Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5 - I Come From the Void

Harvey considered that, in terms of power, evolution, and lifespan, he was undoubtedly far more aligned with the characteristics of the Void than with ordinary humans.

In Marvel's cosmic framework, once a being surpassed biological limits achieving indefinite evolution, energy absorption, and extended longevity, they were no longer classified as baseline human. Instead, they fell somewhere between enhanced beings and entirely separate lifeforms, much like the distinction between humans and species such as the Kree or Asgardians.

Perhaps because of his past life and the beginning of this life as a human, Harvey still retained a certain psychological attachment to humanity.

That attachment was subtle more like a residual imprint than a defining trait. He might occasionally choose to side with humans, not out of obligation, but out of familiarity. However, Harvey understood something clearly With a lifespan that could stretch far beyond centuries, possibly even millennia depending on his evolution, this fragile sense of belonging would inevitably fade.

Just as in Marvel history, where long-lived beings like the Asgardians or Eternals gradually became detached from human affairs, viewing humanity as fleeting.

Harvey had already weighed this in his mind.

"I come from the Void,"

Harvey said calmly under the wary gazes of Natasha Romanoff, Nick Fury, and Phil Coulson.

The statement was simple but its implications were anything. Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson's eyes narrowed almost simultaneously.

Natasha and Coulson's bodies reacted instinctively, their combat training urging them to reach for their weapons. But recalling the earlier warning and recognizing the overwhelming threat level in front of them they forcibly restrained themselves.

The tension in the room rose sharply. And just as Harvey uttered those words a cold, mechanical voice echoed within his mind.

[Detected that the host has not deceived himself or evaded himself. Affirmation of self-identity complete.]

[Authority synchronization confirmed.]

[The system officially recognizes the host as its master. All functions are now unlocked.]

Harvey's eyes flickered slightly beneath the shadow of his cloak.

For over two years since awakening the Void System, he had never understood what condition was required to unlock its deeper functions.

He had experimented, waited, and accumulated power yet the system had remained incomplete.

Now he finally understood.

The issue had never been external.

It had always been himself.

While he had used the Void's power, adapted through it, and even relied on it for survival, he had never fully accepted what it represented.

He had stood at the boundary neither fully human nor fully Void.

Until now.

It was only when Nick Fury forced him to confront the question—What are you? that Harvey truly made a choice.

Not a verbal answer but a fundamental acknowledgment of his existence.

At that moment, the system recognized him.

Not as a user.

But as its master.

"…"

Nick Fury fell into brief silence.

Originally, he had confirmed that this Grim Reaper was a superhuman an enhanced individual at minimum—and had believed he had found a valuable asset, someone who could potentially be recruited into the Avengers Initiative.

After all, if the other party were human, then appealing to shared survival would be effective.

Earth, in the vast Marvel Universe, was not a secure world.

It was vulnerable a relatively primitive planet compared to interstellar civilizations like the Kree Empire.

If Harvey understood that Earth was essentially a lone vessel drifting through a dangerous cosmic ocean, constantly at risk of invasion or annihilation, then he might be persuaded to protect it.

That had been Nick Fury's plan.

But now everything changed.

The man in front of him was not human.

He was an alien.

And not just any alien but one whose origin could not be matched to any known database within S.H.I.E.L.D., Kree intelligence records, or Skrull infiltration archives.

This made all of Nick Fury's prepared arguments significantly harder to use.

Because for humans, Earth was home.

The only home. But for aliens, Earth could simply be a stop along the way. If destroyed, they might return to their own world… or move on to another.

However Nick Fury quickly adjusted his thinking.

This Grim Reaper had been active on Earth for over two years.

During that time, he had operated strictly as a mercenary accepting contracts, completing missions, and accumulating wealth.

There had been no large-scale destruction.

No attempts at domination.

No signs of planetary hostility.

That alone suggested something important, He had no immediate intention of destroying Earth.

"So… a being from the Void."

Nick Fury spoke slowly, carefully choosing neutral language.

"What is your purpose in coming to Earth?"

His tone was controlled, neither hostile nor submissive.

At the same time, he shot a subtle glance toward Natasha and Coulson a silent order.

Stay calm. Do not escalate.

Even though humanity possessed extremely destructive weapons nuclear warheads capable of mass annihilation

Nick Fury understood a critical truth from past encounters, including the Kree-Skrull conflict

Powerful aliens could not be handled through brute force alone.

