They were both on the verge of collapsing. Shawn was losing unbearable amounts of blood through the wound in his abdomen. Kurt was hurt all over, the crash had caused his back some damage, god knows how bad...
Kurt and Shawn slowly navigated through the forest, supporting each other's weights.
According to their overall state, they don't have much time left before one of them dies, and then the other will follow. That is why they tried to be as fast and efficient as possible.
When they made it back on the highway, they waited for a passing car, and signaled for it to stop. They were ignored by a few, until one stopped for them.
"Excuse me, we need to get to a telephone booth as soon as possible. We will cause you no trouble whatsoever."
Kurt tried his best to sound polite, but his looks betrayed him.
They failed to find a ride for a while, so they walked a little more. Then another car stopped.
"If you drive away, I'll shoot you. My friend and I need a ride to the nearest phone booth. Trust me, I will not harm you if you just take us with you. We have no business harming you anyways."
The driver silently nodded and looked forward as Kurt helped Shawn in the vehicle and kept his empty revolver trained on the driver. Then, he sat beside Shawn in the backseat and the car started moving.
Not long after, they were slowing down and stopping near a phone booth on the highway.
"This is Kurt Niel, I'm with an associate named Shawn on route 95. We were attacked and we lost the wagon. Requesting a vehicle as soon as possible."
Kurt almost hanged up, then remembered something.
"Oh, and, send a doctor, too. We're pretty much dying. Be quick."
There was someone nearby, who was assigned to reach and help caporegime Kurt, so it only took her five minutes to arrive. They were both helped in the car by Selena, who was a soldier of The Santi Family.
Selena and Kurt exchanged glances and nodded to each other. They knew each other.
They were swiftly rushed to the hospital. Shawn had already lost his consciousness due to blood loss, and Kurt could no longer walk. Selena escorted them inside the hospital and made sure they got immidiate treatement. All she did was fidget her revolver a few times, then a whole staff of doctors were making sure both mafia members are going to make it.
After a few hours, Kurt's state had improved by a lot. The injuries he had sustained were all minor.
Walking in a room, he looked at Shawn and sighed.
"You did a good job, soldier."
Shawn, who was laying on the bed, smiled, understanding that he was just promoted.
Caporegime Kurt was authorised to promote associates to soldiers, who then serve him directly. It was easy to say that Shawn was a real asset. Kurt's team was generally top notch, because he was one of the best captains.
What rates a person's standing in a Mafia is their contribution. Money is key to everything. If one can provide the family with a stable income, the family will continuously grow by buying weaponry and solid assets.
Kurt's inherited supernatural ability helped him become an incredible thief. It also saved his life on multiple occasions. He was just like his father, only a little less menacing and fearsome.
Paul Niel, Kurt's father, was the underboss of the Santi Family. His presence made the strongest of men shiver. His perception abilities were said to be even more powerful than Kurt's current perception.
Kurt never got to see his father, though. He was killed before Kurt's birth. His mother died while giving birth to him, or at least that is what he was told.
He was adopted by the family's second underboss, Hades Lincoln. Hades was his father's best friend, and he was the one who raised Kurt himself.
Hades was blessed with precise aim and shooting skill, which is why he was the former underboss of the family. Now, he's the family's consigliere.

Two days later, Kurt was in his room, writing something on a piece of paper, when the phone started ringing. Kurt walked over and picked up.
...
No one answered.
Then, the doorbell rang. He walked to door and opened.
It was no one.
A hint of confusion appeared in Kurt's eyes. At the same time, the phone rang again. Before he reached it, it stopped.
The doorbell rang loudly, then the phone, then both at the same time. Together, they made a loud noise. His head started to spin and his heart started to race.
'What the hell is going on? is this a dream?'
But it was no dream.
What was it?
Was it hallucinations? Or could it be his perception...
'Did I just...'
Kurt was assuming that he perceived beyond the future. Deep, very deep into the future to the point that everything that could happen in the future, happened in one instant, simultaneously.
His previous knowledge of his ability explained that he can only see the near future. One or two seconds in the future. This allowed him to dodge a bullet or a punch.
What he did not know, however, was that he had just perceived a whole year in advance...
Logically, his mind would have been fried by the amount of information. Luckily, there seemed to be no activity in his house whatsoever in the next year, which prevented from a stream of information to flow into his mind instantly.
The sudden perception was currently out of his control. Though, it is probably possible for him to control the limits of his perception according to his ability to withstand the flow of information.
This was the first step for Kurt to become extremely powerful!
