Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Measured Force

The pressure tightened—

Not crushing…

But absolutely.

Kael moved anyway.

His body reacted before thought—

Stepping forward, forcing through the invisible restraint.

The ground cracked beneath his foot.

The figure didn't move.

They simply watched.

"…Good."

A faint shift of their hand—

And the pressure changed.

Not stronger.

Sharper.

It pressed against specific points—

Joints.

Muscles.

Movement itself.

Kael's step faltered.

"…What is this…"

He forced his arm up—

The resistance multiplied instantly.

Like the space around him was adjusting.

Learning.

"…Adaptive restriction."

The figure spoke calmly.

"…If this alone stops you—"

"…you won't last long."

Kael clicked his tongue.

"…You talk too much."

His core pulsed.

Aetherion surged—

Not wildly.

Controlled.

He pushed forward again.

This time—

The pressure didn't stop him.

It slowed him.

But he broke through.

Kael closed the distance—

His strike aimed directly at the figure's center.

Clean.

Precise.

The figure moved.

Barely.

A small shift of their body—

Kael's attack missed completely.

No wasted motion.

No effort.

Just… efficiency.

"…Too direct."

The figure's voice remained steady.

Kael turned instantly—

A second strike—

Faster this time.

The figure blocked it with two fingers.

Kael's eyes widened slightly.

The impact didn't land.

It… stopped.

Like his force had nowhere to go.

"…Your output is high."

"…But inefficient."

The figure flicked their fingers—

Kael was pushed back instantly.

Sliding across the ground.

He stabilized himself quickly.

His breathing remained steady.

But his eyes had changed.

Focused.

Calculating.

"…You're holding back."

The figure didn't deny it.

"…Of course."

"…If I wasn't—"

A brief pause.

"…you would already be dead."

Silence.

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…Good."

The figure tilted their head slightly.

"…Why?"

Kael stepped forward again.

This time—

Slower.

Controlled.

"…Means I've still got something to reach."

The figure watched him closely.

For the first time—

There was a slight shift in their gaze.

Interest.

Kael moved again—

Not directly this time.

He adjusted his angle—

Watching the pressure.

Feeling its pattern.

Timing it.

The moment it shifted—

He stepped inside.

His strike landed—

Not fully—

But enough to touch.

The figure didn't block it.

They let it land.

A faint sound echoed—

Then silence.

Kael stepped back immediately.

His eyes locked onto them.

"…So I can hit you."

The figure lowered their gaze slightly—

Looking at the point of contact.

"…Barely."

A pause.

Then—

The pressure disappeared.

Completely.

Kael didn't relax.

He knew better.

The figure turned slightly.

"…That's enough."

Kael frowned.

"…That's it?"

"…For now."

A brief silence passed between them.

Then—

"…You're unstable."

"…But not useless."
