Chapter 77 - Chapter 79: Spotted

The night was calm.

Too calm.

Kai, Axel, and Leo sat quietly in the living room of the house, the TV off, lights dim. They had been careful—keeping a low profile, staying indoors, avoiding attention.

But sometimes…

That wasn't enough.

Across the street, a man stood by his gate, pretending to check his phone.

But his eyes weren't on the screen.

They were on the house.

He had seen them earlier.

Three unfamiliar faces.

One of them… looked very familiar.

Too familiar.

The man slowly raised his phone again.

This time—

He wasn't pretending.

"Hello… police?" he whispered. "I think I just saw that escaped prisoner… Kai. He's here. I'm sure of it."

Inside the house—

Leo suddenly froze.

"…Wait."

Axel looked at him. "What?"

Leo walked toward the window slightly, careful not to expose himself. His eyes scanned the street.

"There's a guy outside," he said quietly. "Been there too long."

Kai stood up instantly. "What do you mean?"

Leo's voice dropped. "I think… we've been seen."

Silence.

Then—

Distant sirens.

Faint at first.

But getting louder.

Axel's eyes widened. "That's not good."

Kai grabbed his jacket. "No… it's not."

The sirens grew louder.

Closer.

Multiple vehicles.

"Back exit," Leo said quickly. "Now."

No hesitation.

They moved fast.

Kai opened the back door, stepping into the cold night air. Axel followed, then Leo, shutting the door quietly behind them.

The sirens were loud now.

Too close.

Flashing lights began to reflect off nearby walls.

"They're here already," Axel whispered.

Kai didn't slow down. "Then we move faster."

They ran.

Through narrow alleys.

Over fences.

Across dark streets.

Every step quick. Every turn calculated.

Behind them—

Police cars screeched to a stop.

Doors slammed.

Voices shouted.

"Spread out!"

"He's nearby!"

Flashlights cut through the darkness.

Kai led the way, his breathing steady despite the pressure.

"No main roads," he said. "Stick to shadows."

Axel jumped over a fence, landing beside him. "Man… this is getting intense."

Leo followed, slightly out of breath but focused. "They'll block exits soon. We need to keep moving."

They turned into another alley—

Footsteps behind them.

Close.

"Stop!" an officer shouted.

Too late.

Kai sped up, pulling ahead. Axel and Leo followed without hesitation.

No powers.

Just speed.

Just instinct.

Just survival.

After what felt like forever—

They reached a dark, empty street.

No sirens.

No lights.

Just silence again.

They slowed down, catching their breath.

Axel leaned against a wall. "We… really need a better hiding plan."

Leo nodded. "Agreed."

Kai looked back in the direction they came from.

His expression calm. Focused.

"They're getting closer," he said.

Then he turned forward again.

"We don't stay here."

Axel looked at him. "So what now?"

Kai's eyes hardened slightly.

"Now… we disappear."
