Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Can Seeking Medical Treatment Become a Fashion?

Since Roman's hospital was established, the people of Harrenhal and even the Riverlands took every opportunity to seek medical treatment.

When people discovered that the medicine in the hospital was so cheap that even old farmers could use it at will, the reputation of Harrenhal Hospital spread far and wide.

People from other places were more accustomed to calling these hospitals "Roman Hospitals."

Other nobles would also show kindness, but it was often temporary; a large-scale, long-term investment of resources into the populace like Roman's had likely not been seen since the reign of the "Old King."

One day, Roman was lying leisurely in a leather chair, his head resting on Fili's lap, eating grapes while looking at a river map, while Fili was maintaining Roman's dragon horns.

Over this period, the horns on Roman's head had grown larger and larger, gradually extending upwards.

If not careful, the dragon horns would crack and break.

Although the dragon horns would still grow back later, Fili still felt it was better to maintain them in advance.

"Lord Roman, are you planning to dig new irrigation canals?"

Roman had been looking at these blueprints for several days, and Fili was starting to get interested.

"Yes, although rivers are everywhere in the Harrenhal territory, some areas lack irrigation canals, and farmers still have to carry water by hand to irrigate."

"The dry season is approaching. I plan to conduct an inspection first and then build new canals for those areas."

Hearing this, Fili recalled the various pastries she had recently eaten and said with an excited expression, "Does that mean we can produce more grain in the future? And make more food?"

Roman smiled and scraped the girl's nose. "Of course, that day won't be too far off."

Relying on the use of irrigation systems, combined with iron farming tools, cultivation methods, and the application of fertilizer.

This time, the wheat harvest exceeded 500 catties per mu. Roman felt it was unbelievable when he heard it, and after thinking it over, he could only say that Westeros was truly impressive.

Because Harrenhal continued to invest in the populace, a large number of commoners came to the Hean Family's territory.

Originally wasteland was replanted with crops, and new farmland was being rapidly developed.

Even some yeomen from The Reach had migrated to Harrenhal, bringing new farming knowledge with them.

Just as Roman was envisioning the future, a raven flew over.

"Roman! The hospital outside is packed, they're calling for you to solve it!" After speaking, it went to Fili's side to eat bird food.

"Packed? There's no plague right now, how could it be packed? This isn't right."

Roman and Fili glanced at each other; clearly, neither of them knew what was going on.

"No! Something is wrong!"

Roman quickly took Fili to the stables and summoned the Light Cavalry to go to Harlen Town across the river.

By this time, Harlen Town was greatly changed; not only was it surrounded by sturdy walls, but its population had also exceeded ten thousand, and it had all sorts of facilities, including a large hospital.

When the two of them arrived at the hospital, they saw the waiting area filled with people who were clearly not from Harrenhal.

"Dornishmen? What are they doing here?"

A bad premonition rose in Roman's heart.

Sure enough, after inquiring, the hospital's physicians told Roman that these people had come because of its reputation, seeking high-quality and cheap medical care in Harrenhal.

Because there hadn't been much population movement in Harrenhal before, Roman had only asked local officials to keep records.

But this time was different; after more than a year of development, Harrenhal had become a land of desire in Westeros.

Coupled with the main road built from Maidenpool, people from all over could quickly travel from Crab Bay to Harrenhal.

After understanding the whole situation, Roman's face turned green with anger; it turned out that when he was starting out, they were nowhere to be seen, and now they wanted a piece of the pie.

"Fili, notify the officials everywhere to conduct a census of Harrenhal and then register them. I don't want outsiders to obtain Harrenhal's resources for nothing."

Fili knew the importance of the matter and immediately summoned a raven to send the message.

Fortunately, Roman had spread officials throughout the territory over the year; they were much more reliable at getting things done than those feudal lords.

For the registered locals, Harrenhal issued them nameplates, using these tags to cross-reference with the household register to distribute benefits.

As for outsiders? Pay the full price honestly!

But Roman still underestimated the enthusiasm of the outsiders, because Harrenhal had built a super-sized herbal plantation, so even buying medicine at full price was cheaper than in their own hometowns.

But Roman didn't bother to care; as long as the outsiders didn't cause trouble and bought and sold according to the rules, Harrenhal wouldn't make things difficult for them.

In the days that followed, the hospitals in and around Harrenhal became a must-visit place for the commoners of Westeros.

Whether for their own treatment or to get medicine for friends and family, Harrenhal was the highest priority.

The huge flow of people even brought development to Crab Bay, and residents of the Riverlands and even the Crabs Claw Peninsula benefited from Harrenhal.

Later, the nobles of Westeros also came to the Hean Family's territory; they didn't lack medicine, they came purely to gather conversation topics.

After all, coming to this land of opportunity in Westeros was something worth highlighting, something to brag about at gatherings, not to mention being able to buy glass and porcelain at low prices in the Harlen Town market.

Coupled with Harrenhal's high-quality infrastructure, the nobles who came here felt it was better than King's Landing.

In addition to Roman's compilation of the household register, the maesters also optimized hospital admissions.

Medicine in Westeros was already categorized, and the physicians in these hospitals were also divided into different types to handle corresponding patients.

How to receive patients, how to arrange consultations, how physicians should cooperate, and how to respond to patients in critical condition—all these issues involved coordination by the maesters and Roman.

For those with minor illnesses, Roman advised them to go to small clinics so as not to occupy the precious resources of the large hospitals.

Fortunately, the population of Westeros was not large, and there had been no plague recently, so after categorizing and diverting the flow, the hospitals in the territory finally made it through the crisis.

For a period of time after that, Roman was busy to death, as nobles of all sizes from all over came to join the fun.

As the heir to Harrenhal and the pioneer of all this, Lady Helaena naturally had to drag him along to welcome them.

But Roman was naturally face-blind; being able to remember the main characters of Westeros was already his limit, and now having to face so many nobles was truly exhausting.

However, the gathering of nobles in Harrenhal also had its benefits; Roman could take the opportunity to sign a large number of orders and earn a solid wave of Gold Dragons.

Of course, the nobles didn't just come to Harrenhal to talk business; some would bring their female relatives to meet Roman.

However, the dragon horns on Roman's head could no longer be hidden; some people were afraid upon seeing them, and in the end, no marriage proposals were made.

Although there was a bit of a gap between this and Roman's speculation, it didn't matter; once they were familiar, it would be good for future business.

But today, the situation was a bit different; a sleek, well-fed raven arrived with a letter at Lady Helaena's residence.

Roman was then called over: "Child, Garlan Tyrell of The Reach is to make an official visit to Harrenhal."
