Chapter 20 - The Truth About Elena

The truth didn't come all at once. It unfolded slowly, like a thread being pulled loose from an intricate tapestry.

Liza found it buried in fragments—emails half-deleted, meetings disguised as coincidences, and finally… a name that appeared too often to ignore.

Elena.

The realization hit like ice in her veins.

She stood in Julian's study, the glow of the desk lamp casting long shadows as she stared at the evidence before her. Elena wasn't just a rival. She was part of something bigger—something designed to dismantle everything Julian had built.

And now… Liza was part of that plan.

The door opened quietly behind her.

"You found it," Julian said.

She turned, her expression a mixture of anger and something far more fragile. "You knew."

His silence was answer enough.

"She's trying to destroy you," Liza said, stepping closer. "And you let her stay. You let her come into this house—into our lives."

Julian's gaze sharpened. "Because sometimes," he said, voice low, "you don't eliminate a threat. You let it reveal itself."

"And what about me?" she asked, her voice breaking slightly. "Was I just part of the trap too?"

He stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the heat of him, the quiet intensity that always unraveled her composure.

"You were never part of the trap," he said softly. "You were the variable."

Her breath hitched.

"The one thing they couldn't predict," he continued, his hand lifting to tilt her chin upward. "The one thing I couldn't control."

The words sent a shiver through her—not fear, but something deeper.

"You have a choice now," he said, his voice dropping further. "Walk away, protect yourself… or stay, and stand with me."

Liza searched his face, looking for certainty, for reassurance. Instead, she found something far more dangerous—truth.

And desire.

"I stay," she whispered.

His fingers tightened slightly against her jaw, not enough to hurt—just enough to remind her of the weight of that choice.

"Then understand this," he murmured, leaning closer, his voice brushing against her like a promise. "If you stay… there's no leaving again."

Her heart pounded.

"I know," she breathed.

And for the first time, she meant it completely.
