Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: “Inside The Fortress”

Chapter 53: "Inside The Fortress"

The underground corridor echoed with emergency alarms.

Red lights flashed violently across the steel walls as Arman pulled Maya forward through the narrow passage.

But his mind wasn't focused on escape anymore.

Only one thought repeated inside his head—

Someone was already inside the bunker.

That was impossible.

The entire Black Vault system was designed with military-level isolation. No external access. No physical entry without biometric clearance. No blind spots.

And yet…

Someone had taken a live photo of them only seconds ago.

Which meant one terrifying thing.

Zero wasn't outside anymore.

He was already hunting them from within.

Arman suddenly stopped near a reinforced security gate.

His breathing stayed controlled.

But Maya noticed his hands again.

Slightly shaking.

Not from fear.

From rage.

He activated the wrist console quickly.

"Ghost Override. Level Omega."

The steel gate opened slowly with a hydraulic hiss.

Behind it—

A hidden weapons chamber.

Maya froze instantly.

Rows of tactical equipment filled the walls. Encrypted communication devices. EMP grenades. Digital warfare kits. Compact firearms. Thermal scanners.

This wasn't preparation for cyber attacks anymore.

This was preparation for war.

Maya looked at him carefully.

"Who exactly were you before Hidden SEO?"

Arman didn't answer immediately.

He grabbed a black tactical jacket and handed Maya a small communication earpiece.

"Wear this."

"Arman—"

"Wear it."

His tone carried authority now. Cold. Sharp. Unfamiliar.

Maya slowly obeyed.

Arman loaded a compact weapon silently before attaching it behind his back.

Then finally—

He spoke.

"Before Hidden SEO…"

His voice sounded distant.

"I worked for people who erased digital identities."

Maya's heartbeat slowed.

"What does that mean?"

"It means governments hired us when they wanted someone to disappear from the internet."

Silence.

"The legal records." "The bank trails." "The surveillance history."

He looked directly at her.

"We could erase human existence."

A chill ran through Maya's body.

Arman continued quietly—

"Black Echo wasn't a hacker group."

A painful pause.

"It was a ghost network."

Thunder exploded somewhere above the city.

Maya stared at him differently now.

Not because he scared her.

Because she realized how deep his darkness actually went.

And somehow…

He escaped it alone.

Suddenly—

The bunker lights flickered again.

Then the AI voice returned weakly through static—

"Warning… movement detected… Sector Nine…"

Arman's eyes narrowed instantly.

Sector Nine.

His expression darkened immediately.

Maya noticed.

"What is Sector Nine?"

Arman didn't answer.

Which terrified her even more.

He activated the security map.

A blinking red signal moved slowly underground.

Coming toward them.

Step by step.

Whoever it was…

They knew the bunker layout perfectly.

Maya whispered softly—

"Zero?"

Arman's jaw tightened.

"No."

"Then who?"

He zoomed deeper into the surveillance feed.

The camera static cleared for half a second.

And Maya's breath stopped.

A hooded figure walked through the underground hallway calmly.

Face hidden.

But one detail stood out immediately.

The person was using Arman's own security access.

Arman's expression changed instantly.

Not fear.

Not shock.

Recognition.

"Impossible…"

Maya looked at him.

"You know them?"

Arman stayed silent for several seconds.

Then finally—

"They're supposed to be dead."

The corridor suddenly shook violently.

BOOM.

An explosion echoed somewhere underground.

Dust fell from the ceiling instantly.

Emergency systems screamed louder.

The AI voice distorted again—

"Power failure spreading…"

"Defense grid collapsing…"

"Manual lockdown initiated…"

Then complete silence.

The bunker officially went offline.

No AI.

No protection.

No automated security.

Now…

It was only humans inside the darkness.

Arman grabbed Maya's hand immediately.

"We move now."

They rushed deeper into the underground structure.

The corridors became darker with every turn.

Backup emergency lights barely illuminated the path.

Maya could hear her own heartbeat now.

Fast.

Uneven.

Then—

Footsteps.

Not theirs.

Someone else was walking nearby.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Almost calm.

Arman pushed Maya behind him instantly.

His weapon raised silently.

The footsteps stopped.

Complete silence followed.

Then a voice echoed softly through the darkness—

"You always protect people the same way."

Maya froze.

Arman didn't move.

The voice continued—

"That's why people around you always die."

A shadow appeared at the end of the corridor.

Tall.

Hooded.

Still hidden by darkness.

Maya felt chills instantly.

