Chapter 8: The Ancestor's Spark

The victory at the tournament changed everything. No longer was Leo the "disappointment" of the Heart family; he was the boy who turned a floor-cleaner into a titan. However, with that fame came a weight that Leo felt every time he walked the halls of the estate.

"The vault is this way," Adam Heart said, his voice echoing through the subterranean stone corridors beneath the mansion.

For the first time, Leo was being allowed into the Heart Primordial Vault, a place where only the clan head and the heir were permitted. Arthur had entered at eighteen; Leo was entering at fifteen.

They stopped before a massive door forged from Star-Iron, engraved with the image of a titan holding a lightning bolt. Adam placed his hand on a sensor, and the heavy doors groaned open, revealing a chamber filled with the history of a thousand years.

"Every great family has a secret, Leo," Adam said, walking past piles of gold and ancient weapons. "Ours isn't just our bloodline. It's the Ancestor's Spark."

The Forbidden Pedestal

In the center of the vault, floating within a stasis field, was a fragment of a crystal that hummed with a frequency that made Leo's teeth ache. It wasn't just mana; it was ancient mana, from the era before the Great Barrier vanished.

[Item: Heart of the First World (Fragment)]

[Grade: Mythic]

[Description: A remnant of the planet's core before the Catalyst. Contains the 'Seed of Evolution'.]

"Legend says our ancestor didn't just fight the invaders," Adam explained. "He studied them. He realized that the 'System' the world received was just a framework—a set of shackles. This Spark is the key to breaking those shackles."

Leo walked toward the crystal. As he approached, the Pet Encyclopedia in his mind began to vibrate violently, the pages turning so fast they blurred.

[DING!]

[Hidden Evolution Requirement Detected!]

[Species 'Storm-Shell Devourer' can transcend the Silver-Rank limit.]

[Ultimate Path: World-Eater Colossus (Path of the Primordial).]

"I need this, Dad," Leo said, his voice resolute. "This is how I make the Breeder profession more than just a support role."

Adam looked at his son for a long time. He saw the same fire in Leo's eyes that he had seen in the mirrors of his own youth. "Take it. But be warned: the Spark attracts those who hunger for power. Once you integrate it, you will be a beacon for every high-level entity in the Portals."

The Integration

Leo sat cross-legged on the cold vault floor. He summoned Grim. The snail had grown again; its shell was now the size of a shield, matte black and vibrating with the Shadow-Essence from the Grotto.

Leo reached out and touched the floating Spark. The moment his skin made contact, a surge of white-hot energy blasted through his mana circuits.

"AHHHHH!"

[WARNING: Mana Overload!]

[Diverting 90% of Ancestral Energy to Grim...]

Grim retreated into his shell, which began to glow with a blinding, prismatic light. The vault's Star-Iron walls began to groan under the sheer pressure of the evolution.

Leo felt his Skill Mimicry talent evolving. It was no longer just about copying skills from people; it was expanding.

[Talent Evolution: 'Mimicry' -> 'Sovereign's Mirror'.]

Effect: Can now copy 3 permanent skills and 'Record' the genetic traits of defeated beasts for future evolutions.

Inside the light, Grim was changing. The snail-like form was shifting. The shell didn't just grow; it fused with the body. Four thick, obsidian-clawned limbs sprouted from beneath the armor. A tail tipped with a lightning-rod spike lashed out. The head emerged, no longer just eye-stalks, but a draconic visage with a crushing beak.

[Evolution Complete!]

[New Species: Primordial Storm-Turtle (Unique/Mythic-Potential)]

[Rank: Silver (Level 21)]

[Passive: World-Shield (Immune to all status effects below Gold-Rank).]

The light died down. Standing before Leo wasn't a snail. It was a beast that looked like it had been carved out of a thundercloud and a mountain. It stood three feet tall and weighed at least two tons, yet it moved with a ghostly lightness.

"Grim?" Leo whispered.

The beast let out a low, resonant rumble that vibrated in Leo's chest. It nudged Leo's hand with its snout, its eyes glowing with deep intelligence.

The First Mission

As they exited the vault, a servant was waiting, looking pale. "Young Master Leo! A message from the Academy Guild! A Rank-4 Portal has opened unexpectedly in the city's residential district. Your friend, Jud Gus, was on a field trip in that sector. He's trapped inside!"

Leo's blood ran cold. A Rank-4 portal was meant for Silver and Gold rank squads. Jud only had a Stone-Toad.

"Dad—" Leo started.

"Go," Adam said, his eyes flashing with pride and seriousness. "The Heart family doesn't leave friends behind. Take your brother's backup squad and—"

"No," Leo said, leaping onto the back of the Primordial Storm-Turtle. "Grim is faster. We'll go alone."

With a crack of lightning, Leo and Grim vanished from the vault entrance, leaving a trail of violet sparks in the air.
