The cave entrance felt like the mouth of a giant beast, cold and smelling of ancient rain. Kaito stepped inside, the light from his glowing compass cutting through the thick, heavy darkness. The walls were lined with the same blue coral he had seen outside, but here, it was pulsing in sync with his own heartbeat.
"Dad... were you ever here?" Kaito whispered. His voice echoed against the jagged stones, sounding smaller than he felt.
As he ventured deeper, the tunnel opened into a vast, circular chamber. In the center stood a raised platform—an altar made of pure white marble that seemed out of place in this underwater world. On top of the altar sat a weathered leather satchel, half-covered in glowing moss.
Kaito's breath caught in his throat. He recognized that satchel. It was the same one his father, Captain Ren, used to carry every time he set sail from Oakhaven.
With trembling hands, Kaito reached out and brushed away the moss. Inside the bag, he found a tattered journal and a small, silver whistle carved in the shape of a dolphin. As his fingers touched the whistle, a faint, ghostly whisper filled the room.
"Seek the heart of the storm, Kaito... the sea only bows to those who do not fear its depths."
Kaito jumped back, looking around wildly. "Who's there?"
There was no answer, only the sound of water dripping from the ceiling. But the compass in his hand suddenly flared with an intense, golden light—a color he hadn't seen before. The blue needle merged with the gold, pointing toward a hidden passage behind the altar.
Suddenly, a low rumble shook the entire cave. The entrance he had come through began to collapse, heavy coral rocks crashing down and sealing the exit. Dust filled the air, and Kaito coughed, shielding his eyes.
"Great. No going back now," Kaito muttered, gripping the silver whistle tightly.
He looked at the new, golden path ahead. He was no longer just a boy looking for answers; he was following a trail left by a man everyone thought was dead. With a newfound fire in his eyes, Kaito stepped into the golden passage, ready to face whatever lay in the heart of the Forbidden Sea.
