Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 – If I Disappear

They hesitated.

Just for a second.

But I saw it.

I felt it.

That tiny shift—

Was real.

My breathing slowed.

Not because I was calm.

But because something inside me changed.

For the first time since this started—

I wasn't just afraid.

I was… thinking.

"They react," I whispered.

My voice steadier now.

"They're not untouchable."

The shapes around me didn't move.

But I could feel it.

Their attention sharpening.

Focusing.

On me.

"You're reaching your limit."

The voices returned.

Layered.

Cold.

"You should accept it."

I shook my head slowly.

"No."

My fists tightened.

"If I was really nothing…"

I took a small step forward.

"…you wouldn't be watching me like this."

Silence.

Heavy.

Another step.

Closer.

"I matter."

The word echoed inside my chest.

Strong.

Real.

"I'm still here."

The closest one shifted.

Its form unstable for a moment.

Like my words affected it.

Good.

"You're delaying the inevitable."

It said.

But the tone—

Was different.

Less certain.

"Maybe," I replied.

"But not stopping it."

A flicker passed through the frozen world.

The air tightened.

The pressure returned—

But not the same.

Not overwhelming.

Not crushing.

I could stand this.

I could fight this.

I looked at my hands.

They flickered for a second.

Then stabilized.

Still there.

Still mine.

"Then I'll use what's left."

I whispered.

Suddenly—

A memory hit me.

Sharp.

Clear.

Her voice.

"You have to reject them."

Reject.

Not ignore.

Not run.

Reject.

My eyes lifted slowly.

Locked onto the closest one.

"You don't belong here."

The words came out naturally.

Firm.

Clear.

The air shifted.

Again.

Stronger.

"I don't accept you."

My chest tightened—

But I didn't stop.

"You're not part of my world."

A crack.

A small one.

But I heard it.

Like glass under pressure.

The thing in front of me—

Flickered.

Hard.

Its shape losing stability.

For just a second.

"Yes…" I whispered.

"It works…"

"You're making a mistake."

The voices said instantly.

Faster now.

Urgent.

"I don't think so."

I stepped closer.

Ignoring the fear.

Ignoring the pressure.

Ignoring everything.

"You're trying to erase me?"

My voice shook slightly.

But I pushed through.

"Then I'll erase you first."

The space around me trembled.

The frozen world cracked again.

This time—

More visible.

The shapes moved.

Not forward.

Not attacking.

Pulling back.

They were retreating.

My heart pounded.

Hard.

Fast.

"Run."

One of the voices whispered.

Barely audible.

I froze.

"…What?"

"You don't understand."

Another voice.

Different.

Lower.

"Not yet."

For the first time—

I felt something else.

Not hunger.

Not control.

Fear.

From them.

"You're breaking something you can't fix."

The words hit differently.

Not like a threat.

Like a warning.

But I didn't stop.

I couldn't stop.

"I already lost everything."

My voice dropped.

Cold.

Empty.

"What else is there to lose?"

Silence.

Deep.

Heavy.

Then—

Everything shattered.

The frozen world broke apart completely.

Light exploded around me.

Sound returned violently.

The street—

Back to normal.

People moving.

Talking.

Living.

I staggered slightly.

Breathing hard.

My body weak.

But still standing.

"They're gone…" I whispered.

For now.

I looked around quickly.

Everything seemed real.

Stable.

Normal.

Then—

I saw it.

Across the street.

Walking.

Calm.

Natural.

Him.

My copy.

Living my life.

My chest tightened.

But this time—

Not with fear.

With anger.

"That's mine…"

I whispered.

He stopped.

Slowly.

Like he heard me.

Then turned.

Looked straight at me.

And smiled.

He stopped running… and started fighting.

Do you think he can take his life back? 👀
