"What? You want me to go to Itogami Island to monitor the Fourth Primogenitor!"
The news was so shocking that the girl's voice rose several pitches.
"I'm not telling you to go. It's your choice whether you want to take the mission."
The calm voice from the phone barely managed to steady Sayaka Kirasaka.
"My choice… um, Master, I don't think my strength is enough for a mission like monitoring the Fourth Primogenitor. Please find someone else."
Sayaka Kirasaka was not being modest. After all, what qualifications did she, an ordinary Shamanic War Dancer, have to monitor the Fourth Primogenitor?
No, to be precise, even if the Three Saints themselves went to monitor the Fourth Primogenitor, they would probably be wiped out instantly by one of the Fourth Primogenitor's Beast Vassals.
The Primogenitors had already proven with absolute facts that the vampire Primogenitors of World No.2 were on a completely different level from everyone else in that world. In the entirety of World No.2, only three… or perhaps four Primogenitors possessed SSS level combat power, ranking within the world's top fifteen. Everyone else reaching S+ would already be considered exceptional.
Sending her to monitor the legendary Fourth Primogenitor was basically asking her to die.
"Alright, I understand. I will suggest to the Three Saints that they choose another candidate for this mission."
"Phew… thank you, Master."
Hearing that response from the calm voice, Sayaka Kirasaka finally relaxed. She did not want to die yet. If she died, she would never see Yukina again, and Yukina would definitely be heartbroken over her death.
"By the way, Master, after I finish this mission I'm planning to return to High God Forest to see Yukina. I want to know how she's doing recently. Is she eating properly? Has anyone been bullying her…"
Now that she knew she would not have to take on such a dangerous mission, Sayaka Kirasaka felt much more relaxed. Since her current assignment was almost finished, she casually asked about her roommate, Yukina Himeragi.
At first, it was just a casual question. After all, with Yukina Himeragi's angelic personality, who could possibly bear to hurt her?
But when the other side remained silent for a long time, Sayaka Kirasaka blinked and immediately realized something was wrong.
"Master, Master, what happened to Yukina? Did something happen to her? Master, say something!"
"She's fine. She's just out on a mission and isn't in High God Forest right now."
"A mission? What mission?"
Sayaka Kirasaka had long been mentally prepared for the fact that Yukina Himeragi would eventually carry out missions assigned by the Lion King Organization.
But if it were just a normal mission, why would her master be so vague about it? Something must have happened to her Yukina.
"What? Yukina went to monitor the Fourth Primogenitor!"
A sharp cry escaped Sayaka Kirasaka's mouth. The phone slipped from her hand and fell onto the bed as her eyes widened and her mouth hung slightly open.
The next second, she snapped out of her daze. She immediately jumped off the bed, grabbed her weapon from the corner of the room, and rushed straight out of the ship.
At the same time, just as Sayaka Kirasaka was hurriedly buying a ticket to Itogami Island, Cid suddenly sat up from his bed.
"Huff… huff… huff…"
Cid sat there drenched in sweat, breathing heavily. His pajamas were completely soaked. Placing a hand on his chest, he could feel his heart beating wildly.
"What… what the hell just happened?"
He sat there for quite a while. Only after his heartbeat gradually returned to its normal rhythm did he finally mutter those words.
It looked as though he had woken up from a nightmare.
In reality, he had indeed been dreaming.
Just not a nightmare.
It was a wet dream.
Because so many things had happened today, and because after nearly ten years in the Library he had almost finished studying its core contents, he had decided to relax for once and get some sleep.
He had expected a deep sleep that would relax his mind and soul.
Instead, he ended up having a wet dream that scared him awake.
"Puberty again?"
After calming down, the first thing Cid suspected was that this had something to do with puberty, the same thing that had recently been bothering him and interfering with his training.
"No, that's impossible. No matter how I think about it, puberty can't explain this."
Cid shook his head and threw that ridiculous idea out of his mind. This clearly could not be explained by puberty.
To put it simply, deep sleep was like diving into the ocean. The deepest part of the seabed represented his inner world.
In other words, when in a state of deep sleep, what he faced directly should have been his own inner self.
If he could still have a wet dream under those circumstances, did that mean his mind was actually full of those kinds of thoughts?
No, that was impossible.
His goal was to become an Eminence in Shadow. Things like lust would only become obstacles on his path.
So there was only one possibility. Something had gone wrong with his body, causing him to wake up before he could reach the deepest part of the ocean.
Deep sleep did not guarantee that someone would always reach the deepest part of their inner self. It only meant that without interference, a person might unconsciously touch their own inner world.
And that interference could come from distracting thoughts, flaws in one's personality, or emotions and desires triggered by outside influences.
These disturbances were like sea monsters lurking in the depths of the ocean, suddenly appearing to attack while someone was diving.
Since a person remained unconscious during deep sleep, they normally could not tell whether what they encountered was the ocean floor itself, their true inner world, or one of those sea monsters, their distracting thoughts, flaws, and desires.
Except for him.
Cid could clearly distinguish whether he had reached the seabed or encountered a sea monster. After all, this was not the first time he had dived into his inner world.
Before tonight's dive, the last time he had entered his inner world should have been…
When was it again?
Cid casually glanced around the room. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed an empty milk can lying in the trash can.
Right. It should have been after Eta brought him milk that he stopped entering deep sleep.
Judging by the fact that he drank one bottle every day, that must have been around eight or nine months ago.
As for why he stopped using deep sleep after Eta started bringing him milk…
The reason was simple.
For some reason, the milk Eta gave him had the effect of improving his concentration. It allowed him to maintain the Triple Magical Power Tempering Technique while also dedicating a small portion of his focus to studying in the Library.
Before that, he needed to enter deep sleep for an hour before every training session. Only after adjusting his condition to its peak could he practice the Triple Magical Power Tempering Technique while simultaneously studying in the Library.
But once he could maintain the Triple Tempering state without entering deep sleep, why bother with it?
Wouldn't it be better to spend that extra hour on training instead?
"I've decided. Tomorrow I'll ask Natsuki-chan for leave and go see Eta. I'll have her check my body."
After examining his soul and spirit multiple times and confirming that there were absolutely no problems there, Cid concluded that the issue must lie with his body.
The mind could influence the body, and the body could also influence the mind.
Of course, he did not think someone had tampered with his body and caused it to affect his mind. He simply suspected that his own reckless experimentation had created some sort of problem.
After all, his body was now immune to magic. Poisoning him was even more absurd.
His biological system was completely different from the existing life forms in the world, and there was only one of its kind. Even if someone wanted to poison him, they would not know how to do it. They would not even know how to create a remedy for such a system.
Of course, nothing in the world was absolute.
His childhood friend Eta, one of the Seven Shadows, was incredibly intelligent. So intelligent that Cid believed if Eta were allowed to examine his body system once, she could probably develop medicine tailored perfectly to it.
Of course, Eta would never harm him.
They were childhood friends and their relationship was extremely close.
There was no way Eta would poison him.
