"Are we really just going to leave them like that?" the kind-hearted Wendy asked, her voice tinged with reluctance. She had witnessed nearly the entire battle earlier, and she knew for a fact that if Erza and the others encountered those enemies again, they wouldn't stand a chance. Her worry was written plainly on her face.
"Sigh..."
Hearing Wendy's words, Chen Fan's resolve wavered. When Erza and the others were injured earlier, he had nearly stepped in. Chen Fan could be as ruthless as possible toward his enemies, but when it came to his own people...
He shook his head, trying to clear his mind, then reached out to pat Wendy's hair. With a smile, he asked, "What's the matter? Is our little Wendy feeling soft-hearted?"
"Who said I'm soft-hearted? Fine, let's go back now," she said, leading the way toward the villa.
Chen Fan followed behind, catching the faint sound of her muttering under her breath. "Stinky brother! Stinky brother! You don't care about your comrades at all. I'm never talking to you again!"
He chuckled and called out to her, "Alright, stop sulking. Who said I wasn't going to look after them? We're going right now. Don't the fairy tales I bought for you always say that the protagonist only looks cool when they show up at the last second? We all saw how impressive little Wendy was just a moment ago."
"Really?" Wendy asked, her eyes brightening with joy.
"Of course it's true. When have I ever lied to you?" Chen Fan said, playfully flicking her forehead. Wendy stuck her tongue out at him and started laughing.
Carla, who had been silent the whole time, let out a low, disdainful huff. She had seen everything that happened earlier.
Chen Fan turned his head toward her. Seeing Carla looking like a dejected kittenwell, she was a cathe found it quite amusing.
"What's wrong? Who upset our Lady Carla? Don't tell me it was that little blue cat from earlier. Why have you been so quiet? No retorts or sarcasm the whole way?" Chen Fan teased.
"Do you take me for Lucy?" Carla snapped back.
Chen Fan's brain short-circuited for a second. Had Lucy's reputation for sarcasm really become that famous? He shook his head again.
"Alright, let's go and see what's happening."
They stood at the edge of the cliff, looking down at the forest where the Oración Seis were hiding. Chen Fan turned to Wendy and Carla. "Natsu and the others have already gone quite a distance. Let's head down from here."
Shua...
A pair of pure white wings sprouted from Carla's back, identical to Happy's. She flew up behind Wendy, gripped her shoulders, and lifted her into the air.
"Brother Chen Fan, what about you?" Wendy asked hurriedly as she was being carried away.
"Don't worry about me."
As he spoke, Chen Fan's feet left the ground, and he floated calmly in mid-air. Wendy watched with a look of pleasant surprise, and even Carla was caught off guard, though she remained silent.
Together, the three of them dove off the cliff and flew toward the depths of the forest.
Suddenly, a beam of light, alternating between black and white, shot up into the sky. Strings of black incantations swam through the air, weaving together in a dense, interlocking pattern. The seal on Nirvana had been broken.
Chen Fan was taken aback. Logically, it shouldn't have happened this fast. In truth, he was partly to blame; his presence had thrown Brain's original plans into total disarray.
Wendy looked at the pillar of light with fear in her eyes. Carla flew closer to Chen Fan and asked, "What is that?" Her tone was far from polite.
"It's nothing. Just the seal on Nirvana being released," Chen Fan replied nonchalantly.
"Then what do we do?" Carla asked, having run out of ideas.
"Is that even a question? We go and check it out, of course." Without another word, Chen Fan flew toward the pillar of light.
Carla huffed behind him. She thought his lesson to Natsu and the others had been somewhat cool, but now that it was their turn, he seemed even more reckless. This was literally going in alone. She had already written off her and Wendy's combat power as zero. At least Natsu and his group were together!
Still, Carla followed with Wendy. The safest place was currently by Chen Fan's side.
Chen Fan couldn't help but feel he truly had the destiny of a protagonist. Before he even landed, a "welcoming party" greeted him with "fireworks."
Swoosh... Swoosh... Swoosh!
The sound of a series of magic spells cutting through the air rang out.
"Ah! Dodge, Brother Chen Fan!" Wendy cried out in alarm.
Magic flooded toward them like a tidal wave. Chen Fan frowned. He could ignore these spells, but Wendy and Carla were different; they didn't possess his Absolute Defense.
Remaining suspended in the air, Chen Fan used his middle finger to push up his glasses. His calculation power hit full capacity, and rows of numbers reflected in his eyes. Every spell flying toward them was reflected back mid-flight.
Boom... Boom, boom!
The reflected magic slammed into the ground, blasting massive craters and eliciting screams of agony.
"He's a monster! He's a monster just like that other guy!"
"How is this possible? How can we defeat someone like that?" A crowd of people screamed and scattered in all directions.
But Chen Fan had no intention of letting them go. Upon landing, he stomped his foot down.
The ground shattered like a spiderweb, and the resulting shrapnel of rock tore through the remaining group. The world fell silent almost instantly. Chen Fan closed his eyes, savoring the moment, a faint smile playing on his lips. Wendy and Carla, protected behind him, didn't see it, but Brain, standing not far away, did.
Brain muttered to himself, "So, it turns out that even the man called the most merciful hides a beast in his heart. We are the same kind of person. We are one and the same."
