Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

She stood there in silence.

Still trying to understand.

Her fingers slowly loosened around the coat, yet she didn't take it off. It felt like the only familiar thing in a place that wasn't hers.

Her eyes wandered across the room once again.

The soft lighting.

The calm colors.

The quiet stillness.

It didn't match the rest of the house.

It didn't match him.

And that was exactly what made it unsettling.

Why would someone like him create something like this?

For her?

She turned slightly, her gaze falling on him again.

He was still there.

Watching.

Not speaking.

Not explaining.

Just observing her reaction as if it mattered.

That alone made her uneasy.

"Why?" she finally asked.

Her voice was soft, but it broke the silence completely.

The question lingered between them.

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he took a slow step forward, his presence filling the space again.

"You're not meant for the rest of this place," he said.

His voice was calm.

But there was something deeper beneath it.

Something he wasn't saying.

Her brows furrowed slightly.

"And this room is?" she asked quietly.

His gaze didn't leave hers.

"This is where you'll stay."

Not a suggestion.

A decision.

Her heart skipped again.

The same strange feeling returned.

That mix of comfort and unease.

She didn't argue.

Didn't question further.

Because something told her—

It wouldn't change anything.

Silence fell again.

But this time, it felt heavier.

He turned away after a moment, walking toward the door.

She thought he would leave.

And for a second—

She felt something she didn't expect.

Disappointment.

But he stopped.

His hand resting lightly on the door handle.

"For tonight," he said without looking back, "get some rest."

His voice was lower now.

Quieter.

But still firm.

She nodded slowly, even though he couldn't see it.

The door opened.

Then closed.

And he was gone.

The room felt different the moment he left.

Quieter.

But not empty.

She stood there for a few seconds before finally moving.

Her steps were slow, cautious, as if she was afraid the room would disappear if she moved too quickly.

She reached the bed and gently touched the fabric.

Soft.

Warmer than she expected.

Real.

She sat down carefully, her body still tense.

Nothing about this felt normal.

Nothing about this felt simple.

Her eyes drifted around the room once more.

Every detail spoke of intention.

Nothing was random.

Nothing was careless.

Everything had been prepared.

For her.

That thought made her chest tighten again.

Because she didn't know what it meant.

Was it kindness?

Or something else entirely?

She slowly lay back against the bed, staring at the ceiling.

Her body relaxed slightly against the softness, but her mind refused to do the same.

Too many thoughts.

Too many questions.

And not enough answers.

Her fingers moved unconsciously, gripping the edge of the coat still around her shoulders.

She didn't remove it.

Didn't want to.

Because for some reason—

It made her feel less alone.

Her eyes slowly drifted toward the door.

Half expecting it to open again.

Half hoping it wouldn't.

Time passed quietly.

Slowly.

And yet, her heart never fully calmed.

Because deep down—

She knew.

This room might feel safe.

Gentle.

Different from everything else.

But it was still inside his world.

A world she didn't understand.

A world she couldn't escape.

And the man who brought her here—

Was still a mystery she hadn't begun to uncover.

Her eyes slowly closed.

But her thoughts didn't stop.

Because somewhere between fear and comfort—

She had already taken a step forward.

And there was no turning back anymore.
