"Kai's called me dramatic before," I said. "Des has called me bossy since we were nine. That's not new."
"Defending someone they met three weeks ago over you? That's new." Malachi crossed his arms and started pacing, which was never a good sign. He paced when he was thinking, and he was thinking hard enough that I half expected him to wear a groove into the floor. "I've watched Kai turn down girls prettier than Liora without blinking. I've watched Des forget his own birthday because he was too busy sulking about something you said. This isn't them falling for someone. This is them forgetting who they were before she showed up."
