I am now a shapeshifter. I used 50 mana to shrink my hair back to its original length, faded my tan, and adjusted my bone structure to hide the extra inch of height. I walked out of the bathroom looking exactly like I did thirty minutes ago.

Michelle was waiting in the kitchen with a coffee. The air was heavy.

She turned beet-red. "Stop! I get it!"
"Then tell me," I stepped closer. "Why can't we date?"
"We're relatives! I'm ten years older! I'm a failed programmer working as a stripper! What would your parents say?!"
"I don't give a damn about public opinion," I said. "My parents will be pissed for a week, then they'll get over it. And as for money? I can provide for both of us. You don't need that job."
"You don't know me!" she yelled, hitting the table.
"Then let's fix that. Isn't that what dating is for?"
I didn't wait for an answer. I grabbed her hand, pulled her flush against my chest, and gripped the back of her head.
"Your answer is YES."
I kissed her, and this time, I didn't let her pull away.
