Around nine in the evening, Feng Tingshen and his daughter returned.
Feng Jingxin clutched the hem of Feng Tingshen's jacket, her movements slow as she climbed out of the car. Because her mother was there, she hadn't actually wanted to come home at all tonight.
However, Auntie Wuwu had said her mother had come specifically to spend time with her and her father, and that if they didn't return, her mother would be heartbroken. Her father had also mentioned that if they didn't come back tonight, her mother would surely insist on joining them when they went out to sea tomorrow.
Left with no choice, she had agreed to come back.
Still, she remained worried, muttering gloomily, "Dad, what if Mom tries to pester us to let her come out with us tomorrow?"
"She won't," Feng Tingshen replied, his tone certain.
In all their years of marriage, Rong Ci had always tried every means possible to find opportunities to spend more time with him. However, she was sensible enough; as long as he made his stance clear, she wouldn't dare provoke his displeasure.
In Feng Jingxin's memory, Rong Ci had always been very obedient to Feng Tingshen. Since he said she wouldn't, then she definitely wouldn't.
Feng Jingxin finally felt at ease. Her mood brightened, and discarding her previous irritation, she skipped through the door and told Auntie Liu that she wanted to take a bath.
"Yes, of course," Auntie Liu answered repeatedly. Remembering Rong Ci's instructions, she handed an envelope to Feng Tingshen. "Sir, the Mistress asked me to give this to you."
Feng Tingshen took it and asked casually, "Where is she?"
"This... the Mistress packed her things and returned home at noon. Did you not know, Sir?"
Feng Tingshen paused mid-step while heading upstairs, turning his head back. "She went back?"
"Yes."
Feng Tingshen hadn't given Rong Ci a chance to explain why she had suddenly come to Country A. He didn't care. Now that he knew she had left, he didn't give it a second thought.
Feng Jingxin was also a bit surprised. Upon hearing the news, a small sense of loss flickered in her heart. She had been thinking that if her mother didn't tag along on their trip tomorrow,
it actually would have been quite nice to have her mother with her tonight. Besides, her hands always hurt when she polished seashells; she had wanted her mother to help her finish them!
Feng Tingshen and Rong Ci had not seen each other for months. Rong Ci had managed to come all this way only to not even catch a glimpse of him. Recalling how Rong Ci looked when she left, Auntie Liu couldn't help but remind him, "Sir, the Mistress's expression wasn't quite right when she left. She seemed angry."
Auntie Liu had originally thought Rong Ci was in a rush to return home because of some urgent matter. Now that she realized Feng Tingshen had no idea she was leaving, she sensed that something was wrong.
Angry?
In front of him, Rong Ci was always the picture of good-tempered tolerance. So, she could actually get angry? That was certainly a novelty.
Feng Tingshen smiled dismissively, gave Auntie Liu a perfunctory reply, and went upstairs.
Back in his room, just as he was about to open the letter Rong Ci had left him, Lin Wu called. Feng Tingshen answered the phone, tossed the envelope aside, and turned to leave the house.
A moment later, the envelope slid from the edge of the bed and fell to the floor.
Feng Tingshen did not return that night.
The next day, when Auntie Liu came up to clean, she saw the envelope on the floor and recognized it as the one Rong Ci had asked her to deliver. Thinking Feng Tingshen had already read it, she simply picked it up and placed it in a nearby cabinet.
After Rong Ci got off the plane, she went straight upstairs to pack her bags as soon as she reached home.
After all, six years had passed, and the house was filled with quite a lot of her belongings. Yet, she only took a few outfits, two sets of daily necessities, and some of her professional books.
After they married, Feng Tingshen had provided her and their daughter with a monthly living allowance. The money was deposited into two separate cards one for her and one for their daughter.
However, Rong Ci was accustomed to using her own card for her daily expenses. She had never touched her daughter's card from the very beginning. Furthermore, because she loved Feng Tingshen, every time she went shopping and saw clothes, shoes, cufflinks, or ties that suited him, she couldn't resist buying them for him.
As for herself, her daily expenses were low due to her work. Her heart and eyes were full of nothing but her husband and daughter, and she wanted to give them the very best. Consequently, she had spent the vast majority of the allowance Feng Tingshen gave her on the two of them.
Under those circumstances, there shouldn't have been much money left in the card. However, over the past year or so, since her daughter had basically lived with Feng Tingshen in Country A, her opportunities to buy things for them had decreased significantly.
There was now over thirty million yuan left in the account. To Feng Tingshen, this was a drop in the bucket, but to her, it was no small sum. Since the money belonged to her anyway, Rong Ci didn't act pretentious and transferred the funds out.
Leaving the two cards behind, she dragged her luggage and left without looking back.
She owned an apartment not far from the company where she worked. It wasn't large, just over a hundred square meters. She had bought it four years ago to help out a friend who had run away from home and needed to meet a sales quota; she had never lived in it before. Now, it would finally serve a purpose.
The apartment had been cleaned regularly by someone she hired, so it wasn't dirty. A quick tidy-up was all it needed for her to move in.
Exhausted after a long day, Rong Ci washed up and went to her room to rest around ten in the evening.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
The piercing sound of the alarm startled Rong Ci awake from her dream. Waking so abruptly left her mind blank for a moment. Once her thoughts cleared, she suddenly remembered that it was one in the morning here, which meant it was after seven in the morning where Feng Tingshen and her daughter were in Country A.
Feng Tingshen and their daughter usually ate breakfast at this time. Ever since her daughter had followed Feng Tingshen to Country A, she would typically call her at this hour.
Because she worked hard during the day and usually went to bed early, she had set this alarm to ensure she wouldn't miss the time to talk to her daughter.
Initially, when her daughter first moved to Country A, she wasn't used to it and missed her mother terribly, wanting to call her constantly. But as the time spent in Country A stretched on, the girl's attachment and longing had turned into perfunctory responses and impatience.
There was actually no longer any need for this alarm. She simply couldn't bear to let go.
Thinking of this, Rong Ci gave a bitter smile. After a moment of hesitation, she deleted the alarm, turned off her phone, and went back to sleep.
On the other side of the world, Feng Tingshen and Feng Jingxin were almost finished with breakfast.
Although Feng Tingshen knew that Rong Ci basically called their daughter every day at this time, he wasn't always home and didn't pay much attention to it. He noticed that Rong Ci hadn't called today, but he didn't care. After finishing his breakfast, he went upstairs to change.
Feng Jingxin felt that Rong Ci was becoming increasingly nagging and liked chatting on the phone with her less and less. Seeing that Rong Ci hadn't called yet even though it was so late, she assumed her mother must have been delayed by something.
Her dark eyes darted around as she grabbed her schoolbag and ran for the door.
Seeing this, Auntie Liu hurried after her. "Miss, it's still early. You'll still make it even if you leave a bit later!"
Feng Jingxin didn't listen, happily scrambling into the car.
She had to be joking. It was a rare occasion that her mother had been busy and hadn't called on time. If she didn't leave now, she'd have to chat with her mother if the call came in a few minutes, and she definitely didn't want that!
After her marriage, Rong Ci had started working at the Feng Group. She had entered the company solely for Feng Tingshen's sake.
Now that they were getting a divorce, she no longer had a reason to stay.
The next morning, upon arriving at the office, Rong Ci handed her resignation letter to Jiang Zhe.
