Seeing that Daiwa Scarlet was still hesitating, Agnes Tachyon decided to push harder.
She herself had no doubts left. She had already set her sights on Seiun Ryoka, and from here on out she intended to stay right on her tail and never let her get away. In her eyes, Scarlet simply had not faced reality yet, which was why she was still dragging her feet. And that would not do at all. What if Scarlet failed to wake up in time and ended up losing before she had even properly entered the race?
Tachyon had no desire to see her junior in tears.
So she turned smartly and decisively, all confidence and flair, even making a point of holding up the little bottle in her hand one more time where Scarlet could clearly see it.
Then, with light, easy steps, she walked over to the increasingly impatient Ryoka.
Scarlet's lips went pale as her gaze followed Tachyon naturally—and landed on Ryoka.
What she saw there stole her breath.
Ryoka's back was beautiful in the way only a powerful athlete's body could be beautiful. The line of her spine ran straight and clean down the center like a hidden stream, while the muscles around it spread wide and smooth beneath her skin, restrained for now, but obviously capable of explosive force when she moved. There was no crude display of strength there; it was all grace, structure, and latent power.
Even the skin itself seemed luminous, healthy, and impossibly smooth under the light.
Just imagining tracing those lines with her fingers was enough to leave Scarlet dry-mouthed.
And then, before her eyes, a pair of long, elegant hands appeared and settled on Ryoka's back without the slightest hesitation.
In that instant, Scarlet almost stopped breathing.
How could anyone touch something that precious so casually?
But she forced herself to calm down. The one doing it was Tachyon, her own senior, and Ryoka had allowed it. So technically, there was no problem.
Technically.
That did not stop her from staring with wide eyes and pressed lips.
Tachyon, of course, knew Scarlet well enough that she did not even need to turn around to guess her reaction. She deliberately angled herself just enough for Scarlet to catch the faintly playful look on her face.
Not all of it was an act. Tachyon really was admiring Ryoka's back.
Under the soft lighting, Ryoka's skin and muscle looked so warm and inviting that Tachyon briefly entertained the urge to wrap her arms around her from behind and press in closer. It was the perfect opening for a sneak attack.
In the end, though, she restrained herself. Scarlet was watching, after all. Going that far right out of the gate would be a bit much.
Still, the moment Tachyon's hands actually touched Ryoka, she could clearly feel the heat and the firmness beneath the skin. Her smile deepened immediately.
She started carefully, letting the warmth of her palms sink in, then gradually pressed and worked along the muscles of Ryoka's back, tracing their shape with her fingertips. The more she felt, the more tempting it became to escalate.
And just as that thought crossed her mind, a powerful force suddenly lifted her from under the arms and dragged her back.
Scarlet's voice rang out:
"Senpai, get up! Ryoka-senpai, hurry and move—this woman is clearly up to something!"
Tachyon froze.
Ryoka looked baffled.
And Scarlet, cheeks burning, eyes squeezed shut, held Tachyon in place with all the desperate righteousness of someone convinced she was saving her idol from disaster.
Tachyon stared at her junior in disbelief.
Ryoka looked even more confused.
