The houses were neatly organized. The shops and workshops stood near the roads. The healer halls had been placed closer to the center. Storehouses stood where supplies could be moved quickly. Army barracks had been built at four different corners of the city, each one facing toward the future districts of the great dragon families, so that no single side of the capital would feel weaker than the rest.
A massive wall wrapped around the city as well, rising high above the outer districts like a dark crown of crystal and stone. Tall towers stood along it at even distances, watching over the plains in every direction, while the upper paths were wide enough for soldiers to walk, patrol, and move weapons wherever an attack might come from.
It was not only a wall meant to look impressive.
