c27 - Tony's Thoughts
"Mr. Harvey Ambellaca, where's Tony?"
Pepper asked as Harvey emerged from the underground research lab.
"He should come up by himself soon, or you can go down and find him."
"I've finished dinner, so I'll be leaving now."
Harvey smiled slightly.
"Leaving already?"
"Yes, it's getting late."
"You and Tony seemed to have a pleasant chat. I hope you'll visit again, Mr. Harvey Ambellaca."
Pepper was initially surprised, but glancing at the clock on the wall, she realized it was already past nine o'clock.
In about an hour, New York's nightlife would grow more chaotic, something Pepper had grown familiar with after years of managing Tony's affairs, so Harvey Ambellaca's departure now was understandable.
"Yes, perhaps next time."
"Goodbye, Miss Pepper."
Harvey nodded slightly, said goodbye, and left.
After Harvey left, Pepper went directly to the lobby on the first floor.
"Jarvis, is Tony alright?"
"Can I go down now?"
"The master is physically stable; his vital signs are normal, but he is currently engaged in deep cognitive processing."
"I don't recommend you go down and disturb him."
"He'll come back up once he's reached a conclusion."
J.A.R.V.I.S. responded calmly, his tone precise as always.
"Okay."
Pepper was only slightly worried about Tony, but hearing the system's analysis, she suppressed her urge to go down and check on him.
Meanwhile, Tony Stark, in his underground research lab, was deep in thought.
With his level of intellect, one that had allowed him to miniaturize the Arc Reactor under extreme conditions, if he were to shift his focus toward biological science now, developing some form of human enhancement wouldn't be impossible; it would simply require time, testing, and iteration.
He had never seriously considered this path before, not because he lacked the capability, but because he understood exactly where it could lead experiments that blurred ethical boundaries, similar to dangerous research fields like bio-enhancement and unstable extremis-type modifications.
But now, after hearing Harvey Ambellaca's words, his previously firm stance had begun to waver.
"Jarvis, after analyzing my conversation with him, what's your conclusion?"
After hesitating for a moment, Tony Stark chose to seek an external perspective.
"Sir, I do not possess a biological identity, so my understanding of 'human nature' is purely analytical rather than experiential."
"But based on your discussion, the key points can be summarized into three primary conclusions."
"First, the Iron Man armor is technologically superior, but its core limitation is the human operator—you, sir which remains a constant vulnerability."
"Second, you possess both the intelligence and resources to attempt to eliminate this weakness, potentially through biological enhancement, but doing so would involve ethical violations that you have consciously avoided."
"Third, Harvey Ambellaca's statements imply that..."
"If you intend to surpass this limitation, you must first determine whether the necessity justifies the consequences."
"And more importantly, whether you are psychologically prepared to accept the outcome of such a transformation."
"Based on current behavioral analysis, sir, you have not yet reached that level of resolution."
"Therefore, my recommendation is to prioritize solving the immediate issue, the instability caused by palladium in the Arc Reactor."
"If the energy core itself continues to endanger your life, then addressing secondary limitations such as physical vulnerability becomes strategically inefficient."
J.A.R.V.I.S. concluded in a calm, calculated tone, presenting the logic exactly as Tony would have broken it down himself.
"You can't immediately come up with an answer, but by then, you may have already made your choice."
J.A.R.V.I.S. responded to Tony's question.
"Thanks, Jarvis."
Tony paused for a moment upon hearing J.A.R.V.I.S.'s words, then suddenly felt a sense of clarity and thanked him.
Harvey Ambellaca was someone with abilities far beyond conventional human limits, while Tony was a scientific genius, but because their experiences and the paths they walked were fundamentally different, their perspectives were naturally worlds apart.
Only by ensuring that he could continue to pilot the Iron Man armor, powered by the Arc Reactor he had built in captivity could he keep exploring and understanding this new world he had stepped into, one that went far beyond ordinary technology and into unknown territories that even organizations like S.H.I.E.L.D. were quietly investigating.
Only by deepening his understanding could he continue to exchange ideas and challenge his own worldview when speaking with Harvey Ambellaca.
Perhaps in Harvey Ambellaca's eyes, Tony's Iron Man armor was already the first step for a normal human to step into a broader and more dangerous world.
That was why the other party had been willing to say so much, pushing Tony to think beyond the limits of science and into something far greater.
However, this also gave rise to a question in Tony Stark's mind: how old was Harvey Ambellaca actually?
Harvey Ambellaca possessed abilities that could affect the human body at a fundamental level, even reversing physical age, so the identity Tony had previously investigated through J.A.R.V.I.S. might only be a carefully constructed surface.
"Where's Harvey Ambella?"
Tony Stark thought of this, glanced around and, finding Harvey Ambella gone, immediately asked.
"Mr. Harvey Ambella has already left."
"Before leaving, he specifically reminded you that he would not repeatedly resolve your palladium poisoning and then depart."
"So you need to find a new element to replace palladium as soon as possible."
"Because you were deep in thought earlier, you may not have registered his final statement."
"Based on contextual analysis, Mr. Harvey Ambella's meaning can be interpreted as either finding a new element or ceasing the use of the Iron Man armor."
"If palladium toxicity accumulates again and no solution is found, your probability of fatality will increase significantly."
J.A.R.V.I.S. relayed Harvey's words with precise clarity.
"Before I realized my body had been restored to a younger state, I did consider asking Harvey Ambella for help again if the palladium poisoning returned."
"But after seeing the extent of what he did, I no longer think that way."
Tony Stark smiled slightly upon hearing this.
Simply removing the shrapnel and neutralizing palladium toxicity was one thing.
But restoring his body to a younger and stronger condition was something entirely different.
He was now effectively six years younger, with his physical condition comparable to when he was around thirty-two—still an adult in his prime, but undeniably healthier and more refined.
The disappearance of fine lines and fatigue could be explained away as stress relief, advanced skincare, or even subtle medical treatment.
But if the changes became too drastic—such as reverting to his twenties, it would raise unavoidable suspicion.
Not only would that risk exposing Harvey Ambella's abnormal abilities, but it could also place Tony himself under scrutiny from powerful institutions whether government bodies, intelligence agencies like S.H.I.E.L.D., or even private interests.
Even with the Iron Man armor, Tony knew he was not invincible.
If targeted on a large enough scale, survival would not be guaranteed.
Because of this, Tony Stark could clearly understand why Harvey Ambella refused to explain further or intervene repeatedly.
Afterward, Tony Stark left the underground research lab.
Faced with Pepper's continuous curiosity, he answered some questions directly while skillfully deflecting others something he had long mastered in both business and personal life.
Pepper was most intrigued by the visible change in his appearance, especially how he seemed noticeably younger.
On that point, Tony Stark could only insist that he didn't know the exact cause.
This left Pepper somewhat disappointed, as maintaining youth and beauty was something almost everyone desired.
However, Tony Stark's expression and tone showed no signs of deception.
So, after thinking for a moment, Pepper could only attribute it to Tony being in an unusually good mood after reconnecting with someone he considered an equal someone who could truly understand him leading to a subtle but noticeable change in his overall state.
