Chapter 6 - Chapter Six: The System Strikes Back

The ground trembled beneath Kael's feet as he walked away from the ruins, his body still adjusting to the flood of power coursing through him.

He could feel it now—ancient energy twisting through his veins, reshaping him in ways he didn't yet understand. The Ancient Anomaly trait had granted him power, but the world was starting to feel… off.

It was as if the very air around him was thicker, charged with a kind of tension that hadn't been there before.

The system's attempts to control him had been shattered, and now it was fighting back in ways he couldn't yet predict.

Kael smirked at the flickering message.

"Still trying to track me?" he muttered. "It's getting worse for you, isn't it?"

He couldn't help but feel a small thrill as the system struggled. But that thrill was quickly replaced by a gnawing sense of urgency. The system wasn't going to sit idly by and let him continue breaking its rules. It would adapt. It would attack.

That thought lingered in his mind as he moved through the forest, the weight of the power inside him growing with every step. But the world around him wasn't the same anymore. The darkness seemed thicker, the trees more oppressive, as though they were closing in on him.

Then, suddenly, the stillness was broken.

A low hum filled the air.

Kael froze, his senses sharpening.

Something was coming.

He didn't have to wait long to find out what.

[Warning: Hostile Entity Detected]

[Threat Level: Extreme]

Kael looked up just in time to see a massive shadow darting through the trees. It moved with unnerving speed, its form barely visible against the darkness of the forest.

Kael's heart rate spiked as he instinctively called upon the energy flowing inside him.

The shadow shifted again.

And then the beast emerged.

It was massive—a hulking creature with glowing red eyes and black, jagged scales that seemed to shimmer with malice. It stood at least twice the size of Kael, and its claws were like razors, designed to tear through flesh.

It roared, sending a wave of raw power through the air.

Kael didn't flinch.

Instead, he grinned.

"Let's see what you've got."

The creature charged, its speed almost too fast for Kael to react.

He sidestepped at the last moment, narrowly avoiding the beast's claws as they slashed through the air. The force behind the strike sent a tree crashing to the ground, splintering into pieces.

The system flickered again.

[WARNING: System Collapse Imminent]

"Shut up," Kael growled, focusing every ounce of his power on the creature in front of him. He slammed his palm into the ground, releasing a burst of energy that shattered the earth beneath his feet, sending jagged stones flying through the air.

The creature roared in fury, charging at him again.

But Kael was faster this time.

He jumped forward, his body propelled by the Ancient Anomaly's power, and landed on the creature's back. With a single swipe of his arm, he sent a pulse of unstable energy through its spine, cracking it with a sickening sound.

The beast howled in pain, stumbling as its body buckled beneath him.

Kael stood tall, his eyes glowing with dark energy.

"That all you've got?" he asked, his voice steady and calm.

The creature staggered back, its body flickering in and out of visibility as if reality itself was struggling to keep it together.

The system flickered again.

[Host Status: Critical]

[Ancient Energy Stabilization Required]

Kael smirked.

"I'm still standing."

With a single, swift movement, he leaped at the creature again, unleashing a barrage of energy blasts from his hands. The creature didn't stand a chance.

It exploded into a cloud of ash.

[Target Eliminated]

Kael landed lightly, his body humming with the energy he'd absorbed.

The system had sent this monster after him to test his limits. But it had underestimated him.

And now Kael was growing stronger.

The Ancient Anomaly trait pulsed in his chest, urging him forward.

But there was no time to rest.

The system was far from done with him.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

More were coming.

And this time, he wasn't about to run.

The ground trembled beneath him as the shadows of new monsters stretched across the trees.

He grinned.

"Come on then," Kael said, his voice low and deadly. "Let's see if you can take me down."

The system flickered once more.

[System Integrity: 43%]

In the distance, Kael saw the next wave of creatures.

But now, the true battle was beginning.

Because Kael wasn't just fighting monsters.

He was fighting the system itself.

And the system didn't realize yet—

He was already winning.
