Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 — The Trembling Ground

The jungle ground shook again.

Not a small vibration.

A deep, powerful tremor that made the ancient stones of the ruined structure crack and shift.

Dust fell from the vines hanging above the clearing.

The narcos immediately raised their weapons again.

Pablo Escobar looked around angrily.

"¡¿Qué demonios está pasando aquí?!"

(What the hell is happening here?!)

He turned sharply toward Albert.

"¿Qué estás haciendo en mi territorio?"

(What are you doing in my territory?)

Mateo quickly stepped forward with both hands raised.

"Nada… somos arqueólogos pequeños. Solo estudiamos ruinas antiguas."

(Nothing… we are just small archaeologists studying ancient ruins.)

Escobar's eyes moved toward the body of the narco Mark had shot.

His expression darkened immediately.

"Uno de mis hombres está muerto."

(One of my men is dead.)

Mark stood still, weapon lowered but ready.

Escobar pointed directly at him.

"¿Entonces qué están haciendo aquí?"

(So what exactly are you doing here?)

Albert answered calmly.

"Research."

"Solo investigación."

Escobar stared at him for a long moment.

Then suddenly—

his expression changed.

The anger slowly faded.

And a strange smile appeared.

"Bueno…"

He shrugged slightly.

"Tal vez hoy estoy de buen humor."

(Maybe today I'm in a good mood.)

Albert raised an eyebrow.

Escobar continued.

"Voy a dejar que vivan."

(I will let you live.)

He gestured toward the jungle path behind them.

"Pueden irse."

(You can leave.)

The narcos stepped aside slowly.

But then Escobar added one more sentence.

His voice was cold now.

"Pero recuerden esto…"

(But remember this…)

"Si vuelvo a verlos aquí…"

(If I see you here again…)

He tapped the side of his head.

"Mis hombres pondrán un agujero aquí."

(My men will put a hole right here.)

The message was clear.

Leave.

Now.

Albert nodded slowly.

"Understood."

The team began stepping back toward the jungle trail.

Arun looked nervous.

"Albert… we should leave."

Albert nodded.

"Yes."

But suddenly—

Arun's radio crackled loudly.

Everyone froze.

A voice came through the communicator.

It was Li Wen.

Her voice sounded excited.

Almost shocked.

"Arun!"

Arun grabbed the radio.

"Yes?!"

Li Wen spoke quickly.

"You need to come down here!"

Arun frowned.

"What happened?"

Her voice echoed through the radio.

"There's something incredible in the chamber!"

Albert stopped walking.

Arun looked at him.

Li Wen continued urgently.

"You have to see this."

Albert slowly turned back toward the ancient ruins behind them.

Because if the underground chamber had just activated something powerful enough to shake the entire jungle…

Then whatever Li Wen had discovered—

might be even more dangerous than Escobar's army.