The cost would be catastrophic.

Determining whether this being was a friend or an enemy was the top priority.

"I saw this beautiful planet and came here for tourism… and to experience life."

Harvey lied as naturally as breathing.

There was no hesitation.

No fluctuation.

To him, deception was simply another tool.

Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson all recognized the absurdity of the answer almost instantly.

A being capable of phasing through matter, emitting a death-like aura, and casually discussing interstellar civilizations claiming to be a tourist was ridiculous.

But none of them challenged it. Because they couldn't.

Given the strength Harvey had displayed, instant movement, intangibility, overwhelming presence, their chances of winning in a direct confrontation were minimal.

Possibly zero.

And S.H.I.E.L.D. doctrine was clear, Do not engage in unwinnable battles.

At least not without preparation.

"Friend…"

Nick Fury forced a smile, though it was obvious to anyone perceptive enough that it was calculated rather than genuine.

"Since you're willing to reveal your identity to some extent, that means communication is possible… right?"

"Aren't we communicating right now?"

Harvey replied calmly, his tone indifferent.

Nick Fury paused, then let out a small chuckle, playing along.

"Right… seems I'm overthinking things."

He lifted a hand and rubbed his bald head in a self-deprecating gesture.

"Must be age catching up with me."

"I've taken your deposit. Tell me what do you want me to do for you?"

Harvey shifted the conversation back to business, showing no interest in prolonged philosophical discussion.

While Nick Fury did have tasks that could be assigned covert operations, eliminations, retrieval missions those were secondary.

Information was far more valuable.

Especially information about an unknown alien entity.

"I originally had a task in mind."

Nick Fury leaned forward slightly.

"But now that I know your origin… I'd prefer to make a different deal."

"Could I purchase information from you?"

"While I do accept jobs for money, it depends on what kind of information you want."

Harvey did not refuse.

He already understood Nick Fury's intentions and intelligence gathering.

Still, there was no harm in answering selectively.

"The information I'm asking for won't be a test."

Nick Fury's tone became more serious.

"I want to know how many extraterrestrial civilizations are relatively close to Earth?"

"What is their level of technology?"

"Do they possess abilities beyond conventional science?"

"And most importantly…"

"Is Earth currently exposed to external threats?"

Harvey listened, then answered without hesitation.

"There are countless intelligent lifeforms in the universe."

"Their technological level far surpasses Earth's current capabilities."

"Interstellar travel, faster-than-light propulsion, energy-based weaponry capable of planetary destruction—these are standard technologies among advanced civilizations like the Kree."

"However, most of those civilizations are not in immediate proximity to Earth."

"Knowing too much too early will only create unnecessary panic."

"As for abilities, those vary widely."

"Some races rely purely on technology."

"Others possess innate biological enhancements strength, longevity, energy manipulation."

"On average, most alien species are physically superior to baseline humans."

Harvey paused briefly before continuing.

"As for Earth's position—"

"In cosmic terms, it is part of a region connected through what is known as the Nine Realms."

"These realms are linked by a network once governed by Asgard."

"Among them Asgard, Midgard (your Earth) Jotunheim, and others."

"Asgard is home to the Aesir."

"Beings you refer to as gods."

"Their king Odin Borson still lives."

"And as long as Odin remains active…"

"most interstellar races avoid openly interfering with Earth."

"However "

"Earth has never been truly isolated."

"The Kree have been here."

"The Skrulls have infiltrated it."

"And other forces have observed it from a distance."

Harvey deliberately avoided mentioning future events such as Thor's exile or upcoming large-scale conflicts.

Maintaining the general trajectory of events was more beneficial to him.

When Nick Fury heard the names Kree and Skrulls mentioned so casually, his expression hardened slightly.

This confirmed it.

This being knew far more than expected.

And more importantly his information aligned with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s highest-level classified records.

"You're saying…"

Nick Fury spoke slowly.

"That our myths… our legends…"

"They're based on reality?"

"That humanity has been under the protection of these… Aesir?"

"While the details differ, many legends originate from real events."

Harvey replied calmly.

"If circumstances allow… you may witness them yourself in the future."

Nick Fury fell silent.

The implications were enormous.

Natasha, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke.

"I have a question… Mr. Grim Reaper."

Her voice was steady, but her eyes were sharp.

"You said Odin is still alive… and that's why other races don't act recklessly."

She paused briefly.

