Chapter 167 - Chapter 169: Angron Retires!

"Everything is normal, except..."

The blue fat cat hesitated under Bruce's scrutinizing stare.

"It's fine. Say it."

Bruce nodded calmly.

At this point, things had already turned out like this. What else was there to say?

After several days of observation and readjustment, Angron's condition could not really be called good. At least, every day, she could wake up for an hour or two before falling asleep again.

However, each time she woke up, her state was rather Schrödinger-like.

Either she was in Angron mode: head empty, thinking only of freedom and struggle, shouting and yelling, looking extremely unintelligent.

Or she was in Second Young Miss mode, lashing out wildly at everything she saw. Several times, Bruce had nearly been crushed to death in one hand. Fortunately, his Astartes body was sturdy enough that he narrowly escaped disaster.

Thankfully, she only made a fuss for a while before falling asleep again. Otherwise, the Remilia really would not have been enough for Angron to tear apart.

"According to the information I've inferred, Angron's soul should be missing a portion, but this advanced doll of mine helped complete part of it."

"Hm?!"

Bruce raised a brow and asked curiously:

"What do you mean, completed part of it?"

"I mean it literally. If Angron's soul was only sixty percent complete at the time, then for the remaining forty percent, the doll would find a way to fill in the gap by itself."

"In other words, the forty percent it filled in was Flandre's?"

"Correct."

The blue fat cat nodded, then added:

"But I need to explain one thing. The current Angron is actually made up of sixty percent Angron's soul and one hundred percent Flandre."

"WTF?!"

When Bruce heard that terrifying news, the corner of his mouth twitched uncontrollably.

So souls could overflow?

That was kind of impressive.

"However, this should be the result Angron chose himself."

The blue fat cat sighed.

"What do you mean, his own choice?"

"Yes. Because the body is his, and the majority of the soul is his. But he did not choose to overwrite Flandre's consciousness."

"What... what does that mean?"

Bruce did not quite understand.

"You'll understand once you see this. I worked hard to extract it from the depths of the soul."

As the blue fat cat spoke, he pressed a button.

Then the screen began playing a scene.

Inside the ruined Scarlet Devil Mansion, Flandre wandered alone through the estate. As she cried, she searched for traces of her family, but no one ever responded to her. In the end, she could only return to the basement and sink back into sleep.

Bruce watched this same sequence more than ten times. Every time Flandre woke up, she tried to find someone, but she never found anyone.

"...?"

Bruce frowned in confusion and looked at the blue fat cat.

"Let me make this clear first. These scenes aren't looping. This is what Flandre experienced every day."

The blue fat cat hurriedly explained.

"Then what does this have to do with Angron?"

Bruce raised an objection.

Although the Flandre in the recording did look rather heartbreaking, and no one knew what had happened to the Scarlet Devil Mansion to make it suddenly so empty, that was one matter and this was another.

What did any of this have to do with Angron?

Surely Angron had not been the villain and slaughtered everyone in the Scarlet Devil Mansion?

If so, then he really would be a complete bastard.

"Just watch. Wait a bit."

The blue fat cat tried to adjust the memory fragment, letting the scene skip forward.

Finally, the repeated image changed.

One day, while Flandre was once again searching for traces of her sister, a sudden rift appeared. Angron stumbled out while strangling a daemon.

Countless daemons surged madly through the rift before it could close. Angron, his soul body incomplete, fought those daemons while protecting Flandre.

"Wait... why did Angron show up in the Scarlet Devil Mansion?!"

Bruce pointed at the contents on the screen and asked the blue fat cat.

"He was probably accidentally sent to another world while the doll was being shaped. But that isn't the important part."

As he spoke, Bruce saw the innocent-looking Flandre reach out and crush Angron.

"!?"

So ruthless!

Fortunately, Angron was tough enough. He did not die, but recovered from his heavy injuries.

Seeing that Angron was so interesting, Flandre "played" with Angron for a while. Although he was crushed several times, miraculously, this great axe king did not do anything to Flandre.

Was this really the Angron Bruce knew?

Why was he so docile?

Perhaps Flandre became tired, or perhaps she realized Angron could not truly be killed. In the end, she gave up, and the two of them had a conversation.

To be precise, Angron was like a big golden retriever. He reached out and stroked Flandre's tear-streaked face, first asking her gently what was wrong, then kneeling down and giving the child a great big hug.

"???"

Bruce stared dumbfounded at this scene.

"This..."

If this wasn't OOC, what was?

How could Lord Angron possibly be this gentle?

If Bruce had not known better, he would have thought this was some kind of horror movie.

Was Angron going to crush Flandre to death in a hug next?

Like squeezing a ketchup bottle?

