The explosion didn't end—it expanded.
Darkness swallowed the battlefield whole, devouring everything in its path. The ground, already shattered beyond recognition, collapsed further under the weight of the power released. Even the air felt heavy, as though reality itself was struggling to hold together.
At the center of it all stood Kai.
Or rather… something that used to be Kai.
His hand was still extended forward, fingers slightly curled, as remnants of dark energy flickered and faded into the void. The attack he had unleashed was no longer visible, but its presence lingered like a scar carved into the world itself.
Silence followed.
A deep, unnatural silence.
Then, slowly, the darkness began to recede.
Shapes returned. Shadows took form. The rain resumed, falling gently at first, as if afraid to disturb what had just occurred.
Kai didn't move.
His breathing was steady now—too steady. His body no longer trembled, no longer struggled to contain the power within him. Instead, it felt as though the power had finally accepted him… or perhaps, he had accepted it.
Behind him, something shifted.
A faint sound.
A weak breath.
"Kai…"
The voice was fragile, barely carried by the wind, but it cut through him more sharply than any blade.
His eyes changed.
The cold emptiness within them flickered.
He turned.
Lina lay on the broken ground, her body surrounded by faint particles of light that continued to fade with each passing second. The cracks across her skin had spread further, thin lines of glowing energy slipping away like sand through fingers.
For a moment, Kai just stared.
Then he moved.
Not with the speed he used in battle, not with overwhelming force—but slowly, almost carefully, as though afraid that even the slightest mistake would make her disappear.
He knelt beside her and lifted her gently.
She felt lighter than before.
Too light.
As if the world had already begun to let her go.
"You're not leaving," he said quietly, his voice low but firm. "Not now. Not like this."
Lina's lips curved slightly, a weak attempt at a smile. "You always say things like that… as if you can control everything."
"I can," Kai replied.
But for the first time—
There was doubt.
Her eyes softened. "You couldn't even control your own heart…"
The words should have hurt.
But they didn't.
Not anymore.
Because he already knew.
"That's why I won't make the same mistake again," he said.
Before she could respond, a sudden pressure filled the air.
Heavy.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
Kai's head lifted slowly.
Through the fading smoke, a figure emerged.
The man in the dark coat.
Still alive.
Still standing.
Though this time… something had changed.
His coat was torn slightly at the edges, and a faint trace of blood ran down the side of his face. His calm expression remained, but there was a new depth in his eyes—interest… and something close to caution.
"…So that is your true power," he said.
Kai said nothing.
The air around him shifted subtly, responding to his presence like a living thing.
The man continued, "A power born from emotional collapse, yet capable of stabilizing under extreme conditions. Fascinating."
"You talk too much," Kai replied calmly.
There was no anger in his voice.
No rage.
Just quiet certainty.
The man smiled faintly. "And you've changed. Completely."
Kai adjusted his grip on Lina slightly, ensuring she was safe.
Then he stood.
"Leave," he said.
The word was simple.
But absolute.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the man laughed softly. "You're in no position to give orders."
The pressure in the air intensified instantly.
The ground beneath them cracked again, reacting to the clash of unseen forces.
Kai's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Then stay," he said.
"And die."
The moment stretched.
Tension built.
The battlefield, already destroyed, seemed ready to collapse entirely under what was about to happen.
But before either of them could move—
Lina's hand weakly gripped his shirt.
"Kai…"
He looked down.
Her eyes were fading.
Fast.
"…Don't," she whispered.
"Don't lose yourself again…"
Something inside him shifted.
A small crack in the cold control he had just gained.
The man noticed.
And smiled.
"…So that's your weakness."
Kai's gaze snapped back toward him.
This time—
There was killing intent.
Real.
Cold.
Final.
And the storm began again.
