Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: Secrets and Shadows

The celebration of the hospital's opening was still fresh in Divura's mind as she stepped into the grand hall of her home. Her heart raced from the day's events, images of the towering, almost otherworldly building flashing behind her eyes. It had been more than remarkable it had been unimaginable. She couldn't stop thinking about the sketches she had seen, certain that the building was far from ordinary.

"Divura," her father, Kael, called gently from the sitting room, beckoning her to sit beside him.

She obeyed, her mind still clouded with awe. "Yes, Father?"

He exchanged a glance with Kael, her mother, before speaking. "There's something we need to tell you, something we should have shared long ago."

Divura frowned, unease creeping into her chest. "What is it?"

Kael took her hand. "You weren't born to us, Divura. We found you… in a forest, many years ago, when we were wandering near the mountains that lie between Veritida and Auentia."

The words hit her like a stone. She blinked, trying to process them. "You… you found me in the forest? Then… then I'm not your daughter?"

Karl shook his head, his eyes soft. "By blood, no. But by heart, you have always been our daughter. You've always been our Divura, and nothing ,nothing ,can change that."

Divura's hands trembled. A thousand questions fought for release, but she couldn't voice them. The realization that she had been abandoned, perhaps because she wasn't wanted, clawed at her chest. "So… all this time… I was… not your biological child?"

Kael nodded, tears brimming. "Yes. We chose you the moment we saw you. And we've loved you since then."

Despite the comfort of their words, Divura felt a hollow ache. "I… I don't understand. Why me? Why was I left there?"

Karl sighed, rubbing his temples. "Some things are meant to remain a mystery, my child. But know this ,you were meant for more than we could ever imagine."

Far away, in the heart of the Auentia Kingdom, tension filled the air. King Valeron paced back and forth across the grand chamber, his face tight with worry. The heavy scent of incense lingered as the palace seer entered, robes flowing behind her.

"Your Highness," he said, bowing slightly, "I have just completed the star reading. I… I am shocked by what I have found."

The king stopped abruptly, eyes narrowing. "Explain. What is so troubling?"

The seer's voice trembled. "The star born eighteen years ago the one we believed is lost, is still shining brightly. It appeared in the clouds yesterday, hovering dangerously close to our lands."

The king's jaw tightened. "What do you mean? I thought… I thought she was dead."

"We cannot be certain, Your Majesty," the seer replied. "But signs indicate she lives. We must find her before it is too late."

The king's fists clenched. "Eliminate her. She cannot survive. If she does… she will ruin everything I have built."

"How will we search for her, Your Majesty?" the seer asked, a note of hesitation in her voice. "It is like trying to find a needle in the sea."

"We will use… special methods," the king growled. "Risky, yes, but I cannot allow her to spoil my legacy. I will not fail."

A guard approached cautiously. "Your Majesty, how is the prince?"

King Valeron waved him off. "I administered the herbs my self. But the child… born of the fourth queen… he is weak, fragile from birth. We can only pray for a miracle."

The king's hands gripped the edge of the ornate table. "Am I being punished by the gods? None of my children have survived. Only this one remains… this weak, crabbed boy. Is this my fate?"

"Your Majesty," the seer said softly, "we must think of a solution, not dwell on punishment. There is still hope if we act wisely."

The king's eyes flashed, torn between anger and desperation. "I will not fail. I will not be undone."

Meanwhile, in Veritida, Damian stood atop the ramparts of his castle, the wind whipping through his hair. His army was gathered below, the banners of Veritida snapping in the breeze.

He turned to his generals, his voice firm. "We have waited too long. Auentia grows bold, and if we do not act now, they will strike first. Our strategy must be precise."

General henry, one of Damian's most trusted commanders, stepped forward. "The scouts report that Auentia's defenses are concentrated near the southern borders. They expect an attack from there. But their northern flank is lightly guarded. A strike there could give us the advantage."

Damian nodded thoughtfully. "Good. And the timing?"

"We move at dawn. The fog will cover our advance," Kael replied. "If we act quickly, we can take them by surprise before they are fully prepared."

The young prince's mind drifted for a moment to the prophecy he had heard in his dreams the one that spoke of a star born in the mountains, bright and unyielding, who would change the fate of kingdoms. He clenched his fists. "Whatever it takes… we will secure Veritida. And I will find her. The one the stars chose."

That night, Divura lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her mind raced with the secrets she had learned, the shadows of Auentia, and the unseen threads pulling her toward a destiny she could barely understand.

"I… I have to be ready," she whispered to herself. "No matter what. I will not let fear define me. Lara and Kael… they are my family, my strength. And I… I will be who I am meant to be."

Outside, the winds of change stirred across two kingdoms, and the stars above shone with secrets yet to be revealed.
