Chapter 14: Blue Walls and Paper Flowers

Incheon Airport – Sunset.

The sky is a bruised purple and gold as HAEYOUNG lands her flight from Busan. She doesn't head to the staff lounge. Instead, she leans against a terminal pillar, her eyes fixed on the Arrivals board. Flight KE121 from London: Landed.

Nearby, HYUNA is also waiting. She's tucked a stray hair behind her ear, her eyes bright. After their night at the cafe, she couldn't stay away. She's hoping for another dinner—another moment where she feels seen.

The Tarmac.

JUNGHAN is finishing a site inspection when he spots Haeyoung. The sunset catches the sharp angles of her face, making her look like a cinematic masterpiece. He finds himself smiling before he even realizes it. He walks over, the wind ruffling his hair.

Junghan: "I didn't see you at all today. Was the flight to Busan smooth?"

Haeyoung: (Turning, her expression softening just a fraction) "Smooth enough. And your work? Did you finish the hangar redesign?"

Junghan: "It went great. But... it was a boring day without you."

Haeyoung: (Lets out a short, surprised laugh) "Why? Am I a joker now? Is there no entertainment in the office without me?"

Junghan: (Laughing along, his eyes warm) "No, no... I didn't mean it like that. You're just... the highlight of the scenery."

SUNG-MIN, passing by with a stack of blueprints, nearly drops them. The Director is laughing? At a joke? Out in public? He quickly scuttles away before the "Atomic Mode" returns.

Haeyoung sees the London crew walking through the glass bridge.

Haeyoung: "Goodbye, Mr. Director. I have things to attend to."

She walks away, leaving Junghan standing there. He watches her retreating figure, marveling at how someone can be so impossibly beautiful and so frustratingly distant at the same time.

The Arrivals Gate.

Before Haeyoung can reach him, HYUNA rushes forward. JAE-WON looks up, his exhausted "long-haul" face instantly brightening into a wide grin when he sees her.

Hyuna: "How was the flight? You look tired."

Jae-won: "You really waited for me? Even though it's late?"

Hyuna: (Blushing) "Yeah. I thought... maybe we could have dinner again tonight?"

Jae-won: "Of course we can. I've been thinking about that coffee all the way across the Atlantic."

Haeyoung stops ten feet away. She watches the way Jae-won looks at Hyuna—a look of soft, genuine discovery. She doesn't walk forward. She turns and heads directly to her cabin. She passes Junghan again in the hall, her face a mask of iron, but he notices the way her hands are clenched.

The Cabin – 07:00 PM.

Haeyoung changes into a checked shirt and trousers, sliding on her sunglasses to hide the sunset glare—and perhaps her eyes. As she steps out, a hand catches her shoulder.

Jae-won: "Hello, Best Friend! Were you going to leave without saying welcome back?"

Haeyoung: "Why are you calling me? You have plenty of people waiting for you out there."

Jae-won: "What? Haeyoung-ah, when I was looking for you in that crowd, it didn't matter who else was waiting. Don't be like this."

Haeyoung: "I have work. Go have dinner with your 'new friend'."

Jae-won: "Oh, stop it. Everyone is going. Tonight, I'm throwing a party. Sung-min, Hyuna, the Director—everyone is coming. You aren't saying no."

Before she can protest, he grabs her hand. Haeyoung freezes, her eyes dropping to where his fingers are wrapped around her wrist. She looks at his face—he's so happy, so oblivious to the storm inside her. She lets him pull her along.

The Restaurant.

The group sits around a large table. The atmosphere is light, fueled by Jae-won's travel stories. After the meal, he orders a round of wine.

Jae-won: "Come on, Haeyoung. One glass. It's a celebration."

Haeyoung: "No. You know I don't drink easily. I like to keep my head clear."

Junghan, sitting across from her, watches her intently. He notes that she doesn't break her rules for anyone—not even for Jae-won. He finds himself respecting her steel even more.

Jae-won: (Standing up, a bit tipsy and very bold) "Btw, I want to sing something tonight. It's been stuck in my head since London."

Haeyoung: (Coldly) "For who?"

Jae-won: (Blushing, rubbing the back of his neck) "It's... just a song."

He picks up the acoustic guitar from the restaurant's small stage. He begins to sing, his voice steady and soulful. Throughout the lyrics, his eyes never leave HYUNA.

"I'll build a home for you... decorate the walls in blue... I know it's your favorite... you told me once..."

Hyuna is mesmerized, her heart racing as she remembers telling him about her favorite color during their rainy cafe talk. Jae-won continues, his gaze intense:

"May no evil eye fall on your smile... I don't believe in God, but I'll pray for you... Look, I became a poet for you... You are my God."

The room goes silent. JUNGHAN isn't looking at the singer; he's looking at HAEYOUNG.

Haeyoung is watching the way Jae-won and Hyuna are locked in a silent, beautiful world of their own. She sees the "Blue Walls" he's promising. She sees the "Home" he's building for someone else.

She sits perfectly still, a single white rose—the one from the day before—still tucked in the notebook on the table. She realizes that while she was busy being the "Priority," she forgot to be the "Love."
