Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A Complex Shikai

In the underground space of Urahara Shop, Tsuna arrived as usual to train his Shikai.

Many days had already passed like this.

And his opponent had never changed—

Yoruichi Shihōin.

"Kid, I've been waiting for you. Let's see what new tricks you've got today!" Yoruichi said through gritted teeth.

The reason she agreed to be Tsuna's training partner was simple—she had taken a strong interest in his Sun Attribute gloves.

At the beginning, Tsuna was no match for her. But the moment Yoruichi let her guard down, Tsuna switched to the X-Gloves and landed a solid hit.

That was where their grudge began.

After that, Yoruichi gradually adapted to Tsuna's combat style of constantly switching between different Shikai forms.

And just when she got used to it—

Tsuna would pull out a new ability and regain the advantage.

It left her thoroughly irritated.

As a veteran Shinigami, she should have been easily schooling a newcomer—

yet she kept getting outplayed.

And today—

was the day Tsuna would use his final unrevealed Shikai form.

No wonder Yoruichi came in aggressive from the start.

...

"Then I'm starting."

Tsuna spoke calmly and activated his release:

"Ethereal illusion—Kiri! (Mist)"

A long-handled trident appeared in his hand.

Yoruichi immediately analyzed it.

"A mid-range weapon? I'm the worst opponent you could use that against."

The moment she finished speaking—

she vanished and appeared right in front of Tsuna.

Against a close-combat specialist like her, long weapons were at a disadvantage.

She threw a punch—

—but felt nothing.

Her fist passed straight through Tsuna.

Only then did she remember the release phrase.

Mist… illusion.

"Yoruichi-san, your reflexes really are fast."

Tsuna's voice came from behind her.

He swung the trident in a full arc and slammed it into her back, sending her flying.

He deliberately used the shaft, not the blade.

This was training—there was no need to injure her with an illusion-based ambush.

That was also why he had saved the Mist attribute until now.

Yoruichi flipped mid-air and regained her stance.

She could hear the mockery in Tsuna's tone.

He's saying I act without thinking…

Just as she was about to retaliate—

a long blade wrapped in blue flames shot toward her.

Shigure Sōen-ryū, Third Form: Yarazu no Ame. (Last Minute Rain)

She punched the blade aside—

—but at that instant, her movements slowed.

The effect of the Rain Flame—

Tranquility.

Before she could recover—

a barrage of red projectiles came at her.

Tsuna had already switched to the Storm Attribute C.A.I. System.

High-mobility homing missiles.

Infused with both Storm and Sun Flames, they moved at terrifying speed.

Yoruichi clenched her teeth.

This wasn't the first time she'd been hit by this combo.

If this continued, she'd once again be trapped in Tsuna's relentless storm of attacks.

Spiritual pressure erupted around her—

Shunkō!

The moment Tsuna sensed the surge—

he instantly changed the ammunition type.

Purple-red energy beams burst from the launch system, splitting and multiplying mid-air.

This was a fusion of:

Cloud Flame (Propagation)

Storm Flame (Disintegration)

The result?

Endlessly multiplying destructive beams.

Explosions bursting out in succession.

When the smoke cleared—

Yoruichi was gone.

Tsuna wasn't surprised.

If she couldn't dodge that, she wouldn't be the Flash Goddess.

Without even searching for her, Tsuna switched again:

"Strike with thunder—Kaminari! (Lightning)"

A pair of horn-like conductors appeared on his head.

Dense green lightning covered his body.

At that exact moment—

Yoruichi's punch struck the lightning field.

This was the weakness of close-combat fighters.

Tsuna didn't need to find her.

She would always come to him.

And Lightning Flame's property, 'hardening'—made it perfect for defense.

Yoruichi frowned.

That green lightning was extremely troublesome for someone like her who specialized in Hakuda.

Using the moment of impact—

Tsuna created distance.

He didn't follow up with Lightning attacks.

Against Yoruichi, those short-range bursts were useless.

...

He switched again.

Tonfa appeared in his hands.

Tsuna charged forward.

Even though he was slower—

Yoruichi didn't attack.

She stared at the tonfa warily.

Last time, she had been injured by the hidden chain weapon inside them.

She didn't know what else he had hidden.

"What's wrong, Yoruichi-san? Hesitating?"

"Heh, you provoking me punk?"

