"Nothing," Sairis said quietly.
He kept his eyes on the desk. Inside his head, the truth was sitting very still and very heavy. He had done what needed to be done.
He had made the choice three days ago, in the infirmary, lying on that bed with Ardent's words still fresh and the reality of everything pressing down on him from all sides.
There was no world where he stayed. There was no world where a pregnant omega carrying the regent's child could remain in this palace without it ending in chains and worse.
Sairis had thought it through from every angle and he had arrived at the same place every time.
Loreen had to marry Candice. And Sairis had to leave.
Speaking to the senior midwife had not been as difficult as he had expected. Sera was a careful and thorough woman but she was also a fair one.
