He spoke sharply:

Alarec didn't answer immediately. He simply looked at him for a moment, as if measuring something inside him, then slowly turned and walked toward the long corridor.

It wasn't an illusion Someone was there… watching him His breathing quickened. Before he could fully process what was happening, the figure disappeared in an instant. The next day, everything felt different As soon as he entered the school, he felt eyes on him. Jacob arrived at the old pier, where nothing could be heard except the waves.
