Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 - The Ancient Curse

"Ren Akagami!!"

Iida exclaimed, watching Ren and Bakugo let loose in the class before their homeroom commenced.

"I'll fucking kill you, Akagami!" Bakugo snarled with a smirk.

"Bring it on, boy." Ren adopted a psychopathic demeanour for a brief second, standing his ground against Bakugo.

Kaminari watched the scene unfold with a smile. "Those two are definitely twins from another mother."

"Cat and rat."

Ren Akagami possesses a notably muscular build, with brown eyes—likely inherited from his mother—and black hair. During elementary school, he was the first among his peers to manifest his quirk, which led to his classmates becoming devoted followers. By the time he reached middle school, he had gained a reputation as a delinquent, often overpowering older students and proclaiming himself the strongest.

The Akagami family consisted of four members. The father, Eric Akagami, was a fit man in his late thirties who worked as a bank manager. His quirk allowed him to transform his hands into energy blades. The mother, Emi Akagami, was a strikingly beautiful young woman.

During her high school years, she had been a martial artist of remarkable prowess, earning the title of the strongest after defeating her own sensei and challenging members from rival dojos. Her quirk granted her the ability to turn invisible for several seconds—a power seemingly ill-suited for direct combat.

The couple had two sons: Jake Akagami, the elder, and Ren, the younger, who had just been admitted to U.A. High School. After graduating from high school, Jake left Japan on a scholarship to study law in Chicago, United States. He was an entirely different breed from his younger brother—calm, sociable, and respectful toward everyone. Uninterested in becoming a hero, he devoted himself to academics. His quirk enabled him to render non-living objects invisible for up to a minute after physical contact.

Ren Akagami, by contrast, had a history as a troublemaker. During junior high, he frequently provoked older students and beat them severely. After considerable back-and-forth, he managed to reform and stopped preying on the vulnerable—thanks largely to his brother's stern rebuke before Jake departed for the United States. Ren inherited his quirk, Blade Manifestation, from his father, allowing him to transform both hands into energy blades capable of cleaving through metal. Despite rigorous training with his parents, he could sustain the ability for only one minute.

Tsk!

Bakugo snarled, dropping into his seat beside Ren, positioned at the left corner of the classroom. "Why the hell did you have to sit next to me, huh?" Veins bulged on Bakugo's forehead as he wrestled with the urge to blast his classmate into meatballs.

"Damn, you're loud. Shut the fuck up and let me focus." Ren retorted with a smirk, adjusting his uniform.

"That's enough from both of you. It's only the second day of school, and you're already causing trouble." Iida adjusted his glasses, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "Our homeroom teacher will be here in a minute, so let's all make an effort to behave."

"Too bright!" Ren whispered under his breath, shielding his eyes, incredulous that anyone could be so brazen in front of everyone.

Clank!

The door slid open as their homeroom teacher sauntered in. He appeared sleep-deprived, his eyes cold and intimidating; a white scarf was wrapped around his neck.

"G-Good morning, students!" Aizawa Shota cleared his throat, standing before the class with a register in hand.

"Good morning, Sensei!" The class responded in unison.

Ren raised his hand with a grin. "Sensei, why do you look so out of it?" His voice echoed throughout the classroom, drawing everyone's attention.

"Huh?" The class was dumbfounded by his audacity.

"Ren Akagami, come to the office later. I need a word with you," Aizawa said flatly. "We'll be conducting a brief exercise. Change into your P.E. gear and meet me on the track field at five."

"Yes, sir!"

Aizawa exited, and the students changed into their gym uniforms. Upon arriving at the field, they found their teacher waiting.

"Today, we'll be doing a Quirk Apprehension Test," he announced calmly.

Ren felt a shiver run down his spine as memories surfaced—of a time when he consistently ranked first in both academics and physical activities. But here? It wouldn't come easily.

"Bring it on." He clenched his fist with a smirk, determined to give the exercise his all.

Kirishima slapped him on the back. "You're in high spirits, huh? I like that."

"Yeah. I'm going to rank first overall."

"Bring it on, Akagami."

Bakugo, eavesdropping on their conversation, felt a twinge of irritation. "Losers," he muttered under his breath, hands buried in his pockets as he listened intently to Aizawa's explanation of the rules.

"That covers the rules," Aizawa said. "First, you'll run a fifty-metre dash using your quirks."

