The air inside the room felt heavier than it should have been.
Sara stood near the window, her fingers lightly touching the cold glass as she stared into the endless darkness outside. The city lights flickered far below, but tonight, they brought her no comfort.
Something was wrong.
She could feel it.
Behind her, the men stood in silence watching, waiting, calculating. None of them spoke, but Sara had learned long ago that silence could be louder than words.
And tonight… it was deafening.
"I know one of you is lying."
Her voice was calm, controlled… dangerous.
No one moved.
No one answered.
But she saw it the slight shift in posture, the almost invisible tension in their shoulders. Fear. Guilt. Or both.
Alexander stepped forward, his expression unreadable as always.
"You're letting your emotions control you," he said quietly.
Sara turned slowly, her eyes locking onto his.
"Am I?" she whispered.
There was something in her gaze tonight something darker than before.
Something that even Alexander couldn't ignore.
"Or maybe," she continued, taking a step closer, "I'm finally starting to see the truth."
A heavy silence fell between them.
The others exchanged brief glances, but no one dared to interfere.
Not when Sara looked like this.
Not when she was this close to breaking.
Or worse… discovering everything.
"Say it," she challenged him. "Look me in the eyes and tell me you're not hiding something."
For the first time… Alexander hesitated.
Just for a second.
But that second was enough.
Sara saw it.
And once seen… it couldn't be ignored.
Her heart didn't break.
It hardened.
"Interesting," she murmured, a cold smile forming on her lips.
"I trusted you."
The words were soft… but they carried weight.
Danger.
Finality.
"You still can," Alexander replied, his voice lower now.
But something had changed.
Something fragile between them… had cracked.
Sara shook her head slowly.
"No," she said. "Not anymore."
The room felt colder.
Sharper.
Like something invisible had just shattered and no one knew how to fix it.
From the shadows, one of the men finally spoke.
"You're focusing on the wrong enemy."
Sara's eyes snapped toward him.
"Oh?" she said, her tone dangerously calm. "Then enlighten me."
A pause.
A mistake.
Because in that pause… everything shifted.
"He wasn't the one who gave the order."
The words fell like a blade.
Sharp.
Precise.
Deadly.
Sara froze.
"…What?"
Her voice was barely audible now.
But the damage was already done.
"There's someone else," the man continued. "Someone higher."
The world around her seemed to tilt.
All this time…
All the blood.
All the revenge.
Was it built on a lie?
Sara took a step back, her breathing uneven now but her eyes… her eyes burned brighter than ever.
"Who?" she demanded.
No one answered.
Not immediately.
And that silence…
That silence said everything.
Sara let out a quiet, humorless laugh.
"Of course," she whispered.
"Of course it's never that simple."
Her gaze slowly returned to Alexander.
"And you knew."
It wasn't a question.
It was a verdict.
Alexander didn't deny it.
And that… was the real betrayal.
Something inside Sara shifted completely.
Not pain.
Not sadness.
Something colder.
More dangerous.
"Good," she said softly.
"If there's someone else…"
Her lips curved into a faint, chilling smile.
"Then I'll just have to destroy them too."
The war… had just begun.
