Chapter 35 - work miracles / bring the dying back to life

The patient's heart rate plummeted, dropping to twenty in the blink of an eye.

The situation was beyond critical.

Bai Bing acted decisively, barking orders at the specialist:

"Inject epinephrine immediately!

Prepare the ventilator — increase oxygen flow!

Get the pacemaker ready, now!"

Beep — Beep —

Before she could finish, the heart monitor flatlined.

The patient had suffered cardiac arrest.

"Director Bai, the patient is gone. We should notify the family," the specialist said.

Bai Bing froze for a moment, then snapped back to her senses.

"Do as I said! There might still be a chance!"

The specialist sighed. He had seen countless cases like this. He knew nothing they did now could bring the patient back. Still, he followed Bai Bing's orders.

Just as he expected —

after a full round of resuscitation efforts, the patient showed no response at all.

"How could this happen?" Bai Bing's face paled. She had come hoping to save the patient, only for things to take this turn the second she arrived. Overwhelmed with guilt, she whispered: "If I'd gotten here sooner… maybe it would've been different. Why didn't I come earlier?"

The specialist tried to comfort her. "Director Bai, this isn't your fault. We did everything we could."

We did everything we could…

When a doctor spoke those words, it meant a living life was slipping away.

The phrase felt like a curse. Families feared hearing it most of all — and so did Bai Bing.

Still, as surgical director, she quickly regained her composure and calmly instructed:

"Prepare to inform the patient's family."

"Yes." The specialist turned toward the door.

Just then, the ward door slammed open.

A figure rushed toward the bed. By the time the specialist reacted, he saw a young man inserting silver needles into the patient's head.

It was Ye Qiu.

"Ye Qiu! What are you doing?!" Bai Bing shouted.

"He's not dead. He can still be saved."

Ye Qiu pulled another needle from his pocket and stabbed it into the patient's glabella without sterilizing it first.

The specialist recognized Ye Qiu and snapped in anger:

"Ye Qiu, do you have any idea what you're doing? This is desecrating a corpse! Stop at once! If the family sees this, you'll be in huge trouble!"

"Quit fooling around. He's already dead," Bai Bing reached for Ye Qiu, but he didn't budge.

"He's not dead. He can still be saved," Ye Qiu repeated, continuing to apply the needles.

The specialist's face darkened.

"What's that supposed to mean, Ye Qiu?!

Are you saying my diagnosis is wrong?

Or that all this medical equipment is just for show?

If you want to show off, at least pick the right place! This is ridiculous!"

"Stop, Ye Qiu. The deceased must be respected," Bai Bing pleaded.

She too had desperately wanted to save the patient, but he was gone. Anything now was pointless.

Worse, if the family saw Ye Qiu handling the body like this, they would demand accountability. It wouldn't just be Ye Qiu's problem — the entire department would be implicated.

Desecrating a corpse was not only a serious violation of hospital rules but also a crime. If the family pressed charges, Ye Qiu could even face jail time.

Yet Ye Qiu acted as if he hadn't heard her, continuing his treatment.

"Ye Qiu, let it go!

The dead cannot return to life. This won't change anything!"

"Ye Qiu…

Are you even listening to me?!"

Bai Bing kept pleading, but he ignored her completely. In her frustration, she slapped him.

Crack!

A bright red handprint appeared on Ye Qiu's cheek.

His body trembled slightly from the pain, but he did not stop treating the patient.

After inserting more than a dozen needles across the patient's body, he sharply pressed his finger to the patient's Baihui acupoint on the top of his head.

About ten seconds passed.

Ye Qiu shouted:

"Wake up!"

Pfft —

Suddenly, the patient's body jolted. His chest heaved, and he spat out a mouthful of black blood.

"Quick! Resuscitate the patient!" Ye Qiu urged.

The specialist was dumbfounded.

He never imagined the patient he had just pronounced dead was coming back to life.

What was happening?

Though he had countless questions, saving the patient came first. Without pausing to ask Ye Qiu, he led the medical team in urgent resuscitation.

Bai Bing stared in disbelief for a moment, then an uncontrollable excitement spread across her usually cold face. She shot a deep glance at Ye Qiu and joined in the rescue.

...

In the executive vice president's office.

Zhang Lili reported her latest findings to Guo Danu.

"What? Ye Qiu revived a patient who was pronounced dead? That's impossible!"

Guo Danu didn't believe her for a second, thinking she was lying. He stared at her sternly and said coldly:

"I hate nothing more than being lied to in my life."

"Dean Guo, I'm telling the truth! If you don't believe me, call the surgery department and ask them yourself!"

Seeing how confident she was, Guo Danu grew suspicious. Could it actually be true?

But how could a dead patient come back to life?

Something was very wrong here.

"How good is Ye Qiu's medical skill?" Guo Danu asked.

"Not good at all. He's just an inexperienced rookie," Zhang Lili replied.

"Inexperienced, and he revived a dead patient?" Guo Danu didn't buy it.

"He only just graduated. How much experience could he have?" Zhang Lili said irritably. "I don't know what's gotten into him lately. He used to be weak and timid, but now he's ridiculously strong and arrogant, acting like he's better than everyone."

"Enough about Ye Qiu. Tell me about Shaocong." Guo Danu demanded. "I told you to find him. Did you?"

"N… Not yet."

At the mention of Guo Shaocong, Zhang Lili grew nervous. She had tried everything, but Guo Shaocong had vanished without a trace.

Guo Danu snapped at her angrily:

"What is wrong with you? You can't even keep track of your own boyfriend? Useless!"

Zhang Lili felt deeply wronged, tears welling up in her eyes.

Just then, the phone on the desk rang sharply.
