Chapter 6 - Hydra arc - A shadow

I was looking at that person. Suddenly, he turned back and retreated. I felt curious—I wanted to talk to him. He seemed strong, and maybe he could help us.

They left the bar, and I was still thinking about approaching them.

But before I could say anything, Leo suddenly walked straight toward them and challenged them to a fight.

"Hey, you look pretty strong. Let's fight," Leo said.

"Out of nowhere?" the man replied calmly. "We don't fight without a reason."

His name was Alan.

"You're strong, so you should fight me," Leo insisted.

Before Alan could respond, one of his group members stepped forward.

"Then let's fight," Ozwa said.

Leo immediately agreed. But Ryuk quickly stepped in, apologizing to everyone for Leo's behavior. After that, he turned toward Leo and started shouting.

"You pig, do you even have a brain? All you think about is fighting! Do you even know anything else?" Ryuk shouted.

"Don't shout at him," Alan said calmly. "He might be strong. Strong people always want to fight other strong people. That's not his fault."

After that, Ryuk calmed down.

I stepped out of the bar.

I greeted them and introduced myself, along with Ryuk and Leo.

"We're happy to meet you," Alan said.

"I was surprised how quickly you defeated those thieves. They looked pretty strong," I said.

"Nah, actually, I used a sleeping ritual. That's how I handled them quickly," Alan replied.

"We have a request. Could you help us?" I asked.

"Sure. If we can, we'll definitely help," Alan said.

I explained our situation and asked if they knew about any valuable creatures to hunt.

During the conversation, we learned that Alan and his team were also hunters—a group of hunters.

All of Alan's teammates were his childhood friends.

We got to know all seven members of the group:

1. Alan – Captain (Wind user)

2. Ozwa (Fire user)

3. Kerion (Lightning user)

4. Ema (Ice/Water user)

5. Kari (Plant user)

6. Aon (Light user)

7. Mono (Earth user)

They were all elemental users, each using different types of elemental rituals.

Then Alan told us about a dungeon.

"There's a dungeon nearby where a Hydra boss lives," Alan said. "That monster has three heads. Each head is worth 1500 Reo."

Hearing this, Ryuk was completely shocked.

"What do you mean—1500 Reo each?!"

"Yes. If you want, you can come with us. We're heading there anyway. If you help us defeat the Hydra, we'll give you one head," Alan said.

I, Ryuk, and Leo agreed.

Soon after, we started heading toward the dungeon.

During the journey, Alan asked about our group name. His team was called Elemental Tribal.

"So what's your group name?" he asked.

Ryuk and Leo looked confused, not knowing what to say.

Before they could answer, I spoke.

"Our group name is Dygn Group."

Alan and his team didn't understand the meaning.

They asked about it.

"Actually, I don't know either. It's just a random word," I said.

They accepted it.

Ryuk and Leo quietly asked me when we even decided on a name.

"Dygn is an old English-origin word. It means 24 hours—the beginning and ending at midnight," I told them.

"Then why did you use it for our team name?" they asked.

"I don't know. I just thought it sounded cool," I replied.

"Then why didn't you tell that to Alan?" Ryuk asked.

"I just don't feel like talking too much," I said.

"That's weird," Ryuk muttered.

"It doesn't matter. At least now we can fight a monster," Leo said excitedly.

"Hah… I expected that answer," Ryuk replied.

After a long walk, we finally reached the dungeon.

"So, I guess we should begin our journey," Alan said.

"How long will it take?" I asked.

"A few days, probably," Alan replied.

We entered the dungeon.

Inside, there was a long, massive tunnel.

The moment we stepped in, the dungeon door suddenly shut behind us.

Everything turned dark.

And then—

Leo suddenly screamed in rage.

Ryuk slapped him.

"Are you a dog?" Ryuk said.

"Why did you slap me, idiot?" Leo shouted.

They immediately started fighting in the darkness.

Aon used a light ritual, creating a small sun-like orb that lit up the surroundings.

I stepped in and stopped them.

Alan started laughing.

Then we moved deeper into the tunnel.

After walking for nearly an hour, we saw statues of knights.

Suddenly, Leo stepped on a trap.

The ten knight statues came to life and attacked us.

"Haruto, Ryuk, Leo—rest for now and watch our power," Alan said.

Leo wanted to jump into the fight, but Ryuk stopped him.

Then Alan began.

He used a Winestruck Ritual, manipulating the wind flow around him. The wind intensified, making it impossible for the knight statues to stand properly.

At that moment, I walked up and touched Alan's shoulder for five seconds.

"What are you doing?" Alan asked.

"I'm just observing. I'm not interfering," I replied.

"Alright," he said.

Then Ozwa launched a fireball ritual toward the knights.

I touched him as well.

Ema followed with a water cannon and water sphere, instantly freezing them. Two knights were trapped in ice and shattered into pieces.

While she was casting, I touched her too.

"Hey—why did you touch my back?" Ema asked.

"Nothing," I said and walked away.

I continued doing the same.

Mono used a mud ritual, creating unstable ground, followed by earth pillar and wall rituals for defense.

Ozwa and Kerion used the defense to launch attacks.

Ozwa unleashed a flamethrower, but it couldn't destroy a knight.

Kerion's lightning strike, however, destroyed it instantly.

I touched Ozwa again.

Then I tried to touch Kerion—but he was too fast. I couldn't.

Aon used a light ray ritual, instantly destroying two knights.

At that moment, I realized Aon might be the strongest among them.

Leo got excited and tried to join the fight again.

But Ryuk stopped him.

"Look and learn," he said.

Leo got annoyed and started insulting him.

Ryuk got angry, and they began fighting again.

Then—

The remaining five knights merged into one giant knight.

It was massive. Its sword swings shook the air itself.

It launched a fireball attack.

Mono blocked it with an earth wall.

Alan raised his staff and began casting.

I stood behind him, touching his shoulder again.

He fused a stronger spell into his wind tornado.

The attack hit the giant knight directly.

Kerion followed with a thunder ritual, summoning lightning from above.

The giant knight screamed.

Then it swung its sword, creating a massive explosive slash that targeted everyone—including Ryuk and Leo.

Everyone got injured, especially Aon.

Then—

Kari stepped forward. He had been hidden until now.

He used a healing ritual on everyone.

Then he cast thorny vines, binding the giant knight and buying time.

He enhanced his healing further.

Alan's team regrouped.

The giant knight broke free.

Alan used wind again to disrupt its balance.

Mono used mud, making it fall.

The knight kept attacking repeatedly.

But Mono blocked everything with earth walls.

Ozwa launched a massive fireball, destroying the knight's sword.

Ema froze the knight again.

The knight screamed loudly.

Kari restrained it once more with vines.

Then Alan stepped forward.

He began casting.

Wind gathered into a single point.

A massive wind sphere formed.

"Wind Charge!"

He released it at full power.

The attack struck the knight directly.

It was overwhelming.

I watched silently.

The giant knight was finally defeated.

Alan turned to us.

"Are you guys okay?"

"That final attack was impressive," I said quietly.

"I wanted to fight that thing, but I couldn't because of this rat," Leo complained.

Ryuk got angry again, and they started arguing.

Everyone laughed.

Except me.

I remained calm, as always.

Then—

Far away, someone was watching us through a crystal.

A shadow appeared.

Its gaze fixed on me.

And it whispered—

"The watchhhh… errrr…!"
