Chapter 13 - Iago's Punishment

In Disney's Aladdin game, which expanded the Aladdin universe, Jafar's sister had spies in Agrabah. After his death, she summoned his soul from the underworld and plotted to revive him.

Without its jovial and comedic side, Aladdin's universe was among Disney's most dangerous worlds.

Aladdin still didn't know whether Jafar truly had a sister, or whether the secrets revealed in the extended series existed in this world. But since this world was fully alive, he had prepared a foolproof plan in case any of those possibilities were real.

And that plan was to completely destroy Jafar's soul.

Genie summoned a small vial from thin air and stuffed Jafar's soul into it before handing it to Aladdin. "You take care of everything from here. You know the rules, I can't kill."

Aladdin accepted the vial and nodded in understanding. He had already pushed the limits of Genie's rules by asking him to capture Jafar's soul. Anything more would have created unnecessary problems.

Although Jasmine had been stunned when he first proposed such a plan, she had eventually agreed that Jafar needed to vanish completely from the face of the world.

If it had been anyone else, she would have given them a second chance.

Genie, on the other hand, felt no guilt. After spending time with the Sultan and learning about the atrocities Jafar had committed, he fully understood the threat Jafar had posed to the kingdom.

Though it hadn't come without a cost. Genie still felt guilty about the death of Iago, since he had been influenced by Jafar. So he had agreed to this in exchange for Iago's freedom and rehabilitation, which he would personally oversee.

"Do you want to do it?" Aladdin asked.

"I've always wanted to do this," Jasmine nodded, taking the vial. She threw the vial on the floor, shattering it into pieces. Then she crushed the remaining fragments under her feet.

The invisible wisps of Jafar's soul scattered into thin air.

Jafar's body was taken away to be swiftly cremated, and his ashes scattered across the deserts and rivers.

Any chance of Jafar reviving from the dead was nonexistent at that moment. It would take someone turning back the sands of time to this very instant to stop his death and escape with him. But with Genie present, the chances of that happening were also nonexistent.

"Now that this issue has been taken care of, it's time to inform you about a wonderful event that has transpired within our kingdom," the Sultan said. "Our Princess Jasmine has found a groom in Prince Aladdin Ababwa. The date of the wedding will soon be announced so the entire kingdom can join in celebrating this glorious occasion."

"All Hail Princess Jasmine and Prince Aladdin Ababwa!!"

"All Hail Princess Jasmine and Prince Aladdin Ababwa!!"

The crowd roared with excitement.

Aladdin and Jasmine calmly raised their hands and waved at the crowd.

Seeing this, the crowd grew even more passionate, screaming louder.

Soon, their voices quieted down, and they all returned to their homes, eager to discuss the events that had transpired with their neighbours and friends.

Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, and the Sultan boarded Carpet and returned to the palace.

While the Sultan returned to the work of removing everything related to Jafar, Aladdin and the others gathered in a garden. Before them was a table, and on it sat a caged Iago.

"Are you certain that he will never be able to return to harm us?" Aladdin asked.

"Yeah… All I need to do is mumbojumbo the magic out of him and erase his memories of Jafar, then send him back into the wild. But that would also mean erasing several years of memories of us and everything he had experienced throughout the years, which might turn him back into a regular parrot," Genie responded.

"What do you mean?" Jasmine asked, her voice tinged with confusion.

"This parrot was infused with magic to become Jafar's familiar. It's something that sorcerers do to expand their influence, giving them the opportunity to gain intel or complete missions that humans might not be able to accomplish," Genie explained.

Jasmine's eyes lit up in understanding.

"Does that mean that Abu is also influenced by magic?" she asked curiously, recalling the surprising amount of intelligence Abu had shown during their interactions. It was far more than the other monkeys she had encountered.

She didn't believe that Rajah had been influenced by magic because he had been trained that way, so his intelligence was slightly more subpar compared to other tigers she had seen in the past.

Nonetheless, she couldn't help but ponder what would happen if Rajah were infused with magic.

