Chapter 68 - Alternate Chapter 70: The Sovereign's Miracle

Alternate Chapter 70: The Sovereign's Miracle

The gray, miles-wide sphere of airborne decay simply ceased to exist.

There was no explosive shockwave. The chaotic, automated barrage of plasma and spatial distortions that had been tearing the Pacific atmosphere apart vanished the exact microsecond Izuku Midoriya and the Winged Sovereign snapped their consciousness back to the physical world.

They had done it. The Emperor of Decay was asleep.

Suspended in the night sky, the monstrous, 85% integrated body of Tomura Shigaraki went completely limp. The agonizing, weeping fissures across his flesh stopped bleeding. He was unconscious, his fractured mind finally plunged into a deep, peaceful sleep.

But as the silence settled over the ocean, a horrific sound shattered the peace.

It sounded like a massive oak tree violently splintering in half.

"All Might!" Midoriya screamed.

The golden, brilliant aura of Eri's Rewind—the temporal paradox that had resurrected the Prime Symbol of Peace for exactly one hour—violently shattered like fragile glass.

The chronological snapback was instantaneous and completely unforgiving. Toshinori Yagi convulsed in mid-air. His massive, invincible muscles violently withered, the flesh sagging and tearing as decades of age and trauma aggressively reasserted themselves in a single second.

A massive fountain of blood erupted from Toshinori's mouth. His spine bowed forward under the impossible weight of time correcting itself. He began to plummet toward the churning Pacific.

"I've got him!" Hawks yelled, his remaining feathers wrapping tightly around the unconscious Shigaraki to secure the villain, while Midoriya and Bakugo rocketed toward their falling mentor.

One For All 100%. Midoriya crossed the distance in a microsecond, catching the frail, broken body of Toshinori in his arms. Bakugo arrived a fraction of a second later, grabbing Toshinori's shoulders to stabilize the descent.

Nocturne used the Omni-Weave to instantly project a massive, solid platform of Knight's Vow silver density-glass, creating a floating, starlit island directly over the water.

Midoriya and Bakugo gently lowered Toshinori onto the silver glass.

The Symbol of Peace was dying. His breathing was wet and agonizingly slow. The chronological snapback had completely crushed his internal organs.

"All Might..." Midoriya sobbed, tears spilling from his green eyes as he hovered over his mentor. "Hold on. Please..."

"The hour... is up," Toshinori wheezed, a weak, bloody smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. He reached up with a trembling, skeletal hand. "The universe... always collects its debts. I am so proud... of both of you."

Bakugo dropped to his knees, his jaw clenched so tight it trembled. "You stupid old man. You didn't have to jump into the blender."

Toshinori's eyes began to dim. The final breath rattled in his chest.

"No."

The dual-toned voice did not boom. It hummed with a terrifying, absolute, and reality-bending defiance.

Rei Arata—the Winged Sovereign—stepped forward. He pulled the silver moth-mask off his face, tossing it onto the glass. The pale teenager dropped to his knees beside the dying legend.

"The universe does not collect debts in my domain," Rei stated, his kaleidoscopic eyes flaring with a blinding, incandescent light. "The old world let you bleed to death for them, Toshinori. The Swarm does not."

Rei slammed his hands onto Toshinori's shattered chest.

"OMNI-WEAVE: MAXIMUM SYNTHESIS!" Rei didn't just borrow Quirks; he bridged the physical distance between the Pacific Ocean and the Spire inside Aegis Prime. He forcefully networked his soul with Eri and Akio, who were miles away inside the dimension.

"Eri! Akio!" Rei's voice echoed directly into their minds. "Give me everything! Do not heal him—Anchor him!"

A breathtaking pillar of multi-colored starlight erupted from Rei's hands.

He channeled Eri's Rewind, not to reverse time, but to violently halt the forward momentum of Toshinori's cellular decay. He layered it with Akio's Eternal Vitality, flooding the dying organs with infinite, localized cellular division. But the sheer weight of the paradox was still trying to crush Toshinori's spine.

