The other three maids gasped loudly and jumped backward, pressing themselves against the stone wall. They stared at Camilla in absolute horror.
Camilla stood perfectly still. Her dark red dress had barely moved. She slowly lowered her right hand to her side. She looked at the staggering maid. Camilla's eyes were completely dead, cold, and utterly empty of any human emotion. She looked at the girl like she was looking at a piece of garbage.
"Is this what Mrs. Ida taught you to do?"
Camilla spoke. Her voice was not loud, but it was freezing cold. It sounded like ice cracking over a deep, dark lake. "Do you just stand in the hallways and spread filthy lies about your masters?"
Camilla took one slow step forward. The bold maid flinched and took a step back.
"Do you not have any respect for the Lady of the house?" Camilla asked, her voice dropping into a deadly, quiet whisper.
