Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – Obsession's Edge

Morning light filtered through the penthouse curtains in pale gold ribbons, catching on the rumpled sheets and the faint marks Gu Jingchen had left on Lin Xia's inner thighs the night before. She stirred, body still humming from the gala's aftermath, only to find him already awake—propped on one elbow, phoenix eyes tracing every inch of her as if memorizing new territory.

His hand rested heavy on her hip, thumb stroking the exact spot where the crimson gown's slit had ridden high. He hadn't slept much. She could see it in the faint shadows under his eyes, the coiled tension in his shoulders.

"You're not leaving my sight today," he said without preamble. The words were quiet, but they carried the weight of a decree. "Security detail tripled. Two men outside the elevator, two more in the garage. Li Minghao's people have been sniffing around the lower floors since 4 a.m."

Lin Xia turned toward him, the sheet slipping to bare one breast. His gaze dropped instantly, darkening, but he didn't reach for her. Not yet. Instead he pulled the fabric back up with deliberate care, as though the sight of her skin in daylight was too much temptation to risk.

"I can handle myself," she murmured, testing the waters.

His jaw flexed. "You shouldn't have to." The possessiveness in his voice had thickened overnight, no longer just lust but something sharper, almost feral. He leaned down, pressing a slow kiss to the hollow of her throat where her pulse fluttered. "You're not a pawn anymore. You're the queen. And queens don't walk unprotected."

Breakfast arrived on a rolling cart—fresh fruit, poached eggs, black coffee brewed exactly the way she liked it after only one morning together. He fed her bites from his own fork, eyes never leaving her mouth. When a drop of strawberry juice slid down her chin, he caught it with his thumb and brought it to his lips, sucking it clean without breaking eye contact.

By the time they reached the office, the tension had settled into his bones like armor. He kept her in the executive suite all morning, door locked, blinds half-drawn. Every time his phone buzzed with a report from security, his hand found her knee under the desk, squeezing once as if to reassure himself she was still there.

The ambush came at 11:17 a.m.

Li Minghao didn't knock. He simply strode into the outer reception area with two lawyers and a thick folder, demanding an emergency shareholders' call. Word spread like wildfire through the executive floor. Gu Jingchen's expression turned to carved ice, but Lin Xia placed a hand on his arm before he could rise.

"Let me," she said softly.

He studied her for three heartbeats, then gave a single nod—reluctant, but trusting.

She walked into the conference room alone, emerald silk replaced by a tailored charcoal sheath dress that hugged her figure without apology. Li Minghao's lawyers stiffened at the sight of her. He himself smiled that same polished, predatory smile.

"Miss Lin. Bold move, inserting yourself into board matters. Care to explain why Horizon Dynamics just received an anonymous tip that Gu Corporation's latest merger documents contain… irregularities?"

Lin Xia sat at the head of the table, legs crossed, spine straight. The Mary Sue Halo hummed beneath her skin, sharpening her focus, lending her voice that perfect blend of honey and steel.

"Because someone wanted you to think that," she replied calmly. "The tip came from your own head of compliance—three hours after you promised him a seven-figure bonus to fabricate evidence." She slid a single printed email across the table, timestamped and watermarked. "I had it verified at 6 a.m. this morning. While you were still sleeping off last night's scotch."

Li Minghao's smile cracked at the edges.

She continued, voice never rising. "Gu Corporation's merger is clean. Yours, however, has three offshore accounts that will collapse under the next regulatory sweep. Walk away from this nonsense, Mr. Li. Or I'll make sure every journalist downstairs gets the full file before lunch."

The lawyers exchanged glances. Li Minghao stared at her for a long moment, the mask slipping to reveal genuine surprise—and a flicker of unwilling respect.

"You're not what I expected," he said finally.

"No," Lin Xia answered, rising. "I'm worse."

She left the room without another word. Behind her, Gu Jingchen waited in the hallway, arms crossed, eyes burning with something that went far beyond pride. He pulled her into his office the moment the door closed, kissing her hard and deep, tongue stroking hers like a vow.

"You handled that like you were born to rule beside me," he growled against her mouth.

The rest of the day passed in charged silence. He worked with one hand on her thigh, as if the contact alone kept the world from spinning out of control.

Night fell across the penthouse like velvet.

The rooftop infinity pool glowed turquoise under submerged lights, steam rising into the cool evening air. Gu Jingchen had carried her here after dinner, stripping her slowly on the marble edge before lowering them both into the water. Now he held her afloat, her back to his chest, legs spread wide over his thighs as the warm water lapped at her breasts.

He had been edging her for forty-three minutes.

His fingers moved with merciless patience—two inside her, curling lazily against that sensitive front wall while his thumb circled her clit in feather-light patterns. Every time her breathing hitched and her walls began to flutter, he slowed to almost nothing, letting the water's gentle currents tease her instead. Then he would start again, deeper, faster, until she was trembling on the brink once more.

"Jingchen…" Her voice cracked, head falling back against his shoulder. Water beaded on her lashes; her nipples tightened into aching points every time the pool's surface rippled against them.

"Not yet," he whispered, lips brushing her ear. He scissored his fingers wider, stretching her open, then withdrew completely, letting the warm current kiss her swollen folds. She whimpered at the loss. He chuckled darkly, low and wrecked. "I want you desperate. I want you shaking so hard the only thing keeping you from falling apart is my name on your tongue."

He spun her in the water, buoyant and weightless, and lifted her until her thighs rested on his shoulders. Her back arched over the surface; the cool night air kissed her wet breasts while his mouth descended again. This time he used only his tongue—long, slow licks that traced every fold, circling her clit without ever giving the pressure she craved. He hummed against her, the vibration traveling through water and skin until she was sobbing.

Forty-nine minutes.

He brought her to the edge six times, each denial sharper than the last. Her thighs trembled uncontrollably around his head. Slick arousal mixed with pool water, dripping down his chin whenever he pulled back to breathe. His free hand roamed—pinching a nipple, tracing the marks he'd left on her hips, sliding down to press lightly just above her pubic bone as if feeling for something that wasn't there yet.

When the sixtieth minute crept close, he finally relented.

He sealed his mouth over her clit, sucked hard, and thrust three fingers deep at the same time.

Lin Xia came with a broken cry that echoed across the rooftop. Pleasure crashed through her in long, rolling waves—deeper than before, drawn out by the endless build-up until she was gasping, vision sparkling at the edges, body convulsing around his hand.

He worked her through it gently, tongue softening, fingers slowing until the last tremor faded. Only then did he pull her down into his arms, cradling her against his chest in the warm water.

His cock was rock-hard against her thigh, but he made no move to take her. Instead he kissed her temple, voice hoarse.

"You're mine to protect. Mine to ruin. Mine to keep."

Lin Xia nestled closer, heart still racing, body limp with satisfaction.

The water lapped softly around them.

Gu Jingchen's arms tightened, as if the night itself might try to steal her away.