"You can't cure time, Rei!" Bakugo yelled over the roaring cosmic wind. "The snapback is absolute!"

"I am not curing time," Rei gritted his teeth, blood pouring from his nose as he pushed his cosmic core past 1,000,000%. "I am locking it!"

Rei channeled the fundamental, conceptual physics of the Sanctuary Phasing dimension. He took the conceptual starlight of Aegis Prime and physically wove it into Toshinori Yagi's DNA.

"NEXUS PHASE: CHRONOLOGICAL STASIS CRADLE!"

A cocoon of iridescent blue, golden-violet, and brilliant yellow energy completely encased the Symbol of Peace.

The horrific, wet rattling in Toshinori's chest stopped. The violent withering of his flesh halted. The blood pooling beneath him vanished, converted into harmless starlight.

Inside the cocoon, Toshinori Yagi gasped, his eyes flying open. The blinding blue returned to his irises. The agonizing pain that had plagued him since Kamino simply ceased to exist.

The golden cocoon faded, sinking into his skin, leaving a faint, permanent, starlit glow tracing the veins on his frail arms and neck.

He wasn't restored to his muscular Prime form. He was still the skeletal, frail man. But he was perfectly, flawlessly stabilized.

Midoriya fell back, staring in absolute shock as Toshinori slowly sat up on the silver glass, looking at his own hands in disbelief. He took a deep, full breath—the first completely painless breath he had taken in six years.

"Sovereign..." Toshinori whispered, looking at the exhausted, panting teenager beside him. "What... what did you do? I should be dead. The paradox..."

Rei wiped the blood from his lip, a tired, genuine smile on his face.

"I put you in a cage of starlight, Toshinori," Rei explained, his human voice raspy from the exertion. "I used the Astral Nexus to freeze your biological clock at the exact microsecond before the paradox killed you. As long as that starlight is in your veins, you will not age. Your organs will not fail. You will never feel pain again."

Toshinori stared at the Sovereign. "You made me immortal?"

"No," Rei shook his head, his expression turning solemn. "I made you a ghost of Aegis Prime. Your existence is now fundamentally tethered to the conceptual physics of my dimension. Your heart beats because the Astral Nexus tells it to. Which means..."

Rei looked out at the dark, ruined surface of Japan on the horizon.

"...you can never leave the Sanctuary," Rei finished quietly. "If you ever cross the dimensional gateway back into the physical world, the stasis will instantly break. The paradox will resume, and you will turn to dust in seconds. Aegis Prime is your eternal home now."

Toshinori looked at Midoriya and Bakugo, who were both weeping—no longer from grief, but from sheer, overwhelming relief. They threw their arms around the frail old man, holding him tight.

Toshinori returned the hug, closing his eyes, tears of profound gratitude slipping down his sunken cheeks. He would never walk under the real sun again. He would never feel natural rain. But he would live to see his students rebuild the world.

"Aegis Prime," Toshinori whispered, holding his boys. "It sounds like a wonderful place to retire."

The sound of massive jet engines broke the emotional quiet.

The international stealth fleet and the I-Island Hercules carriers broke through the clouds, illuminated by the rising sun. Star and Stripe and David Shield dropped from the lead bomber onto the silver platform.

David Shield took one look at Toshinori Yagi—frail, glowing faintly with starlight, but alive and smiling—and fell to his knees, sobbing as he scrambled forward to embrace his best friend.

Star and Stripe looked at the Winged Sovereign, who was putting his silver mask back on. The American hero placed her fist over her heart and bowed deeply.

The world had arrived, expecting to find a graveyard. Instead, they found a miracle.

"GateL0ck," Nocturne's voice hummed across the comms, echoing with triumphant finality. "Open the doors. Bring the Symbol home."

A massive, iridescent blue gateway opened on the silver platform over the ocean. The Vanguard, carrying the sleeping Emperor of Decay and supporting the living legend of the Golden Age, stepped through the portal, leaving the old world behind to step into the eternal starlight of the new.
