Chapter 15 - The Forgotten Flow (Day 1 pt2)

Theo's POV

After we left the training room, the others went their separate ways.

Sera to plan.

Dain—probably to train alone.

Bran didn't say anything, just nodded and walked off.

Luna hesitated for a moment before quietly leaving.

And me—

I didn't go back to the dorm.

I went somewhere else.

The academy library.

It was quieter than usual.

Most students were still training or preparing for the upcoming gate.

Good.

That meant fewer distractions.

I walked between the tall shelves, eyes scanning titles quickly.

Magic theory.

Combat applications.

Elemental studies.

None of it was what I was looking for.

Too basic.

Too general.

I moved deeper.

Toward the older section.

The part of the library most students ignored.

Dust lined the shelves.

Books worn with age.

Some barely touched.

Perfect.

I stopped when something caught my eye.

A thin, faded book.

The title almost unreadable.

"Advanced Water Magic Formations"

I pulled it out slowly.

Dust fell from the cover.

Formations…

I hadn't seen much about that before.

Most elements focused on power.

Speed.

Destruction.

But water…

Was different.

I sat down at one of the empty tables and opened the book.

The pages were old.

Fragile.

But the contents—

Interesting.

"Water magic is the most adaptable of all elemental affinities."

"Unlike fire or lightning, it does not rely on force alone."

"Its true strength lies in its ability to change, to flow, and to take form."

I read carefully.

Every word.

"Because of this adaptability, water magic does not follow fixed rules like other elements."

"It can reshape itself endlessly—meaning its user is not limited to predefined techniques."

My eyes narrowed slightly.

"Water mages are capable of creating their own formation circles."

I paused.

Create… my own?

I turned the page slowly.

More diagrams appeared.

Circles.

Patterns.

Symbols.

"Unlike rigid elemental circles used by other affinities, water-based formations are fluid."

"They can be altered, reshaped, and even created in real-time during combat."

That was—

Unheard of.

Most magic circles required:

Preparation.

Precision.

Time.

But this—

Was adaptable.

I leaned forward slightly.

More focused now.

"A skilled water mage does not memorize formations."

"They design them."

A faint tension built in my chest.

"Each formation reflects the user's understanding."

"Control defines structure."

"Imagination defines function."

I looked down at my hand.

Water formed slowly above my palm.

Unstable.

But present.

If that's true…

Then I wasn't limited to what was written in the book.

I could—

Create something new.

I turned the page again.

A diagram appeared.

Simple.

Structured.

"Beginner Formation: Flow Circle"

"Purpose: Stabilizes water magic and reduces mana loss."

A starting point.

I closed my eyes briefly.

Then raised my hand slightly.

Water gathered again.

This time—

I didn't force it.

Didn't compress it.

I guided it.

Thin streams extended outward.

Forming a faint circular shape.

Incomplete.

Shaking.

I focused.

Remembering the diagram.

But also—

Adjusting it.

Slightly.

If water is adaptable…

Then the circle didn't have to be exact.

It just had to—

Flow.

The shape shifted slightly.

More natural.

Less rigid.

The moment it formed—

Something changed.

The water stabilized.

The trembling reduced.

The flow became smoother.

My eyes opened.

"…It worked."

Not perfectly.

The circle flickered.

Then—

Collapsed.

Water scattered and disappeared.

I exhaled slowly.

"…Still incomplete."

But—

Different.

Better.

I looked back at the book.

Then at my hand.

I can change it.

Adjust it.

Make it my own.

That was the difference.

Other elements followed rules.

Water—

Created them.

I raised my hand again.

Water formed.

More stable this time.

I began shaping another circle.

Not exactly like the book.

Slightly altered.

Smoother edges.

Different flow.

It wavered.

But didn't collapse immediately.

A faint glow formed.

Weak.

But present.

"…So this is how it works."

Not memorization.

Understanding.

I closed my hand slowly, letting the water fade.

If I could master this—

Then my magic wouldn't just improve.

It would evolve.

Because I wouldn't just be using water magic.

I'd be creating it.

Outside, the academy continued preparing for the gate.

Students trained.

Teams planned.

Strategies formed.

But here—

Something else had begun.

A different kind of power.

One no one else had noticed yet.

I stood up, holding the book.

"…I'll finish this."

Because this—

Was my path forward.
