Thursday evening.
Jake was in the elevator heading down at seven forty-three PM, which was later than he should have left and both he and the elevator knew it. He had his jacket over one arm and his phone in his hand and the specific quality of someone who had been staring at documents for too long and needed food and air in that order.
The lobby doors opened.
Sora was standing at the front desk talking to the overnight security about something. She had her bag on her shoulder and her laptop under her arm and she was clearly also leaving later than she should have been.
She finished the conversation. Turned. Saw Jake.
They looked at each other for a second.
"You haven't eaten," Sora said.
"You haven't either," Jake said.
"I was going to get something on the way home," Sora said.
"Same," Jake said.
Neither of them moved toward the door.
"There's a place three blocks from here," Jake said. "Small. Good food. Nobody from Titan goes there."
