Loreen's POV
Loreen stood in the corridor for approximately forty seconds.
He knew it was forty seconds because he counted them. The same way he had counted Sairis's pulse in the carriage and his breaths on the steps. Counting was the only thing keeping him on the right side of himself right now and he used it for everything available.
Forty seconds of standing outside a closed door listening to the muffled sounds of Ardent working on the other side of it.
Then he stopped counting because forty seconds was as long as he could manage and he turned to Kaid.
He needed to move. He needed to do something with his hands and his mind and his body because standing in a corridor outside a closed door was going to break him in a way that six weeks of searching had not managed to, and he could feel it building with every second he stood still.
