"What brings Dugu Bo here?" Yu Xiaowei was utterly bewildered. He'd barely even met the old man.
Although he'd managed to extort three medicinal herbs from him, he hadn't known which were the "gold-in, jade-out" variety and which were the "silver-in, iron-out." So, he'd simply agreed to pull the herbs himself during his next treatment session and eat them on the spot.
Their transaction had been entirely voluntary, with no commercial fraud or debt collection involved. Yet now, a Titled Douluo was knocking at his door, and he didn't dare refuse.
When Yu Xiaowei opened the private room door and saw the balding old man outside, he blurted out:
"Senior Lao Dong, what's happened to your hair?"
"I'd like to know too," Dugu Bo grumbled, striding in and casually plopping down on the sofa. Ning Rongrong, startled, quickly clung to Yu Xiaowei's arm and hid behind him.
"Radiation does indeed cause hair loss," Yu Xiaowei explained, torn between laughter and exasperation. "But to treat your poisoning, you have to undergo radiation therapy."
Ning Rongrong, standing behind him, gently nudged him and whispered, "Um, Brother Xiaowei, Grandpa Bone has also been trying to figure out why his hair is falling out lately. Did you do that too?"
Yu Xiaowei quickly changed the subject. "Senior Dugu, were you looking for me? Weren't we supposed to schedule radiation treatments every seven days? Overexposure to radiation isn't good."
"That's not why I came to find you." Dugu Bo waved dismissively and nodded toward the soul bone on the auction stage. "I'm here for that."
Yu Xiaowei looked puzzled. "Senior, if you like it, just bid. Why come to us juniors?"
"Um..." Dugu Bo rubbed his hands awkwardly. "I just happened to see this soul bone that's perfect for Yanyan, and I just happened to see you here, and I just happened to not bring many gold soul coins today."
"So you just happened to come asking me for a loan?" Yu Xiaowei asked with a sly grin.
Who would believe it? A prestigious Titled Douluo, so broke he can't even scrape together over a million gold soul coins.
"Exactly."
"I don't have any money. I just came to watch the fun today."
"..."
Dugu Bo's face flushed with embarrassment. Asking a junior for a loan was already humiliating enough, but to fail at even that...
"But..." Yu Xiaowei trailed off, feigning a mysterious air as he pondered.
"But what? Just say it already!" Dugu Bo urged anxiously.
Only members of the Fire Leopard Sect and Wind Sword Sect remained in the bidding, and the time they took to consider each bid grew longer, signaling the auction was nearing its end.
If he couldn't secure the loan now, he'd lose any chance at acquiring this soul bone.
Yu Xiaowei stepped aside, revealing Ning Rongrong behind him.
"You should ask her. She has the money!"
"She is...?" Dugu Bo asked, confused.
"Didn't you know who owned this private booth before you knocked?"
"Isn't this the Yu family's? I came here because I saw you inside."
"Heh..." Yu Xiaowei said with a knowing look. Dugu Bo was a man steeped in poison, both literally and figuratively. His reclusive and prideful nature had always put him at odds with the other great clans, and he likely hadn't even been to an auction house before.
"Ahem."
Yu Xiaowei cleared his throat and introduced her:
"This is Ning Fengzhi, Sect Leader of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, his cherished daughter—the granddaughter of Sword Douluo Chen Xin and Bone Douluo Gu Rong. So, Senior, you know who you should be asking for now, right?"
He winked at Dugu Bo.
Dugu Bo watched Ning Rongrong, who was hiding behind Yu Xiaowei, peeking at him cautiously. He sighed and put his hand to his forehead.
He had initially assumed the pretty girl beside Yu Xiaowei was another member of the Yu Clan. He never imagined she was Ning Fengzhi's daughter. Today had been a monumental embarrassment.
"Um, young friend, do you think you could..." Dugu Bo stammered, his face flushing crimson. He wished desperately for a crack in the floor to disappear into.
Yu Xiaowei was inwardly laughing so hard he nearly doubled over, but he maintained a serious expression as he leaned in closer to Dugu Bo.
"Senior, just tell me how much you need. I'll speak for Rongrong."
"YOU?" Dugu Bo gave him a suspicious look.
"That's right! Don't you want that soul bone? If you can't get it now, I'll bid on it for you and you can repay me later."
"This..."
"Senior, don't hesitate! The auctioneer is about to hammer it down. If we wait any longer, it'll be too late!"
Just as Yu Xiaowei said, the Fire Leopard Sect had already bid 1,450,000 gold soul coins, and the Wind Sword Sect hadn't responded in ages. If they hesitated any longer, the soul bone would go to the Fire Leopard Sect.
Dugu Bo gritted his teeth and said decisively, "Fine. Help me acquire this soul bone, and I'll repay you whatever it costs. Consider this a favor I owe you. If you ever need assistance in the future, just come to me directly."
"Straightforward, Senior! I like your spirit!" Yu Xiaowei laughed heartily, clapping hands with Dugu Bo three times. Then he turned to Ning Rongrong with a bold air. "Rongrong, bid 3,000,000 gold soul coins! Let's see who dares to compete with me for this soul bone today!"
The smile that had just appeared on Dugu Bo's face vanished instantly. But before he could stop her, Ning Rongrong had already pressed the bid button.
"Yu Xiaowei!!!" A furious roar echoed through the private booth.

As Ning Rongrong announced a bid of 3,000,000 gold soul coins, the entire auction floor fell silent.
Even Lei Tianhe was stunned by the price.
Although this was a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Bone, its severe damage meant the auction house had internally valued it at only 1,200,000 gold soul coins. A final price of 1,450,000 had already exceeded their expectations.
Yet the Ning Family's private booth had just shockingly bid 3,000,000 gold soul coins.
Inside the Fire Leopard Sect's booth, a middle-aged man with short, fiery red hair erupted in furious curses.

The middle-aged man sighed. "The auction house has its rules. Once it's won, the payment is due. Even if she doesn't have the funds now, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan will cover the full amount."
"Enough, enough. This soul bone is destined to slip through our grasp."

"Sold! Congratulations to the honored guest from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan! This Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Bone now belongs to you!"

Dugu Bo grabbed Yu Xiaowei by the collar and yanked him up, gnashing his teeth.
"You little brat! You screwed me over!"
Yu Xiaowei, showing no fear, spread his hands apart.
"Senior, it was a voluntary, fair transaction. I eagerly await your repayment of 3 million gold soul coins—and a favor in return."