Because Arman's breathing changed.

For the first time since this nightmare began…

He looked emotionally unstable.

The hooded figure stepped closer slowly.

And finally—

Pulled the hood down.

Maya's eyes widened instantly.

The man looked almost the same age as Arman.

Sharp jawline. Cold eyes. A scar across the neck.

But what terrified her most—

Was the resemblance.

The same silence. The same dangerous calm.

Like looking at a darker version of Arman himself.

The stranger smiled faintly.

"Miss me, Ghost?"

Arman's voice came out like broken glass.

"Kabir."

Maya looked between them in shock.

"You know him?"

The man smiled wider.

"Oh, he knows me very well."

Kabir's eyes slowly shifted toward Maya.

"So this is the girl."

Arman stepped forward instantly.

"Don't look at her."

Kabir laughed softly.

"There he is."

His expression darkened.

"The old Ghost."

Silence filled the corridor again.

Then Kabir looked directly at Arman.

"You disappeared without warning."

"You should've stayed dead."

Kabir smirked slightly.

"We both know people like us never get peaceful endings."

Maya finally spoke carefully—

"You're Zero?"

Kabir looked at her with amusement.

"That name survived?"

He looked back toward Arman.

"You talked about me?"

"No."

"Interesting."

Kabir slowly walked closer.

Arman kept the weapon aimed directly at his chest.

But Kabir didn't seem worried at all.

Instead—

He looked disappointed.

"You built a beautiful life, Ghost."

His eyes scanned the corridor.

"The company." "The fame." "The millions worshipping your fake redemption story."

Then his voice became colder.

"But you abandoned the people who built you."

Maya noticed Arman's fingers tightening around the weapon.

Pain crossed his face briefly.

Kabir saw it too.

And smiled.

"You still feel guilty."

Arman finally spoke.

"Black Echo crossed limits."

Kabir laughed suddenly.

"No."

His eyes darkened dangerously.

"You crossed limits when you developed Project Lazarus."

Maya frowned instantly.

"Project… what?"

Kabir looked directly toward her.

And for the first time—

Arman panicked.

"Don't."

But Kabir ignored him completely.

"Did he tell you?"

Silence.

Kabir smiled slowly.

"He didn't."

Then the words came out like a blade cutting through the darkness—

"Your Arman didn't just erase identities."

A pause.

"He created digital deaths."

Maya felt the air leave her lungs.

Kabir continued calmly—

"Entire people disappeared because of him."

"No," Arman said sharply.

But Kabir stepped closer immediately.

"Tell her the truth."

His voice became louder.

"Tell her how governments paid us to destroy lives."

"STOP."

The corridor echoed violently.

For the first time—

Arman lost emotional control.

Maya stared at him silently.

Because the pain in his eyes looked real.

Deep.

Unhealed.

Kabir watched carefully.

Then smiled again.

"See?"

He pointed at Arman.

"That monster still exists inside you."

Silence.

Heavy silence.

Then Maya stepped forward slowly.

Toward Arman.

Not away from him.

Kabir noticed immediately.

And his smile disappeared.

Maya looked directly into Arman's eyes.

"Is it true?"

Arman couldn't answer immediately.

Because this was the first time someone he loved had seen the darkest part of him completely exposed.

Finally—

He whispered softly—

"Yes."

The word shattered the silence.

Maya closed her eyes briefly.

Pain crossed her face.

But when she opened them again—

She still hadn't stepped away.

Kabir looked genuinely surprised now.

"Interesting."

He tilted his head slightly.

"You still stayed."

Maya looked toward him calmly.

"Because broken people deserve a second chance too."

The corridor became silent again.

Kabir stared at her strangely.

Like he couldn't understand those words at all.

Then suddenly—

He laughed.

Not normal laughter.

Empty laughter.

"Twelve years."

His eyes darkened again.

"Twelve years inside darkness… and he finds someone like you."

He looked back toward Arman.

"You got lucky."

Then everything changed instantly.

Kabir pressed something hidden in his hand.

WARNING ALERTS exploded across the underground system again.

Self-destruct sequence activated.

Maya's eyes widened.

"What did you do?!"

Kabir stepped backward slowly into the darkness.

"I came to remind Ghost who he really is."

Red countdown numbers suddenly appeared across the corridor walls.

09:59

09:58

09:57

Kabir smiled one final time.

"Now survive it."

Then the lights shut off completely.

And the sound of automatic explosives arming echoed through the underground bunker.
