Nic kept his voice low, his eyes doing a casual sweep of the area around them before he spoke.
"Next month, I have a mission coming up," he said. "It's top secret, but I feel you're the kind of person that suits this mission. I'm putting together a small team, and I can put your name forward for a spot on it."
Lukas looked at him. "What kind of mission?"
"I can't say."
"What's the objective?"
"Can't say that either."
Lukas studied the man's face. "What can you tell me?"
Nic smiled. "The pay is high. Higher than tonight, and much higher than most jobs you'd find at your rank."
He grinned at Lukas, trying to gauge his reaction. "That's all I can give you right now."
Lukas thought about it. This was a mission with no details, no objective, and no way to assess the risk properly.