Murmurs rippled through the group as students whispered among themselves.

"Bakugo and Kaminari, step forward," Aizawa called. "Show us what you've got."

The fifty-metre dash concluded swiftly, with Bakugo placing first, Todoroki second, and Ren third.

"Damn it, you explosion freak. How the hell did I end up third?" Ren wiped sweat from his brow, mentally preparing for the next challenge.

The grip strength test followed in a blur, and this time Ren secured second place, edging out Katsuki, who came in third.

Each subsequent test passed in rapid succession, and Ren ultimately ranked fourth overall—a result that made him bite his lip in frustration. Never in his life had he faced such humiliation. It became clear that if he wanted to rank first and ultimately become the strongest hero after All Might, he would need to train harder than anyone and go beyond—plus ultra.

"I think U.A. is going to be amazing, big bro," Ren whispered to himself. "I've got a lot of badass rivals I'll need to surpass." His grin widened, unwavering.

The students returned to their classroom buzzing with excitement, chatter filling the air as the members of Class 1-A began discussing their quirks and interacting with one another. Todoroki, however, remained aloof in the back, staring out the window.

"How are you so fast, Akagami?" Momo leaned closer to Ren.

Ren laughed. "I've been training hard at the gym for a while now."

"Really? That's awesome!" Kaminari chimed in.

"Don't get cocky, Akagami. It doesn't matter if you train for a lifetime—I'll still be stronger than you." Bakugo snarled, gritting his teeth as his gaze locked with his childhood friend, Midoriya. "What are you looking at, Deku?"

"I-It's nothing, Kacchan. I was just thinking how cool you were." Midoriya fidgeted with his hair, averting his eyes.

Bakugo's irritation flared, and he barely restrained himself from launching an attack. "Suit yourself, nerd."

Time elapsed swiftly; the bell echoed throughout U.A., signalling the end of the day's lectures. Students streamed out of their classrooms like ants, heading home.

Ren Akagami exhaled deeply, stretching his sore muscles after sitting for an extended period. "I guess I'll finish my homework before heading home."

He remained behind after his classmates had long departed, focusing intently on his assignments for about an hour. "Man, that was tough." He cracked his neck, slid his textbooks into his backpack, and headed downstairs.

"It's getting dark. I should probably text Mom I'll be late." He switched on the smartphone his older brother had gifted him for his birthday and messaged his parents.

Receiving a reply from his mother, he was asked to stop by the nearest grocery store to pick up some ingredients she needed for dinner. He agreed.

With his headphones on, he strolled along, hands in his pockets, singing along to the music.

Entering the grocery store, he checked his shopping list, purchased everything his mother had requested, and began making his way home.

BOOM!!!

"Earthquake?" He picked himself up from the ground, staring at the massive fire raging ahead. "What the hell is going on?" His curiosity piqued, he edged forward toward the scene despite the danger.

"Villains and robbers!" A man with a small horn on his forehead shouted as he fled for his life.

"Someone, call the heroes!" Another civilian cried out in tears.

Ren froze, his legs trembling from the terror the villains instilled. 'Shit, shit, shit. Come on, legs, move!' He pleaded internally, watching the criminals wreak havoc on the town. "The cops." He fumbled for his phone, but it slipped from his trembling hands.

Am I going to die?

Before he could utter another word, a hero shoved him aside, shielding him from diamond spikes erupting from the ground.

"It's not safe here, kid. Find somewhere secure," the hero urged, noticing Ren's U.A. uniform.

"Damn it, we didn't make it in time," another hero gritted out, staring at the hero research facility as alarms blared relentlessly.

The alarm screamed through the vast facility; glass shattered across the floor as a masked villain lifted a small object wrapped in an ancient talisman.

"So this is the ancient relic the heroes were hiding." The villain's grin widened as he examined the object in his grasp. "Unfortunately for you heroes, you're too late."

"Drop the relic and surrender immediately. We have this place surrounded, and your accomplices have already been subdued," a hero threatened.

The villain burst into laughter, pressing a red remote and crushing it. "This place is going to blow in thirty seconds." Grinning, he activated his quirk, and a powerful gust of wind blasted every hero backward.

He hurried outside, spotting numerous heroes and police officers rushing toward the scene.

The villain stared at the ancient object in his hands with a smirk. "Let's see what kind of power you hold."
