Chapter 12 - Part 10 — The Shadow Outside My Window

My hand froze mid-air.

The curtain moved slightly again.

Not because of the wind.

Because someone was there.

Standing.

Right outside my window.

My heartbeat was out of control now. Every instinct inside me was screaming to step back, to stay away… but something else pushed me forward.

Slowly… I pulled the curtain aside.

And for a second—

I stopped breathing.

A figure.

Standing just a few feet away.

Face not clearly visible.

Only the outline.

Still.

Watching.

I couldn't move.

I couldn't speak.

Everything inside me went cold.

"Who are you?" I finally managed to say, my voice barely steady.

No response.

The figure didn't move.

Didn't react.

Just stood there.

Silent.

Like it had been waiting.

My hand instinctively reached for the window latch.

I don't know why.

Maybe to open it.

Maybe to confront.

Maybe to end this fear.

But just as I touched it—

The figure moved.

Fast.

Stepping back into the darkness.

And disappeared.

Just like that.

My breath came back suddenly.

I quickly opened the window and looked outside.

Empty.

No one.

Nothing.

Only darkness.

My chest was rising and falling rapidly now.

This wasn't normal anymore.

This wasn't coincidence.

This was planned.

Someone was watching me.

Following me.

Playing with me.

I closed the window immediately and locked it.

Stepped back.

Trying to think.

Trying to connect everything.

The storage room.

The phone.

The messages.

That man.

And now this.

It all pointed to one thing—

This was not random.

Someone wanted me to know.

Wanted me to feel this fear.

And that meant…

This was just the beginning.

My phone vibrated again.

I looked at it instantly.

Same number.

I opened the message.

"You saw me."

My fingers tightened around the phone.

"What do you want?" I typed back.

For the first time.

I replied.

Seconds passed.

No response.

Then—

Typing…

And a message appeared.

"Answers."

I frowned.

"What answers?"

A pause.

Long.

And then—

"Ask her."

My heart stopped.

Her?

Ammy?

"What are you talking about?" I typed quickly.

No reply.

Another message came.

"Not everything is what you think."

My mind went blank.

What did that even mean?

Before I could think further—

My phone started ringing.

Same number.

Call.

Incoming.

I stared at the screen.

Hesitated.

Then picked it up.

"Hello?" I said.

Silence.

Just like before.

Then—

A voice.

Clear this time.

Not distorted.

Not broken.

Calm.

Cold.

"You should stay away from her."

My grip tightened.

"Why?" I asked immediately.

No answer.

"Who are you?" I said.

A slight chuckle.

Low.

Dangerous.

"You're asking the wrong questions."

My patience snapped.

"Then tell me the right ones!" I said.

Silence.

And then—

"Do you even know who she really is?"

My heart skipped a beat.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

But the call cut.

Just like that.

I stood there.

Frozen.

That question kept repeating in my mind.

"Who she really is?"

What was he trying to say?

What did he know?

And why did it feel like… he wasn't lying?

"No…" I said to myself. "This is just a game."

But deep down…

Something didn't feel right.

I picked up my phone again.

Opened Ammy's chat.

Stared at it.

Should I ask her?

Should I tell her everything?

Or would that make things worse?

Before I could decide—

Another message came.

Same number.

"Tomorrow."

That was it.

Just one word.

Tomorrow.

"What tomorrow?" I typed.

But no reply came.

I threw the phone on the bed.

Ran my hand through my hair.

Nothing was making sense anymore.

But one thing was clear—

This was not going to stop.

Not on its own.

And if I wanted answers…

I had to face it.

The next day.

Morning came faster than I expected.

Or maybe I didn't sleep at all.

I got ready quickly.

Mind still heavy.

Eyes tired.

But focused.

I stepped outside.

Looked around.

Everything looked normal.

Too normal.

And that made it worse.

I walked towards their house.

Slowly.

Every step filled with questions.

When I reached the gate—

I stopped.

Because the door was open.

Wide open.

That was unusual.

Very unusual.

I stepped inside.

Carefully.

"Hello?" I called out.

No response.

Silence.

I walked further in.

The hall was empty.

Everything looked normal.

But the air…

Felt wrong.

Then—

I saw something.

On the table.

A phone.

Not mine.

Not theirs.

The same phone.

From the storage room.

My heartbeat spiked again.

"Why is this here…?" I whispered.

I stepped closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

And just as I reached for it—

A voice came from behind me.

Calm.

Cold.

And too close.

"I told you… to ask her."

I froze.

Every muscle in my body went stiff.

I didn't turn.

I couldn't.

Because I knew—

He was standing right behind me.