Aladdin had also thought about the possibility that Abu had been infused with magic. However, the magic wasn't potent enough, as Abu's attempts to communicate with him only came out as sharp monkey noises. He pushed the thought to the back of his mind since he had no way to confirm it.

Would Abu be able to speak fluently if he were infused with more magic?

He couldn't help but anticipate Genie's response.

"I don't know, but I can tell that there's something special about that monkey. If we want to find out what's truly going on with him, we'll need to dissect him open to uncover what's hidden inside. What do you think, monkey?" Genie crossed his fingers over his eyes and looked through the holes at Abu, who was seated on Aladdin's shoulders.

Instantly, Abu shivered, feeling as though his entire body had been laid bare before Genie. He immediately climbed down and hid behind Aladdin's back.

"Come on! It won't hurt. I promise that Doctor Genie 1 and Doctor Genie 2 will be on their best behaviour," Genie teased.

He split into two and transformed into a doctor wearing a white coat, a face mask, and gloves, with various medical equipment laid out on a floating tray beside them. They walked toward Abu and stretched out their hands as though wanting to grab him.

Abu immediately leapt onto Carpet and took a defensive posture against them.

He screamed sharply at Genie.

One of the Genies leaned toward Aladdin and Jasmine and whispered.

"He seems to be suffering from incomplete magical infusion. Someone might have attempted to make him a familiar in the past, but was unable to complete the procedure. Or perhaps they were too stupid to understand what they were doing, or they did it unconsciously. Nonetheless, you can complete it once you learn the right set of skills, Al."

Realising that Genie had told them the truth in a more jovial and unserious mood, Aladdin and Jasmine nodded in understanding.

"Alright then, let's get to work," Genie said.

One of the doctor Genies vanished into thin air, while the second transformed back into the original Genie.

Abu wiped the beads of sweat off his head and collapsed onto the mat.

He suddenly regretted why he had left his servants and luxurious delicacies just to come observe and deal with this good-for-nothing parrot. Still, since Aladdin had ordered him to stay, he couldn't leave until they were done.

Humph! He would surely learn this magic himself and get back at that Genie for taunting him like this. Perhaps then he wouldn't need to depend on Genie anymore and would be able to create all these wonderful things himself.

Abu let out a sly smile and collapsed on the carpet, daydreaming about his immense magical abilities.

"Haa!!"

Carpet sighed with its tassels and floated around Aladdin and the others, keeping a close eye on what Genie was about to do.

Suddenly, the cage vanished, but mysterious chains appeared out of thin air and wrapped around Iago, pinning him to the table. The piece of cloth tied around his beak also vanished, granting him the ability to speak.

"Thank goodness… I knew you guys weren't as despicable as Jafar... Take my memories of Jafar and of the palace, and mumbojumbo the magic out of me... I'll do anything as long as you spare my life... Just don't kill me... Please, I beg you," Iago said in a teary, crackling voice.

He had watched Jafar's death and was now far more afraid of the group before him, especially Aladdin, who had suggested Jafar's immediate execution. Although it still paled compared to Jafar's ruthlessness, there was no comparison when his own feathery neck was next on the line.

So when he heard Genie's solution in order to spare his life, he quickly accepted it without hesitation.

"Calm down, buddy… This is only going to take a second," Genie said, his tone and expression gentle.

Iago nodded, trying to stop himself from crying any further.

Genie touched Iago's head with his index finger and pulled out a thin purple curly thread from within. The moment the purple thread was fully pulled out, the light in Iago's eyes began to dim.

From Aladdin's and Jasmine's perspective, it seemed as though Iago had become less aware of his surroundings, and a strange, distinctive part of his personality that had once resonated through his eyes had vanished.

"That should do it," Genie said.

///////

For those who don't understand what happened, Genie drained the magic out of Iago and erased his memories, causing him to return back to a normal parrot. Yes, Genie can do that also.

I also found out that there is a Genie council that regulates Genies.

Someone suggested that rather than returning to focusing on my original novel, I should focus on this and open a Patreon instead. Although I'm having fun writing this fanfic, I'm still drawn to creating my own original world. I don't expect everyone to understand this. However, this is something that I'll need to think about before I can provide an answer.

What do you guys think?