She rushed in.

Clang!

They clashed.

With Shunkō active, Tsuna was immediately pushed into a disadvantage.

Even in Shikai, he couldn't compete with Yoruichi's Shunkō-enhanced combat, which rivaled Bankai-level opponents.

Yoruichi accelerated.

She had already figured out the strategy.

Overwhelm Tsuna with speed—

Don't give him time to switch forms or speak release commands.

In short, Total domination!

Tsuna realized it too.

That was when the hidden mechanism of the tonfa came into play.

Spikes shot out from the shaft.

Enhanced by Cloud Flame propagation, they extended into long piercing spikes.

Yoruichi's fist met the spikes—

—and instantly withdrew.

A bloody hole appeared on the back of her hand.

Her attack stopped.

"Cunning little brat!" she spat, retreating.

Tsuna seized the opening.

Switch again.

Blade in hand—

He stepped forward and slashed.

Shigure Sōen-ryū, Eighth Form: Shinotsuku Ame! (Pelting Rain)

A powerful slash raised four pillars of water.

Yoruichi still dodged using her flawless Shunpo.

But now...

Distance had been created.

Which meant—she risked facing Tsuna's long-range barrage again.

"Yoruichi, take a break. Time to eat~"

A voice interrupted.

Urahara appeared, holding a bowl of steaming noodles.

"Huh, Kisuke? Why so early today?"

Yoruichi approached, puzzled.

Then—

she noticed something off.

Only one portion of food.

"You… who are you?"

The "Urahara" in front of her grinned.

Then shouted:

"Extreme Sun!"

The disguise vanished.

It was Tsuna—

wearing Sun gear.

A blazing punch shot toward Yoruichi like a miniature sun.

She had no choice but to gather spiritual pressure and meet it head-on.

BOOM!

Dust filled the battlefield.

"You brat… you've gotten even shrewder!" Yoruichi cursed.

Before, Tsuna already had many techniques.

Now with illusions added, he had become unpredictable.

That single illusion earlier...

if she hadn't been cautious...

Would have seriously injured her.

She decided to retreat from the smoke.

But before she could move, a fist came at her.

Instinctively, she blocked.

Only then did she see...

X-Gloves, burning with flames.

Tsuna had used the smoke to close distance.

They clashed in close combat.

Yoruichi was forced to rely purely on experience to defend.

How is this possible…?

This was the first time she had been pressured in Hakuda.

Then she realized,

That Tsuna's eyes were closed.

He had been fighting blindly—navigating entirely by instinct.

That was the Vongola's ability:

Hyper Intuition.

...

As the smoke cleared, Yoruichi regained composure.

With vision restored, Tsuna posed no threat in close combat.

But Tsuna understood that too.

He wouldn't waste the advantage.

He spun with a kick.

Jets of Sky Flame erupted from his hands.

His rotation created violent airflow—waking the battle again.

X-Stream!

The dust gathered once more.

That was it.

Yoruichi stopped holding back.

A massive surge of spiritual pressure exploded outward—instantly blowing away all the dust.

Then—

She punched Tsuna hard. Really hard.

Whoosh!

He was sent flying, crashing through multiple rock formations before finally stopping.

His Shihakushō was torn apart.

Fortunately though,

Yoruichi had pulled her punch at the last moment.

"Isn't that a bit much, Yoruichi-san?" Tsuna protested as he flew back.

They had agreed—

she wouldn't use overwhelming spiritual pressure.

This was supposed to be Shikai training, not a full-force beatdown.

Yoruichi looked slightly embarrassed.

She retorted, "You're the one being too slippery! Your already complex abilities became even worse with illusions added!"

"Go ask around, who the hell has a Zanpakutō with this many abilities?!"

She slapped his shoulder in frustration.

If she had a weapon like that—she wouldn't have needed to develop Shunkō herself.

"Well, the shopkeeper's Zanpakutō also has multiple abilities," Tsuna said casually.

"Depending on the release command, it changes functions."

"…Kisuke doesn't count. His Zanpakutō has been modified who knows how many times—"

Yoruichi suddenly stopped.

She looked at Tsuna with a complicated expression.

Urahara had never told Tsuna about his Zanpakutō.

And Tsuna couldn't have remembered it from his Hollow state.

Which meant only one thing—

This kid already knew Urahara's abilities beforehand.
