Chapter 71 - The Fomula

Throughout the week, Jace did only two things: first was acting as a magician, and second was creating imitated abilities with the help of the 'Polymath Ring.'

Currently, he was in his bedroom sitting at his desk while writing in a notebook. The content consisted of the Beyonder abilities he had been able to imitate thus far.

They were:

Pyromaniac — Fireballs and Flame Ravens.

Psychiatrist — Placate and Frenzy.

Apprentice (Sequence 9) —Wall Phasing. Assassin (Sequence 9)— Feather Light.

Judge (Sequence 6) — Psychic Piercing, Imprison, Exile, Death, Flog, and Prohibition.

He had Catherine perform these powers for him repeatedly, allowing him to analyze the spirituality patterns so he was able to imitate them better.

Wraith Transformation.

—this was a Sequence 5 ability of a Wraith. From his knowledge, Jace tried his best to achieve it, and it worked, but it was only about 30 to 40 percent similar to the original.

With it, he could turn intangible and float a little—barely a foot off the ground. Unlike the original power where a Wraith could enter reflective surfaces and become invisible, he could only be intangible and partially transparent.

Distortion —from the Sequence 6 Baron of Corruption.

And last:

Faceless—from Sequence 6 of the Seer pathway.

Of course, it was only about 30 percent, or even less, as effective as the original.

From his experiments, he could only change the color of his skin, alter the bone structure of his body, and slightly adjust his facial features.

He could change his face and body—perfect for a general disguise—but it was far less effective when trying to take someone else's specific appearance.

——

When Jace was done writing, he closed the book and rested his elbows on the desk, pressing his forehead into his hands.

His head still throbbed with a dull ache from the Ring's side effects.

The number of powers he could imitate was about 15 or so.

It was exciting, to say the least, to use the abilities of pathways that you don't even follow.

Especially for the Arbiter pathway; he was literally able to imitate all the powers of their Sequence 6. Though only at half effectiveness, it was a significant advantage.

Catherine had been happy to help in that matter and was quite amused at his excitement, but Jace didn't care much about her teasing.

Other than that, he was working on imitating the Sequence 5 Traveler's teleporting ability.

He was halfway there, but it would still take some time as the spirit world properties of the ability was harder to analyze.

Besides, he doubted he could pull it off. Even if he did, would he even be able to teleport with only his Sequence 7 spirituality reserves?

Well, a man could try.

It had been a little over a month since he had become a Sequence 7 Magician.

His acting method was effective, and imitating these various powers also helped him a bit in digesting the potion.

In fact, he even performed the imitated Fireball and the Wall Phasing powers in front of an audience, so that certainly helped the digestion process.

Other than that, there was one thing that was still bothering him: the Sequence 4 formula of the Black Emperor pathway.

It was time to give it to Catherine.

Actually, he knew the formula and the ritual—while scrolling through the Fandom pages about the pathway in his past life, he had come across it.

But he was reluctant about handing out a Sequence 4 formula right from his memory; he wondered if there would be some kind of hidden mystical backlash for leaking such high-level formula.

He had been fine using up to sequence 7 formulas, but this was a high-sequence formula.

So he chose the only other way he knew: The Black Emperor Card.

Initially, it was his plan to steal the Black Emperor Card of Blasphemy from the Roselle Memorial Exhibition at the museum.

But now that he re-read the few chapters of Klein Moretti stealing the Card of Blasphemy fome his memories, his only thought was...

—HELL NAH!

It was impossible for him to do so, even if he were a Sequence 5, because the place was filled with Hivemind Machinery agents and their intricate mystic traps with sealed artifacts.

The only reason Klein was able to do it was because he was in a spirit body form given through the Sefirah Castle's summoning ritual—the guy had summoned himself—and was able to dismiss his form when he was caught, reappearing safely inside Sefirah Castle with the card.

So he dropped that idea. He would steal the Black Emperor card, but he would only try when he reached Sequence 4.

For now, he decided he would just write the formula and the ritual down.

Opening the notebook before him, he tore out a few pages and started writing.

Throughout the whole process, he kept his spiritual intuition wide open, just in case something happens, but he sensed nothing. He continued writing.

But instead of writing it all down on a single page, he wrote each ingredient on a different piece of torn paper.

He also wrote the ingredients in different languages each—Hermes, Jotun, and Feysac—and did the same for the ritual.

Then he crumpled each piece of paper and bundled them together inside a larger page. Finally, he crumpled that last paper into a messy ball which now held a Sequence 4 formula and ritual.

Okay, not the most original idea—it was even ridiculous—but what was he supposed to do?

In shame of his own paranoia, he hid his face in his hands for a moment.

Shaking his embarrassment away, he looked out of the window.

Night had just fallen, with the slight, eerie glow of the crimson moon visible through the clouds.

It wasn't too late, so he decided to go meet Catherine right now; he certainly didn't feel safe keeping a "paper ball" that doubled as a Demigod potion formula on his person.

He got up, removed his comfortable clothes, and put on his usual formal attire.

However, he skipped the blazer, remaining only in a crisp white shirt with the top collar button open and black pants.

The outfit gave him an aloof and casual vibe. He was ready to go.

In the living room, he saw the black cat dozing off.

He was amazed at how much the cat could sleep despite being a Beyonder, but later he just credited her sleepiness to her naturally lazy nature.

Regardless, he slipped out of the building and hailed a horse-drawn carriage.

When he arrived at Catherine's manor, instead of walking through the front gate, he jumped over the fence and entered the garden.

He was discreet, moving like a shadow, so no one spotted him.

He walked to the side of the manor where Catherine's bedroom was located on the second floor; the balcony was clearly visible from below.

With his Clown physique and enhanced coordination, he started scaling the wall and climbed onto the balcony.

When he entered the bedroom, it was dark and Catherine wasn't there yet.

He figured she was working late in her study, so he decided to wait for her while sitting on the edge of her bed.

While waiting, a sudden, mischievous idea crossed his mind. He smiled, and got to work.
