Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Watching Over Her

Leo's house was quiet.

Too quiet.

After what happened in the streets…

No one felt normal.

Zara lay on the couch, asleep.

Her breathing steady—but uneasy.

Like something inside her was still fighting.

Kai stood near the window, arms crossed.

Silent.

Watching.

Axel leaned against the wall.

"…She almost killed you."

Kai didn't respond.

Axel smirked slightly.

"And you still held back."

A pause.

"…You're going to regret that."

Kai's eyes didn't move from Zara.

"I won't."

Leo walked in with a blanket.

"…She okay?"

Axel shrugged.

"For now."

Leo gently placed the blanket over Zara.

She shifted slightly in her sleep.

"…She looks normal," Leo said quietly.

Kai finally spoke.

"She's not."

Silence.

Leo looked at him.

"…Then what is she?"

Kai didn't answer immediately.

"…Changing."

Zara's hand twitched.

A faint glow flickered.

All three noticed.

Axel straightened.

"…There it is again."

Kai stepped closer.

The glow disappeared.

Just like that.

Leo swallowed.

"…That's creepy."

Minutes passed.

No one spoke.

They just watched.

Waiting.

For something to happen.

For something to go wrong.

Axel broke the silence.

"So what's the plan?"

Kai didn't look at him.

"There is no plan."

Axel frowned.

"…That's not like you."

Kai's voice was calm.

"I'll handle it."

Axel smirked.

"You can't handle everything alone."

Kai turned slightly.

"Watch me."

Zara suddenly moved.

Her eyes snapped open.

"—Kai!"

She sat up quickly, breathing hard.

Kai was already there.

"It's okay."

She looked around.

Confused.

"…Where am I?"

Leo stepped forward.

"My house."

Zara blinked.

Then remembered.

Her expression changed.

Fear.

"I… I hurt you…"

Kai shook his head.

"I'm fine."

Axel crossed his arms.

"You nearly took him out."

Leo added quickly.

"Yeah, like REALLY bad."

Zara looked down at her hands.

They trembled.

"…I couldn't stop it."

Kai knelt in front of her.

"You did."

She looked up.

"No… I lost control…"

Kai's eyes softened slightly.

"But you came back."

Silence.

Zara clenched her fists.

"…What if next time I don't?"

No one answered immediately.

Then—

Kai spoke.

"I'll be there."

She shook her head.

"…That's not enough."

Kai didn't hesitate.

"It is."

Their eyes locked.

Serious.

Certain.

Zara slowly calmed down.

But the fear didn't leave.

Axel looked away slightly.

"…This is going to get worse."

Leo nodded nervously.

"…Way worse."

Kai stood up again.

Looking at Zara.

Then out the window.

Because deep down—

He knew they were right.

This wasn't over.

Zara wasn't stable.

And somewhere out there—

Dragon was still watching.

Waiting.

For the next moment…

Everything would break again.
