Judging from the voices, could it be… Halo Goodbye and Colorful Victory?
Come to think of it, when she had fallen behind Mototo, she really had thought she heard something that sounded like those two. At first she had assumed she was hearing things, but now it seemed that had truly been them after all. So she had not been imagining it.
But that made no sense. Weren't they supposed to be racing in America? What were they doing in England? Had they really come all this way just to watch her race?
Wow. That was one deeply heartfelt friendship.
Sure enough, it was not long before the two horse girls appeared under the maid's guidance. And the moment they arrived, they saw Daiwa Scarlet and Lady locked in a struggle over Xingyun Liuge.
Should it be said that they truly were good rivals who had run side by side and improved together?
The two of them did not exchange a single glance or say a single word to each other, yet they acted at once with perfect decisiveness. One moved in from the left, the other from the right, surrounding Xingyun Liuge and instantly separating the two girls tangled around her.
Their movements, their speed—it was absurdly fast.
So fast that even the people involved did not realize what had happened until the "battle" was already over.
Agnes Tachyon had originally meant to warn Daiwa Scarlet, but after a moment's thought, she decisively gave up. A bold idea rose in her mind.
There were exactly two of them on the other side. And she and Daiwa Scarlet were also two people.
Wasn't that perfect?
Yes. Absolutely perfect.
To defeat two people, naturally you needed two people. More importantly, the way she and Daiwa Scarlet played was far more exciting than whatever those two American horse girls were doing.
Besides, Daiwa Scarlet idolized Xingyun Liuge. She would definitely be willing to bear this so-called "cost," which hardly counted as a cost at all, right?
A senior and junior from the same family line sharing Xingyun Liuge together… If this were ancient times, it might well have been praised as a beautiful story.
With that thought, Agnes Tachyon relaxed completely. She no longer had the slightest intention of helping Daiwa Scarlet. Instead, she propped up her chin and watched the girls' "fight" with great interest.
That attitude instantly resonated with Maruzensky.
So even the new generation of horse girls liked this kind of entertaining development, huh?
Well, it made sense. This sort of scene really was delightful.
How could an as-yet-undebuted horse girl possibly win against one who was gradually growing into maturity?
The two Japanese girls were quickly forced onto the back foot. Yet the two American girls did not move in to replace their positions and restart the "sandwich" routine. Instead, they began lecturing them in the tone of elders correcting their juniors.
Victory Colors looked displeased.
"I've heard that in Japan, respect for age and seniority is practically carved into people's bones. Xingyun is your senior. How can you behave so rudely toward her?"
Halo Goodbye had a junior back in Japan named Saint Halo, so she found the whole thing even more puzzling. She translated Victory Colors' words for them, then added in halting Japanese:
"Seriously. What is this supposed to be?"
Daiwa Scarlet had originally wanted to blurt out, What is she babbling about? I can't understand a word. But to her shock, Halo Goodbye was actually speaking Japanese. The pronunciation was a little stiff, but it was perfectly usable for ordinary conversation.
At that point, pretending not to understand was no longer an option.
Daiwa Scarlet's mood instantly soured. And then an even more serious thought struck her.
This girl had actually gone out of her way to learn Japanese. Didn't that obviously mean she had designs on Xingyun-senpai—no, on Lady Xingyun?
Learning a foreign language for the sake of someone you liked? That was certainly the kind of thing that could motivate a person. But from the perspective of Japanese horse girls, was that not a complete disaster?
Daiwa Scarlet immediately imagined a future in which Halo Goodbye launched a fierce offensive on Xingyun Liuge, and her expression froze on the spot.
Lady clearly thought of the same thing. Her face darkened as well, and she leaned close to Daiwa Scarlet to whisper,
"Senpai Daiwa, I think we should set aside our disagreements for now."
If they kept fighting amongst themselves, would they not simply be letting outsiders benefit?
That was far too terrible a possibility.
Daiwa Scarlet nodded repeatedly, accepting the proposal for a temporary truce at once.
"Hm? Was there something wrong with my pronunciation? It should have been fine…" Halo Goodbye tilted her head in confusion and turned toward Xingyun Liuge for help.
