Elain had not expected the old man to be a deviant himself. He modestly claimed that his gift was a simple one, allowing him to sense the emotions of others.
But to Elain, there was nothing simple about such an ability. She found it fascinating.
Craig sat with her and shared what he knew about wards and relics. It seemed he was merely a little bored and in need of conversation.
Elain certainly couldn't complain, not when he was a deviant who had once attended the Deviant Academy and possessed knowledge about wards created through both deviant gifts and supernatural powers.
"Not many deviants or supernaturals are capable of creating wards," Craig explained.
He sounded very much like a teacher giving a lesson to a student.
"For deviants, our gifts must involve the manipulation of certain elements such as fire, wind, water, or other earthly elements. Creating wards requires both skill and experience."
"And for supernaturals?" Elain asked.