"Lord Angron was originally this kind of person, wasn't he...?"

The blue fat cat looked at the wildly incongruous giant on the screen and sighed emotionally.

However, the dark scenario Bruce had imagined did not happen.

Under Angron's comfort, Flandre, unusually, did not go mad.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk!"

Bruce shook his head repeatedly as he watched.

Why did they actually start talking?

This was too weird.

Soon, the two fused together, then returned through the rift that had just opened.

Seeing this, Bruce could roughly guess what they had said to one another.

It was probably something similar to a deal. Angron would bring Flandre to the Warhammer world to search for the sister she spoke of.

"Wait..."

Bruce rubbed his chin and thought.

"Then what did Angron get out of this?"

"Don't ask me. I don't know either. I only extracted fragments from his memories and showed them to you."

The blue fat cat had also tried to analyze it, but could only give up.

"He probably just wanted to help this child."

Curze's voice suddenly sounded behind Bruce.

"Hm?!"

Bruce quickly turned around.

Curze and Sevatar were both there. Judging by their appearances, they had probably just finished communicating with Horus and then rushed over without stopping.

"Lord Curze! I've finished everything you asked me to do."

The blue fat cat saluted.

"Good. No problems?"

Curze walked in front of the medical chamber and asked.

"Yes. No problems at all. She can be awakened directly."

"Then leave it to me."

After saying that, Curze released her blood magic.

As overflowing blood filled the entire chamber and was injected inside, the sleeping Flandre began to show movement. First her fingers twitched, then her eyes.

After a while, a phantom emerged from her body. Everyone focused their eyes, and only after discovering it was Angron did they finally lower their guard.

This showed that Flandre's body had not been corrupted or invaded by the Warp. Once Chaos was involved, Angron could not possibly still exist, let alone be this intact.

"Angron, are you all right?"

Curze greeted her brother.

"I'm fine..."

Angron's voice was somewhat weak.

"Those things stole too much of my essence and soul."

"Oh? Then can you still keep fighting? Can you take back everything you lost?"

"It doesn't matter anymore."

Angron shook his head.

"I'm tired. I'm no longer interested in those things. But if I can still help a child who needs help, then I believe all of this is worth it."

"Then what do you mean to do?"

Curze roughly understood what Angron wanted, but she wanted to confirm it once more.

"The Great Crusade, the Legion—I choose to give all of it up. I will practice my freedom in another way."

"But are you not handing all this pressure to a child? Is that not too much?"

Curze reminded him.

"No. She is Flandre, not Angron. Even that slave master cannot force the goal of the Great Crusade onto her."

"This outcome is good for everyone."

"I gained freedom, and she met you."

"..."

Curze fell silent.

"Do not pity me, my brother. This is my choice."

Angron's tone was very calm.

"After the Butcher's Nails were implanted in me, I murdered countless people. This time, I helped someone while fully conscious. I am very happy."

"Redemption? You're satisfied that easily?"

Curze mocked him.

"Brother, just as you have always been driven by visions and prophecies, for me, being able to think calmly now, without pain, makes every second I exist a kind of enjoyment."

"I do not want to stain myself with blood anymore, whether it belongs to enemies or my own people. I only want to quietly stay alone."

"I hope all of you can be happy."

Angron spoke with deep feeling.

"I understand..."

After understanding Angron's sincere feelings, Curze no longer intended to persuade him.

"Then what about your Legion? What about your sons? What are they supposed to do?"

Bruce could not help but cut in.

To cast responsibility aside so lightly and then wash his hands of everything—wasn't that far too scummy?

"You know this. All of those were forced onto me by Father. Even if they love me, I... have never liked them."

"Aren't you afraid your soul will gradually disappear? That you'll be completely occupied?"

Bruce asked again.

"That is fine too..."

Angron pondered.

"Perhaps that is also a form of release."

"Then what about your comrades?"

Bruce refused to believe there was nothing in this world that could move this stubborn bastard.

No wonder Khorne hammered the Nails back into your head back then!

Of course, Bruce also knew that was merely rumor distorted through retelling. But in a certain sense, Angron really was an extremely awkward person.

Sigh!

Did the Emperor's sons not have a single normal person among them?

"They promised me that they would protect this child, then continue resisting."

Angron answered calmly.

As he spoke, Angron's figure gradually faded.

Before leaving, he made one request of Bruce:

"If you do not mind, then I will entrust my Legion to you, Acting Commander Bruce."

"?!"

Bruce had just wanted to call out to Angron, only to discover that he had already vanished.

A moment later, Flandre, inside the chamber, opened both eyes.

She first looked around her surroundings curiously. After confirming the situation—

She revealed a broken smile.
