Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"Can I answer the other questions? I understand that you have a lot of questions running through your mind, and I need to quickly brief you in the next hour, before you're found." Shannon nodded her head, pulling her legs towards her chest, making sure she was comfortable enough.

"As I said before, I am the vowkeeper. You're the only one who can see me, though others like you can sense my presence. Still, we cannot be sure, so caution is necessary. You were given another chance at life."

Shannon, touched her chin, slightly brushing it, "another chance at life, not bad, at least it's a new world and not my old one, so what's my name in this life and what am I supposed to do, since the idea of a system is to rank up."

"For starters, I didn't expect you to be enthusiastic about having a system, and I'm slightly different. The only way you can rank up is through tasks based on what the system is about, and I'm a revenge and marriage system.

"Shannon's brows twisted, blinking her eyes in disbelief, as her chest puffed up and down, "I'll have to get married? Get revenge on whom?" She let out a laugh, lying on the forest ground, some twigs getting caught in her hair.

"Yes you're getting married, now I'll be uploading a file in your head, to know the former residents life, just know this, your name is no longer Shannon, but Lilian and you don't look the same as your old self and a little bit of information, avoid looking at any reflective surface for now, including water and welcome to Androva."

"Androva, Androva," Shannon slowly rolled the name on her tongue, feeling familiar and yet distant at the same time, not all her memories were complete on coming to the new world, since she forced herself to forget about the bad ones.

"Miss Lilian, miss Lilian!" a female voice shouted from the other side of the woods. Shannon was about to call out to the person when she suddenly slipped back into another deep sleep.

"Mamma, papa, let my parents go, you beast!" screamed the little girl as she kicked, threw punches, and also bit some hands, but she was too little to overshadow the men.

"Lord Harold, this wasn't the agreement, please!" shouted and pleaded Lord Sylvester, blood pouring out of his mouth, as he coughed with sharp pains to his lungs, crouching over his wife, shielding her from the blows and hits being done by Lord Harold's men.

"I never said I was a man to uphold character or honour, and you know this, but you were blinded by the need to save your daughter's life." Lord Harold replied, raising his hands, stopping his men from continuing.

"Sign the contract, the antidote shall be provided for the girl, she'll become mine to use as I deem fit due to my generosity, and the payment for the antidote is your title and estate." Lord Harold repeated the words written on the contract.

He squatted down to Lord Sylvester's level, "I expected you to have much of a fight in you, Syl, you only got soft since you had a child, what a pity."

Lilain, being held down at the other end of the room, fought with all she had. When her little body began to shake, with her eyes rolled to the back of her head, the whites could be seen clearly, with white little foams coming out of her mouth, her body jerking furiously. The soldiers, confused about what was going on, quickly let her drop to the floor as none of them wanted to catch such a contagious illness.

"My Lord, my Lord," one of the younger soldiers called out to Lord Harold, shakily. We should burn her; she's possessed. Lord Harold turned his head sharply to see Lilian convulsing on the floor.

"Is she?" he retorted before the young soldier could reply. His head rolled on the ground, blood gushing out of his neck. The other soldiers silently stepped back, standing at attention, no one bold enough to speak up.

Lord Sylvester knew, he couldn't ease his daughters burden, his wife was already bleeding out, from the knife wound she'd jumped in and taken for him and she was pregnant with their second child, he knew he couldn't keep this up, he needed Lilian to survive and take revenge, "I love you Lilian, mummy and daddy love you so much," he cried out, coughing up some more blood. With his right thumb, he touched the blood at the corner of his mouth and pressed it to the paper.

Letting out a deep sigh, he looked at Lord Harold, "Remember this day forever, let it haunt you to your death, but this I leave with you, she shall grow to be the queen of this kingdom, it is her destiny, and your head shall be under her throne, I very much know your secret!" Lord Sylvester screamed out as his wife took her last breath.

Lord Harold had carried Lilian in his arms as he walked out. When he heard the last line, he stopped in his tracks, his eyes cold as a winter night, the tone in his voice shifting dangerously low. "What do you even know?"

Lord Sylvester let out a chilling laughter, his voice echoing and gurgling as more blood spewed out of his mouth, "I know the truth, one which will make you pay forever, I have made sure to put systems in place to bring this to light," he struggled to say, heaving his last breath.

Flames had already engulfed the building, as wooden beams and curtains began to fall. Lord Harold's eyes flickered with pity as he watched the beams fall on Lord Sylvester, "I wonder why you fell in Love with someone such as him, Marcy. It wouldn't have come to this," he whispered before walking out.