Daiwa Scarlet immediately cut her off. She grabbed both of Halo Goodbye's hands and shook them enthusiastically up and down.
"Ah, of course, of course, I know who you are! You're Halo Goodbye-senpai, right? The incredibly amazing horse girl who won the Kentucky Oaks! I can't believe I'm meeting you here—this is such an honor!"
"I just… right! I was only slow to react. I never expected such an incredible senior like Halo Goodbye to speak Japanese… It was such a surprise!"
Daiwa Scarlet desperately tried to smooth over the awkwardness, steering the conversation away from Xingyun Liuge.
Halo Goodbye, meanwhile, wore an expression that clearly said, What on earth is this girl talking about? Hadn't they met many times in America already? Was speaking a little Japanese really enough to make her this excited?
If that was the case…
Would Xingyun Liuge be happy too?
Holding that tiny, fluttering hope in her heart, Halo Goodbye turned eagerly toward Xingyun Liuge.
"Xingyun, would it make you happy too?"
Daiwa Scarlet immediately stepped into her line of sight, trying to block her as much as possible, while inwardly crying out in despair.
It's over! She really is here for Lady Xingyun. What are we supposed to do now?!
Halo Goodbye was older than she was, and her race record was probably far better than that of someone like her who had not even debuted yet. Victory Colors probably was not much worse either.
The pressure was enormous.
If Xingyun Liuge ever wanted to pick a partner, would her first instinct not be to check their race records?
She could already picture the scene vividly: Xingyun Liuge seated on a sofa, one hand at her chin, asking with mild curiosity,
"So… how many GI titles does everyone have?"
Yes. A horse girl with an unimpressive record would obviously have no qualifications to horse around with Xingyun Liuge. Wasn't that only natural?
Actually, it really was not.
Xingyun Liuge was not some strength-obsessed fanatic. There was no way she judged people by the number of GI races they had won. There was no need for that.
Compared to such things, she cared far more about whether everyone had developed nicely. Even if she had preferences, they were preferences about physical appeal, not power levels.
Seeing Daiwa Scarlet grow sweatier and more flustered by the second, Xingyun Liuge decisively stepped in from behind and wrapped her in her arms.
Her long arms circled the girl's lush, graceful figure, sliding upward from her lower abdomen until they brushed that heavy, full softness.
Pressing her lips close to Daiwa Scarlet's ear, Xingyun Liuge said softly,
"Don't be nervous, Daiwa. Halo Goodbye and Victory Colors are both good people. They're my friends. You can talk to them without worry. And if you ever run into racing problems you can't figure out, they'll gladly teach you too."
"Do you understand?"
Understand?
Understand what?
Hearing Xingyun Liuge's words, Daiwa Scarlet felt as if a faint electric current had entered through her ear and shot straight into her brain with lightning speed.
At the same time, another strange current surged up from the base of her spine and raced upward. Her whole body tensed involuntarily, and even her tail went stiff as a rod.
She had almost let out a very dangerous sound.
Watching this, Agnes Tachyon covered her face helplessly.
Not because Daiwa Scarlet's reaction was slightly suggestive—
but because Xingyun Liuge had Daiwa Scarlet wrapped completely around her little finger.
Everyone knew that some of a horse girl's physiological reactions were the same as a human's.
For instance: their ears were extremely sensitive.
To speak in that soft, seductive voice from that close a distance—even if Xingyun Liuge herself had been on the receiving end, she would have curled her toes and gone limp all over, right?
At least in terms of messing with people's hearts, that move was devastating. It was the kind of thing that could reduce someone to tears and make them beg, Please, don't do that…
At a moment like this, should one say that Xingyun Liuge was frighteningly good at this sort of thing—or that she genuinely understood nothing at all?
Either way, Agnes Tachyon felt that this girl was sometimes incredibly, outrageously bad-hearted. That wicked little streak in her was practically overflowing.
But if anyone were to ask Xingyun Liuge directly, she would only put on an innocent look and reply,
"What are you talking about? I have absolutely no idea what you mean. Is that kind of thing really so amazing? I'm not very well read, so don't try to fool me, okay?"
Whether anyone else believed her or not, Xingyun Liuge certainly believed it herself.
