Well, as I said before, I have the incredible power to go back in time. Cool, right? I think this is a power that most people want.
People always say that if they could go back a day before, an hour, a second before, they would fix all their mistakes and their lives would be completely different. Most just spoke for the sake of talking, but some told the truth. I, on the other hand, can really go back in time and repair my mistakes.
But it's not as simple as I make it seem. This skill of mine, which I call Restart, is divided into two parts.
The first is the Restart, which manifests itself as a kind of floating blue screen or button inside my head. Obviously, only I can see this button.
Whenever I use Restart, I can go back up to 12 hours and 30 minutes in the past. Not a second more, not a second less. And everything happens the exact same way it happened in the past. The same dialogues, the same objects scattered around the scenario, the same characters from before.
I can even control to when I want to come back, as long as it's within this interval of 12 hours and 30 minutes. I can go back a few seconds, a few minutes or a few hours in the past if I want, to do whatever I want.
The second part is...
"Ouch! " Nate, in another of his daydreams, didn't pay attention to where he was walking and ended up colliding with the lamppost in front of him.
Although it wasn't a strong knock, he was feeling a lot of pain around his nose and when he put his hand on the region, he noticed that his nose was bleeding.
I need to stop doing this.
Luckily, Nate always carried a pair of tissues with him, and used one of these tissues to clean the blood around his nose and partially stop the bleeding. He was already close to home, so as soon as he arrived he could take care of his nose there.
The problem was Sophia, who would probably overreact as always and create a strange situation as always.
The best thing was to hope she wasn't at home.
After a few more minutes, with the night colors starting to take over the streets, Nate finally arrived at his house. A simple 2-story residence, with a large wall around and an iron gate on the front, with a garage and a small warehouse at the back.
Using his keys, Nate opened the gate and entered the garden covered with grass and a large tree near the garage. And the first person who greeted him as soon as he entered was his dog, Doggo.
Doggo was a Cane Corso that Nate's parents had bought a puppy when Nate was 10 years old. Now that Nate was 13, Doggo was 3 years old.
After playing a little with Doggo, Nate opened the door of the house and, to his happiness, Sophia was not at home.
Soon after, he went to the kitchen and put ice on his nose. The bleeding had already stopped, and with luck and a little more ice, his nose wouldn't get swollen.
This is my house. Well, mine and my sister's. After my parents died, my sister had to come back to the city to take care of me and now she and I live together.
I'm still getting used to her presence in my life, but I think that over time, we'll learn to get along.
Now, Nate was in his room. Apart from the PC gamer, the playstation 5 next to the PC, the shelf full of games in the corner, the shelf full of books in the other corner, the bed with space for 5 people, his big closet full of clothes and the dozens of other expensive things in the room, his room was completely normal.
Well, almost normal. There was a small golden star floating right next to his bed. And that certainly wasn't normal.
As I was saying, the second part of my skill is the save points, save states, checkpoints, call whatever you want that makes no difference. They are these little golden stars scattered around various corners of the city.
Through these stars, I can save my current "progress", and if I want, I can use Restart to go back to a save point of my choice. This without depending on the limit of 12 hours and 30 minutes of Restart.
Simply put, if I had a save from 3 days ago, I could use Restart to come back 3 ago days using that same save. Very cool to tell the truth.
These stars, these points that I need to access to make my saves, are scattered throughout the city, the country, and perhaps the world. Here at home there are at least 5. And I'm the only one who can see them.
Other people, ordinary people, don't have this special ability of mine, so they can't do the same as me. Only I can use restart and save. Just me and no one else.
Putting the backpack on the floor, Nate left the room and went to take a shower. 20 minutes later, he returned to the room with a towel wrapped around his waist.
After putting on more comfortable clothes and checking his hair, Nate turned on the PS5 and decided to play the newest game in his collection.
Calamity: Descend upon us.
A new souls like very popular.
In the game, we are the calamity. An abstract entity, without a fixed shape, that created a receptacle (the character that the player uses during the game) to be able to act within the mortal world without drawing the attention of greater forces.
Our goal is to complete the assimilation, an event of dimensional proportions that will unite all the planes of our reality with the earth, creating an immeasurable chaos and fulfilling our goal, which is to facilitate the entry of our true form into the mortal world.
For this, we need to destroy the 23 pillars of reality, which are protected by 23 guardians, each stronger than the other. And for each pillar destroyed, a new strange phenomenon appears in reality. Monsters begin to appear in cities, time begins to work differently in different regions, space begins to "fold" and merge. An endless chaos.
After killing the last guardian, reality begins to collapse as all the plans of existence begin to merge, all while the true form of calamity begins to appear on the horizon, observing the destruction with a smile.
A game where no matter what you do, the end result will be the destruction of the world and the universe as we know it. A fun game for those who like to imagine themselves as the villain who will destroy the world.
Starting the game, Nate resumed from where he had left off before, in the fight against the third boss of the game. A kind of magical archer whose main focus was AOE damage.
Difficult to fight, but nothing Nate couldn't do. He had already told himself that after surviving Darksouls, no other game would be difficult for him.
Said and done, he defeated the boss after a good 5 minutes of combat. Then Nate just continued the game while rambling as always.
I still don't know why I have this ability. I discovered that I could do what I do when I was 6 years old. Since then I just accepted it as a reality of my own.
I've tested everything with Restart. I've traveled back a year in the past using a save point, I've already tried to make other people go back in time with me, I've already tried, in fact, I've already committed suicide to see what would happen if I died. It turns out that, even if I die, I can still come back using Restart.
I'm technically immortal. I mean, I think I'll still die of old age one day, but until then, it's practically impossible to kill myself.
I'm like a game character. I don't die regardless of what happens to me. Of course, I'm still human, I need to eat, sleep and rest, but I'm also literally impossible to kill.
Sometimes I wonder if there are other people like me, people with powers, skills never seen before. This possibility seems so impossible, but at the same time, I don't deny that there is a chance of being real.
After all, if someone like me, who is able to go back in time, exists, then what prevents others with skills like mine from also existing?
I honestly like to think that I'm not the only one. That there are others with special abilities in the world. That the world is like a big game, and the players are those who also have skills.
And obviously, I would be the best among them.
I just hope I'm right. It would be too boring for me to be the only one. But after so many years without finding anyone like me, you can no longer have high hopes.
In the midst of his daydreams, Nate had already reached the 12th boss. All this in automatic mode.
A trye gamer machine.
