"Zhu Lu, do not forget your place and your identity."
Since the class redistribution, Dai Huabin had attempted to find Zhu Lu multiple times to explain the circumstances of what had happened, but he was ruthlessly rejected every time. Since then, Dai Huabin had been suppressing his feelings and tolerating her. At this moment, however, the consistently cold and proud youth could no longer restrain the fury in his heart.
Zhu Lu ignored him entirely. Not only did she refuse to leave Feng Piaoling's side, but she actually leaned in a few inches closer to him.
"You..." Dai Huabin abruptly raised his right hand, a powerful white light flickering in his palm.
To some extent, he was the same type of person as Dai Mubai from ten thousand years ago; he had never possessed a good temper. In fact, his temperament was more violent than most. Seeing Zhu Lu dare to defy him so flagrantly, he felt an instantaneous surge of humiliation, as if he were being publicly cuckolded, and he nearly struck out in impulse.
But in that instant, Feng Piaoling stepped in to shield Zhu Lu. His face bore no mask for his ridicule. "What? You want to start something?"
Hiding behind Feng Piaoling, Zhu Lu felt a warmth in her heart and a total sense of security. As she looked back at Dai Huabin, her gaze became even more indifferent, as if she were looking at an incompetent husband.
Nanmen Yun'er similarly offered Dai Huabin no courtesy, letting out a disdainful snort toward him. Ultimately, the boy was nothing more than a loser who had been defeated by their class monitor.
Dai Huabin was so angry his lungs felt ready to burst. Just as he was about to erupt, he was held back by Huo Yuhao. "Brother Bin, there is no point in arguing. The finals this afternoon will settle everything."
Feng Piaoling sneered, "What's this? Has the ungrateful wolf found himself a new master so quickly?"
"What did you say?" Huo Yuhao's eyes also turned a crimson red, his breathing becoming heavy like an ox.
Clearly, without Electrolux and relying solely on a worm, Huo Yuhao's mental fortitude was far more fragile than it had been in the original timeline.
Feng Piaoling teased, "Apologies, apologies. I spoke incorrectly. Let me correct myself: I should say you've returned to your original master's embrace. Huo Yuhao, I saved you back in the Star Dou Forest."
"Yet not long after, you turned against me just to join the Tang Sect. You even repeatedly claimed you would find the people of the White Tiger Duke's Mansion to avenge your mother. Have you forgotten so quickly?"
"Now that this half-brother of yours has thrown you a bone, you can't wait to return to the clan and recognize your ancestors?"
"Given the circumstances, you shouldn't be called Huo Yuhao anymore. You might as well change your name to Dai Yuhao. Though, I wonder if they'll even bother to acknowledge you."
As soon as these words were uttered, not only was Huo Yuhao stunned, but everyone else present was utterly aghast. Among them, the most shocked was undoubtedly Wang Dong'er.
Dai Huabin was actually Huo Yuhao's half-brother? If that were the case, then what did the various behaviors that occurred during their Martial Soul Fusion process count as?
Incest?
"Yuhao, what is going on? Are you that..." Dai Huabin didn't even care about Zhu Lu's perceived betrayal anymore. His pupils shrank as he suddenly realized something.
Memories that had once been trivial to him—memories that had blurred with the passage of time—suddenly surged back into his mind. If Huo Yuhao truly was his half-brother, did that mean that person's mother—the "vixen" who had seduced his father and died—had been bullied to death by him, his mother, and their servants?
In that moment, Dai Huabin felt as if his world were collapsing. With great difficulty, he had finally met a like-minded friend. The two of them had formed a Martial Soul Fusion skill. He had even developed a unique affection for this friend. These two things combined should have brought happiness.
But why? Why was Huo Yuhao the "wild seed" born of the woman who climbed into his father's bed? Why had he let the servants be so heavy-handed with that woman back then?
"Brother Bin, I..." Huo Yuhao hesitated, wanting to speak but stopping himself.
Seeing this, Dai Huabin knew that everything Feng Piaoling said was the truth.
"No, this isn't real... it's not real..."
Muttering to himself, Dai Huabin began to run away frantically. This scene looked exactly like a tragic drama where one discovers their beloved is actually the child of their mother's killer, or that they are siblings, and flees from the shock.
"Are you satisfied now? Are you happy? Are you proud of yourself, Feng Piaoling? Just you wait."
Huo Yuhao didn't have the time to argue further. After dropping a harsh parting word, he turned and chased after Dai Huabin.
Watching the retreating backs of the two brothers, the onlookers felt an inexplicable sense of awkwardness.
Nanmen Yun'er leaned toward Feng Piaoling's ear and whispered, "Monitor, are those two crazy?"
"Yes, and it looks like a severe case," Feng Piaoling nodded.
At that moment, Wang Dong'er spoke up. She walked over to Feng Piaoling and asked, "What exactly is the story here?"
Nanmen Yun'er and Zhu Lu also looked over curiously. Feng Piaoling recounted the story of how he met Huo Yuhao, mixing truth with fiction:
"What else could it be? Essentially, Huo Yuhao—or rather, Dai Yuhao—was an illegitimate son born to a maid in the White Tiger Duke's Mansion. Either the White Tiger Duke was a lecher, or the maid wanted to climb the social ladder; either way, they had a relationship and produced Dai Yuhao."
"Soon after, the White Tiger Duke went off to war. The maid was bullied in every possible way by the Duke's legal wife—Dai Huabin's mother—and Dai Huabin himself. She was eventually tormented to death. Afterward, Dai Yuhao ran away from home and changed his name to Huo Yuhao, seeking revenge for his mother."
"He happened to meet me on his way to the Star Dou Forest. Seeing that he was pitiful and penniless, I looked after him the whole way. Back then, he kept calling me 'Big Brother Feng Piaoling' this and 'Big Brother Feng Piaoling' that."
"But then we met people from the Tang Sect. He immediately changed his tune and started calling me just 'Feng Piaoling.' The Tang Sect invited us both to join; I refused, but Huo Yuhao joined. The Tang Sect felt my refusal was an insult to their ancestors, and to show his loyalty to them, Huo Yuhao broke off all ties with me. He kept insisting he wasn't an ungrateful wolf and that he wanted revenge against the Duke's Mansion. Yet, while clearly knowing Dai Huabin is his mother's killer, he's mixed himself up with him and turned back into Dai Yuhao."
After hearing Feng Piaoling's explanation, the three girls were left speechless.
What kind of mess was this? His mother was killed by his half-brother and the brother's mother, and he claimed to want revenge, only to turn around and get cozy with said brother. Furthermore, their relationship seemed... quite unusual. Intimately so.
Wang Dong'er rolled her eyes. "No wonder you call him an ungrateful wolf."
Thinking back to Huo Yuhao's previous pitiful appearance, she felt annoyed that her initial kind-hearted impression of him had been so misplaced. So he was just a guy who would "pick up the bowl to eat and put down the bowl to curse the cook."
Nanmen Yun'er nodded in deep agreement. "Definitely an ungrateful wolf. First it was you, then the Tang Sect, and now at Shrek, he's mixed up with Dai Huabin, the person who killed his mother. Truly, he'll call anyone 'mother' as long as they have milk."
