The heavy silence hanging over the dusty military field was completely thick. Everyone stared at the giant, fallen mercenary and the slim, black-clad figure standing perfectly still above him. The shock of the incredibly fast death match had paralyzed the entire massive crowd.
Up on the raised wooden platform, Damon stared intently at the anonymous fighter. His eyes carefully watched the way the fighter wiped the bloody dagger and sheathed it smoothly.
Suddenly, the sound of fast boots running up the wooden stairs broke Damon's intense focus.
Kade rushed back onto the platform. He had just returned from sending a fast messenger to check the mansion, and he looked completely out of breath.
Kade walked quickly to Damon's side. He leaned in very close, hiding his mouth behind his hand so General Howe could not see him speaking.
Kade whispered urgently to Damon.