"Does that mean…"

"In the future… Odin might die?"

Harvey turned his gaze toward Natasha.

But he did not answer.

The silence was far more telling than any response. And in that silence,Nick Fury, Natasha, and Coulson all felt a tightening in their chests. Because sometimes not answering was the clearest answer of all.

This Grim Reaper had specifically stated that Odin, the All-Father of Asgard, was still alive, and it was precisely because of Odin's authority over the Nine Realms that most extraterrestrial races did not act recklessly toward Earth. In Marvel canon, Asgard served as a stabilizing force, deterring invasions from powers like the Kree and Skrulls. This implied that once Odin died or fell into the Odinsleep, Earth—Midgard would lose that protection and become exposed. Harvey's silence on whether Odin would die further suggested that even such a god had limits and a lifespan. That single omission carried heavy implications for Earth's future security.

Nick Fury did not blame Natasha for asking that question. Instead, he had already extracted the key information he needed, reinforcing his belief that forming the Avengers Initiative was no longer optional but necessary. However, he also realized something equally important this Grim Reaper could not be recruited or controlled like a normal superhuman. Unlike individuals such as Carol Danvers, this being had no clear attachment to Earth. That made any attempt at persuasion far more uncertain and dangerous.

"Thank you for your information, Mr. Grim Reaper," Nick Fury said with a measured smile. "I hope we will have the opportunity to cooperate in the future." Harvey did not refuse outright, but his response remained ambiguous. He stated that cooperation depended on the mission and whether the compensation was sufficient. However, it was clear that money alone would not dictate his actions. There were limits to what he would accept, meaning he operated by his own code rather than pure profit.

Nick Fury immediately understood the implication humanity had no real leverage over this entity. That realization made him deeply uncomfortable, as he preferred situations where he could maintain control. Still, with their current capabilities, confrontation was not an option. Maintaining a cooperative relationship was the only viable path forward. "It's been a productive conversation," Fury added diplomatically, masking his calculations beneath a calm exterior.

"I hope so," Harvey replied casually, fully aware of Fury's intentions but not opposing them. In the next moment, he vanished along with the cases of money, his disappearance resembling instantaneous teleportation. Natasha and Coulson instinctively tensed, staring at the empty space he left behind. Even after he was gone, the lingering pressure in the room made it difficult to relax. The encounter had left a lasting impression on both of them.

"Sir, we can't verify anything he said," Coulson stated, turning to Nick Fury. "He could still be human we have no way of confirming his identity." Fury remained silent for a moment before exhaling slowly, his expression turning serious. "You're right," he admitted. "But he mentioned the Kree and the Skrulls races I encountered decades ago. That information is highly classified, yet he spoke of it casually." That alone made his claims far more credible.

Fury continued, analyzing the situation rapidly. "With his abilities, acquiring wealth would be effortless, yet he chose to act as a mercenary. That suggests restraint or caution." He narrowed his eye slightly. "And that aligns with his statement about Odin. If Odin truly exists and still protects the Nine Realms, then even someone like him has a reason not to act recklessly on Earth." This conclusion made the situation even more complex.

They had no way to confirm the Grim Reaper's identity, and if he chose to kill them, there would be no trace left behind. Human laws and governments could regulate enhanced individuals, but they held no authority over unknown alien entities. The core issue was clear humanity lacked the power to negotiate on equal terms. Against such beings, even nuclear weapons were a last resort with catastrophic consequences. This imbalance made the future increasingly uncertain.

That was why the Avengers Initiative was no longer just an idea, it was an urgent necessity. If Odin were to fall or withdraw his protection, Earth would be exposed to threats it could not handle alone. Nick Fury understood that time was no longer on their side. Preparation had to begin immediately, before those threats arrived. Waiting was no longer an option.

"Natasha," Nick Fury ordered decisively, "track down Harvey Ambellaca and test him. Confirm whether he's a superhuman or something else." Natasha nodded without hesitation and left immediately. "Coulson, gather information on individuals with unusual abilities—anything beyond normal human limits," Fury added. Coulson acknowledged the order and moved to carry it out without delay.

As they departed, Nick Fury remained behind, deep in thought. The information he had obtained from Death was invaluable, but also too dangerous to share openly. Even within S.H.I.E.L.D., such knowledge could cause instability if mishandled. For now, secrecy was essential. Because until humanity could stand against what was coming, knowledge itself was both their greatest weapon and their greatest risk.
